Be very careful as you may never get your personal items back! So very unprofessional and disappointing after many years of being a loyal customer. What happened to these guys? I’ll tell you: The Store was sold and new ownership took over several years ago. The new owners are simply clueless as to customer service, goodwill, timely delivery on promised work, organization and more. I purchased my razor from the original owners and continued to service it with the new owners. OK, no problem replacing a no-​brainer blade, however, where the problem begins is when I asked if they could sharpen 2 of my scissors while waiting there. They said I should leave them and within a couple of days I would get a call when ready. OK, again no problem. Well I never received a call from them and had to replace and purchase 2 new ones as I had to take a trip and just could not wait for their call as promised. Almost 3 months later I get a call they are ready!!! Huh? I returned the call and stated my frustration as they did NOT follow up and follow through on their 2 day delivery back to me pledge. I stated there are two ways to go: 1) Throw them out as I had replaced them. 2) I would pick them up but there would need to be NO charge for the inconvenience. The response, I’ll have to think about it.” So, you simply cannot trust this place and the lack of professionalism for 2 lousy scissors is a symptom of a larger problem.

My husband went into this store to get a shaver. Initially he wanted to get the Panasonic and called the online store. He found they didn’t know their products he had asked about two different shavers and they didn’t know the difference so we decided to go to Larry’s and are we glad we did. He was extremely knowledgeable and carried several brands. He told us that some of the Panasonic was made in China which immediately turned him off to that brand. He did let my husband who has very sensitive skin test several of the shavers and the Braun was the best fit. He went over the pros and cons with each shaver that my husband tried. He took over an hour with my husband. For repairs and when a replacement is needed we definitely will go back.

Good service on changing batteries

My trusty Braun 8995 Shaver finally had an issue — the trimmer broke. Larry’s spent a day replacing the trimmer, cleaning the shaver and it was returned like new. Great service.

It’s nice to have a specialized shop for sharp tools in Santa Monica. They did a good job sharpening my two Japanese kitchen knives to a shaving sharp level, for a reasonable price. They also have a fairly nice pocket knife collection which are again reasonably priced. Going back shortly to get a new electric razor.

If it has a blade these guys have it, straight razors to butcher knives. The young man raven is real professional and guides you through your purchase, I was really pleased with my experience here and although I don’t often purchase knives or blades I would not consider getting them anywhere else.

Good selection of items. Safety razors are hard to find in stores so need to order online and wait. Prices are reasonable compared to Art of Shaving.

A great variety of merchandise, and great although a bit overwhelming customer service, i. e attention. I would have liked to peruse the razors, stands and brushes without some asking me questions and suggesting one item or another, I did not care what aftershave Kennedy or Washington used.
That said I likes the family business vibe, father, mother and very knowledgable if not «creative» son. Smiles, attentiveness and and great service are a plus.
In the end I purchased a stand and razors. The price was $ 10 more than Amazon, but I expect that in a brick and mortar. And for me nothing beats hands in before dropping a few $$. And my favorite part is that the shop is not a franchise.

Raymond (or Ramon) was super duper helpful. I walked in and told him my purpose. I was looking to start off my bf into wet shaving and all the information i had was from online ppl and YouTube videos, but i had questions!
he showed me the array of razors, brushes, creams and he was very patient and knowledgeable. the purpose of their business is to sell, obviously, but he wasn’t pushing anything on me. I walked out with a really nice butterfly razor, a mixed badger hair brush, and the rose scented shaving cream ($ 142).
if i ever have to go back for any reason i’ll deff come back here.
i told my coworker about my gift idea and she said she might do the same for her hubby– well, she now has a place to go.

This is a cool little shop, I’ve found it harder and harder to come across good places in Los Angeles for Men’s Shaving supplies. Larry’s has a nice selection of Germany Merkur double edged razors for all you into traditional wetshaving. Multi-​blade cartridge razors are not the way to go. They also have some nice brushes, soaps, and razor blades. Everything you need for a smooth shave. I came in here for the japanese Feather blades, and some Astras. The prices are fair and the staff is friendly, I’ll look forward to coming back.
This shop also does knife sharpening, I can’t speak on that aspect of the business but the blades they had on display looked mighty sharp.
P. S. Unilocal can you please make a Shaving Supply category, this doesn’t fall into the cosmetics and beauty supply section, help help.

I like to support local spots and went in to buy a new electric shaver because my old one crapped out and it came from Larry’s. The staff is helpful and nice so I dropped $ 280 on a new shaver. Go home, get on Amazon and it’s $ 149. I’m all about supporting local business but honestly I feel duped and probably won’t shop at Larry’s again.

Great service! I have a 16 year old Benchmade military grade pocket knife that was brought back to life. I have used it for work for years and was always reluctant to get it sharpened. These guys not only made it look brand new for minimal cost, they gave tips on how to keep it looking new. I drove 15 miles to see these guys and will definitely go back. Thank you!

Sharpening knives is supposedly easy — until you try to do half the job these guys do. Inexpensive and sharper than I’ve ever been able to achieve on my own.

If you want to kick the lame/​weak plastic razor habit then this is the place you need to visit. I got a double edge razor and about two months worth of blades for $ 28 or so.
The shop is not much in the way of thrills, but who cares? You’re here for the steel! They had some other trinkets like pocket knives and watches, and they sharpen blades.
I believe it has been a family business since its inception, which is always a bonus. For me anyway.
The parking on Wilshire tends to suck, but if you go around the block there’s some street parking to be had.
So, simple shop, good customer service, hard to find shaving items and a friendly staff.

I brought in a set of knives and Larry sharpened them for a really reasonable price. He makes a point of having them ready for you by the next day and wraps them in paper for easy transport.
The knives were insanely sharp when he was done with them. Seriously, use caution when handling a Larry-​sharpened blade!
I definitely recommend using this shop. Great price, great service, fast turn around.

These guys are great. They not only sharpened my entire set of knives in a couple of hours, but took the time to show me how to work the steel. I would highly recommend this shop.

I’m reviewing Larry’s Shaver Shop because to me they are the example of the valuable, rare small neighborhood store: friendly, knowledgeable, they seem to care so much about what they sell, and the relationship with the customer is often more important than the final sale. They guide you through their products until you find the right one for you, no matter if you end up spending $ 100 or $ 10
I want to support these small Santa Monica stores by reviewing them when I can. These are not easy times for them, but what a loss if they disappear… they rely on our business — and give a lot in return.

I brought in a factory sharpened, hand made carbon steel Samurai sword for further sharpening after receiving a quote of $ 15 – 20.00 over the phone.
Not a bad deal for 27 inches of cold steel, says I.
I don’t know where it was sent off to, but I dropped it off on a Friday and it was ready by Tuesday of the following week.
The blade was definitely sharper, not the «drop a silk ribbon on the blade and cut it in two» sharp I was hoping for, but carbon steel is VERY difficult to sharpen, and I can assure you that if I was looking for a painless way to remove an arm or a foot, Larry’s Shaver Shop has made it possible.
My blade is incredibly sharp, and it cost me a total of $ 25.00-less than a dollar per inch. Awesome Possum.

I went in for an electric razor and the helpful staff member (owner?) helped me get just that. He was knowledgeable about his products and gave me useful advice. Best of all, he didn’t try to sell me on the newest, flashiest device, but the one that he said was, in his opinion, the best for the money. I’m pretty sure they also do repairs. In addition to shavers, they sell samurai swords, which clearly makes them deserving of a five star review.
