Magicopolis

A cool spot to check out, but probably for slightly older kids, and adult crowd. Despite having a good number of kids in their crowd, they seem to have a general script that they gear more towards adults. The jokes probably go over the heads of the toddler crowd, but probably works out fine as you get older.

I really liked it. :) The magic was light hearted and we got a few belly laughs in. He was quick witted and his wife was was a gas. Family friendly but still has a bar.

Went to the Sunday Matinée show… this was so much fun and a very unique outing. A fun all around afternoon. The magic isn’t flawless but they make it fun for everyone with lots of audience participation and a few big tricks. The grandparents loved it, the kids loved it and we had a great time. It seems to be a kind of family run show with a lot of cheesy jokes.
I also have to say that they were very nice to us after a mix up with the dates of our tickets that was entirely my fault. Good people and a good show… check it out!

Halloween was awesome here! Took the whole family to enjoy an evening of magic (we wanted to do something a little different with the kids this year). The whole family LOVED it! The kids were so amazed at all the magic tricks, and they even did a nice little private pre-​show magic performance, which involved the kids, in the lobby while my hubby and I were able to enjoy a few drinks from the bar.
I purchases tickets on Groupon. You need to call ahead to ensure your seats are all together (for groups), I paid $ 78 for 6 tickets.
I would suggest having dinner before the show. They do have a small concession stand with hot dogs, but nothing to filling.
All in all this was a perfect twist to our normal Halloween night, and we will definitely come back !

Really entertaining!

This is a fun place. I came here for a Burlesque show, which was really enjoyable. I purchased VIP tickets for earlier entry and a pick of seats, but really, the stadium seating arrangement gives every guest a good view. They serve wine and beer, standard stuff. I’d come back to check out the magic show.

Simply amazing! Just amazing. I have never been to a magic show in my life. And I wish I had. I came here and I’m still in awe.

Amazing show, great staff. You’ll see some magical stuff

I saw a burlesque show featuring the Dollface Dames here and it was a pretty nice little venue with maybe a couple hundred seats in the stage area, limited standing/​hangout space at the bar, and a completely inadequate (and absolutely filthy) bathroom.
Everyone on staff was fantastic from the friendly woman who checked our group in when the Eventbrite tickets we’d bought didn’t want to scan, to the card illusion pros behind the bar, to the performers and runners putting on a great show. I was tremendously entertained and it was a good time overall.
But I’m subtracting two stars because:
The bathroom really was awful (and smelled overpoweringly of urine even in the hallway).
The ventilation couldn’t keep up with the crowd — the show I saw was at 10pm and even then the bar area was stuffy, humid, and uncomfortable (though it was much cooler and drier in the auditorium).
And the alcohol selection left a lot to be desired.
Generally a good place to take in a show but it might be more comfortable (and less overwhelming) on a weekday night instead of a weekend.

Need a place for a unique birthday event? Got kids or older parents wanting to do something fun? Haven’t yet had your fill of ham or corn (because there’s plenty of it here…)? Magicopolis is the place for you. Rustic theatre? Check. Close up magic? Check. Fair price for entertainment value? Check! Yes, the jokes are old, but you’ll still laugh. The illusions aren’t «lions, tigers, and bears», but so what? You’re there to shut out the world for an hour and a half, be amazed by a team of compelling magicians, and re-​discover one’s inner desire to question everything. Had a great time this past Saturday and would consider a return trip when time permits. It’s not Vegas. It’s not the Magic Castle. It is, what it is — fun, corny, and old timey enough to warm the heart of even the most jaded soul today.

I purchased a Groupon Deal for Magicopolis and managed to get there before it expired! That’s a big deal for me. I’ve always loved magic shows and anytime I can see one, I will.
ABOUT MAGICOPOLIS: The magicians are are Steve Spill and his wife, Bozena. Steve has an extensive background with magic and performing. They’ve been at this theatre for over 18 years! Very impressive. Magicopolis itself, is a good old fashioned theatre. It’s nostalgic. There’s a small concession area where you can buy popcorn, candy or drinks. They do serve alcohol (wine and beer).
LOCATION: It’s located on 4^th in Santa Monica, facing the street. You can park at a nearby parking structure. Magicopolis doesn’t validate, F.Y.I., but that’s fine. Parking isn’t too expensive there.
THE SHOW: A few magic tricks are done in the concession area before the show starts. They were fun card tricks, etc.
The theatre is intimate. It can fit about 150 people. No filming.
The magic show is family friendly and interactive! It was great to get the crowd involved. We had a ball! It lasted about 2 hours, with a 10 – 15 minute intermission in between.
This isn’t an extravagant production like the ones in Las Vegas, for example. If you go in knowing that this is a good old fashioned Magic Show, you’ll have a good time.
Steve Spill has a book out about his life and experiences in magic called, «I lie for money.» We bought a copy and he made it out to us! Can’t wait to read it!

My boyfriend had gotten tickets from school to go see the show and honestly I wasn’t sure if I was gonna have fun but omg it was such a great show! It was So fun and hilarious! Steve is honestly so amazing at what he does and you can tell he loves what he does! The magic tricks were crazy and really mind f@&$ you lol. I honestly couldn’t tell how he did most of them. blame it on the alcohol! But honestly it’s a really fun show to go see with a couple friends or even take kids too! He really involves the crowd and makes it an amazing experience whether your into magic or not. Will defiantly come back soon!

I was given tickets to this show (thank you UCLA Volunteer Services!) but let me tell you, magic shows have always been one of my favorite things to watch. No, this isn’t a Vegas show, but it’s an old fashioned little place that makes you feel like you traveled back in time which I really enjoyed.
Steve the magician pretty much runs his whole show. When you walk in, he’s at the front entertaining the early crowd with some tricks while cracking jokes. When the time comes, he’s the one ushering you in lol. Then he introduces himself, and actually does some mind blowing tricks!
I’m no magic expert, just your regular gal and I freakin’ enjoyed the tricks and could not for the life of me figure out what was done although he did it right in front of me (I was in the front row). His partner Bozena was funny and entertaining throughout too. All I’m gonna say is the LEMON TRICK was definitely amazing! Sit in the front like me and you’ll get called on often to participate.
Now, if he just uses the same set of tricks each time I can see how this show can get old but I really hope he changes his tricks and acts often, because how else will you get returning customers?
Park in parking structure 5 literally next door, enjoy the restos around the promenade before or after! I think to enjoy the show, you have to set your expectations correctly, this is OLD SCHOOL magic show, not extravagant David Copperfield! I enjoyed the show and had a great night.

My boyfriend surprised me with tix to Magicopolis’ New Year’s Eve show. I’d heard of this place, but despite being a Santa Monica resident for 7 years, I’d never set foot inside. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but tried to keep an open mind.
In an alternate universe — one where I’d never been to the Magic Castle (3 – 4 times), for example, or on any other night but New Year’s Eve — perhaps I might have found the show here enjoyable. But unfortunately, my conclusion is that no discerning fan of magic could possibly be impressed with Magicopolis.
The main show is comprised of short magic sketches acted out by the two magician-​comedians (an Eastern European woman and her scruffy, hobo-​looking husband), who play different characters in each scenario before setting up the main magic trick.
These sketches may have been funny once, but are so dated now that they’re moldy. I’m talking Ricky Martin references, accompanied by «Livin’ La Vida Loca» (release year: 1999) as accent music. And the tricks were not particularly innovative or interesting, though maybe they would be to someone totally unfamiliar with «professional magic.»
And while it’s awesome that the show is «all ages,» that meant the humor was pretty juvenile, rather than sophisticated. It even verged on the inappropriate; some jokes contained really awkward sexual innuendo (there were plenty of kids at this New Year’s Eve show… creepy!)
As for the New Year’s Eve aspect: For $ 60 (the price of the NYE ticket), I would have expected more. Only canned soft drinks and crappy pizza were included in our ticket. (OK, we also got Martinelli’s and champagne at the stroke of midnight… but by then, many of the audience had already gotten up and left.)
I’m not sure how much a normal ticket to this place will cost you… but unless it’s dirt cheap and your expectations are suitably low, I wouldn’t bother.

Those were some of the jokes that were given to us during intermission, you know to keep the crowd entertained. Heh.
Anyway, I didn’t know this place exist until recently when I got invited to be part of the audience of Epic Meal Empire tv show taping (which will air on FYI network, towards the end of the year).

The magic.
The owners, Steve and Bozena did the magic show for us that night. You can tell that they are very skilled and know their magic tricks very well. I really enjoyed the tricks that they showed us, especially where one of the audience’s dollar dissappeared and ended up inside a lemon. I thought that was pretty cool!
And since the venue is small, you can actually see how the magicians do their tricks without any flaws. Simply mind blowing!
At the end of the taping, we were given a coupon to come back and see another magic show for another day.
Amazing experience and I will definitely be back.
Great for family night, date night, and maybe Unilocaler friends night? haha!

There is always so much excitement about a magic show. Magicopolis is located on 4^th Street close to the 3^rd street prominade. It’s a fairly old building and the inside of Magicopolis looks like it dates aback to the 1950’s.
Came here for a kid’s 8 year old birthday party. Two parties can be held here at the same time. The magic show was held in the main auditorium, which holds about 150 – 200 people. I want to give so much credit to the owners and actors in the magic show. But unfortunately, I was turned off because there were a *LOT* of inappropriate jokes made during the 8 year old birthday show. The main magician did a lot of adlib in his monologue, but making jokes about gay men (while reading the inscription inside a straight man’s ring when he used it as a prop) or «feeling my breast» or «testicles» was a real turn off for the parents and adults in the room. Inappropriate. I agree that many of the jokes were not understood by the majority of the 8 year olds who were here for a KIDS birthday party.
I would suggest to management that they should have an adult’s version and a kid’s version of the show. The magicians try very hard to provide a great show.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a ‘Living Social’ deal for Magicopolis and after reading the reviews on Unilocal I purchased a couple of tickets. The show starts at 8:00pm but the doors open at 7:00pm. At 7:00pm people gather in the bar and watch the bartender do magic tricks. My girlfriend and I are not drinkers so we skipped this portion of the show. We arrived at Magicopolis at 7:50pm for the showing at 8:00pm and had no problems cashing in our ‘Living Social’ voucher for actual tickets.
After you have received your ticket you gather in a waiting area and wait to be called into the theater. Once you are called into the theater it is first come, first serve seating. If you want to be part of the show sit in the middle and close to the stage and you can guarantee you will be part of the show. I am not going to give away any of the show here in the review but if you really want to be part of the show and want to impress your date make sure you have a $ 100 dollar bill in your pocket, you will thank me later.
The Magicopolis Theater is not big and it is not small, it is the perfect size for an amazing magic show, 150 seats to be exact. The magic show itself it amazing, Magician Steve and Magician Boneza put on an amazing show. They both feed off of each other very well. I truly found Magician Steve to be quite witty and he made me laugh out loud a couple of times during the show.
The magic itself was pretty mind blowing. You are sitting on top of these magicians as they pull these amazing tricks and at the end of the trick you are simply mind blown on how they did what they just did. This isn’t Vegas with smoke and mirrors this is right there in front of your eyes, close enough for you to reach out and touch them and the magicians and still able to pull off all the tricks without a flaw or hiccup.
The show is broken down in two 45 minute segments with a 15 minute intermission in between.
Magicopolis offers several shows but if you are an adult I suggest you attend the Friday or Saturday night show at 8:00pm and you will guarantee you will hear a little adult humor as well as a more adult themed act (I was told this by the Magicopolis staff hen I made my reservation). If you have children you might want to call ahead and see what time the children orientated shows are performed. I would say any show is good for family members but one tends to be better than the other.
If you are looking for a local magic show with a great deal of history behind it give this place a shot. You simply cannot beat the current deal on ‘Living Social’ to see this show, two tickets for $ 34, that is cheaper than going to the movies these days will supporting a local business like Magicopolis. You will not be disappointed.
I have seen the Penn & Teller, The Amazing Johnathan and several magic shows in Las Vegas where I paid well over $ 100 a ticket and left a little disappointed but not at this show. I would of easily of paid a lot more than I did for Magicopolis than I did.
I think chances are high that I would come back and see this show again. My GF and I had a blast, TY Magician Steve and Magician Boneza=)
