Tennis Channel Pro, Dial Jones is a licensed business owner for 19 years in Santa Monica and a USPTA Expert level tennis professional. With over 25 years teaching experience Dial Jones has taught thousands of all ages and levels from beginner to professional, the sport of a lifetime. A pro for The Tennis Channel and a member of the Babolat advisory staff, Dial’s technical expertise as well as his love for the game shines through every student he teaches. The Ocean View Tennis facility located at beautiful Santa Monica beach has 6 tennis courts, two backboards and basketball court.

I am a former college tennis player. I met Dial Jones ten years ago and he helped me clean up my fundamentals. Now he coaches my kids. I’ve been around tennis for thirty years and every time I am on the court with Dial I learn something from him. Some technical insight. Patience. How to inspire kids. As a player, his technique is world-​class, just rock solid pro-​caliber ball-​striking, which is always reassuring in a coach. But it’s Dial’s communication skills and commitment to his students’ development that sets him apart from the rest. For kids, the sessions are focused but fun with lots of games and excitement. For adults, you are one-​on-​one with a master professional who ably demystifies the technical stuff that can make tennis intimidating sometimes. Give Dial a call and see for yourself why so many players of all ages and abilities seek him out for private instruction. I can’t think of anyone, really any other coach in Los Angeles, who brings more knowledge, experience and genuine passion to the game.

Having trained at the best tennis academies in the world as a kid for many years, I can say that Dial’s instruction is top shelf. He is the best instructor I’ve ever had. He has been excellent at correcting habits that I had from playing many years of tennis that went uncorrected by others. I’ve known Dial for 15 years now, and have had nothing but the best experience, and my game improves dramatically with each lesson. He is patient, extremely intuitive and uses his understanding to track and help me correct mental patterns that were limiting my game. He also keeps us with this ever evolving game and helped me re-​tool my strokes and play smarter tennis, which keeps the game enjoyable and an endlessly fun challenge.
I can’t say enough about how helpful our sessions have been. It’s rare and special experience to train and get coaching from someone as gifted as Dial. He is not to be missed if you love tennis no matter your level of play.

First time taking tennis lessons and have to say Dial is an awesome instructor. Super focused on technique, which is great when learning the fundamentals. He’s definitely patient and encouraging.
I would recommend private lessons with Dial if you’re an über beginner like me or even someone that’s been playing for a while and want a refresher.
Enjoyed the first round of lessons so much that I’ve already signed up for another set. The game is fun as well as a great workout.
I have improved with every lesson and feel like Dial is only setting me up for success! I can’t wait to join my friends tennis league come the new year!

Dial is the man. I was a beginner and he has done an incredible job showing me the ropes and quickly becoming a competent player. He’s an incredible teacher, showing ways to change your technique in a digestible/​understanding way. Not to mention he’s just a very nice guy who truly wants to get to know you and have you reach your goals. He isn’t cheap but he’s worth it. And if it’s hard to schedule an appointment to suit your schedule there’s a reason for it – he’s that good.

As a complete beginner, I first played tennis as a student with Dial in 2001 for a year once a week. He’s such a great tennis instructor and taught me so much in a short amount of time. Nice, professional, very friendly, funny, cute, and very patient. I always looked forward to my lessons and consider that time a lot of fun. By the end of the year, I could play with other students of his that he would set me up with, who were at the same level as myself. He plays in Santa Monica right across from the beach so you can go bike or play on the beach right afterward… can’t beat that! I recently saw him again for an hour to play, having not played in 13 years, and in a matter of minutes he had me hitting back and forth as if the years had never passed. I highly recommend him if you want to learn how to play quickly and have a lot of fun doing it as you advance your skills.

I started playing tennis just a year ago. During that time I have taken lessons from a number of great instructors, but Dial is without a doubt the best instructor I have ever had. He focuses on the skills that are going to have the biggest impact on your game. Prior to meeting Dial I had gotten advice on serving from so many sources that I was simply befuddled. Dial simplified it all for me and taught me two simple exercises for practice that worked wonders for my consistency. We are working on topspin because Dial explained to me that I would have much more control on my groundstrokes, and also because a lot of club players at my level don’t have heavy topspin which should give me a big advantage in matches. He is also patient, kind and encouraging. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

My husband decided to get me some tennis lessons so we would be more evenly matched when we play together. I Have played on and off throughout my life but never had a formal lesson. As I discovered I was doing everything wrong to my surprise.
Frustrated at first… learning tennis essentially all over again, I was surprised at how well I progressed. I By the third lesson I was playing better than I had every played before. I attribute it all to his teaching skills. He is patient, consistent and persistent, along with being a super nice guy. I truly feel that I could not have had a better instructor!
Dial is top notch! If you are looking for a lesson at any level Dial is your guy!!!

I am hesitant to write Unilocal reviews in general because I have mixed feelings about it, however I feel like this is in order since I found Dial through Unilocal and couldn’t be happier with my experience.
My almost 6 year old son is now on his 4th lesson with Dial, and I never thought he could be so excited about a sport. Ever week when we leave the court, he asks me «when do I get to come back?».
I’m shocked at how much my kid has learned in such short period of time… and while having so much fun.
Dial is honestly the most patient instructor I’ve seen and I feel lucky to have found him. So much so, that I have now scheduled a lesson for myself.
I look forward to seeing my son’s continued improvement every week, and hope that Dial doesn’t ever get to busy for our erratic schedules.
I recommend Dial Jones Highly!

Dial has an easy going manner when teaching. It makes for a nice, fun and relaxing lesson while improving on the fundamentals of the game. I can tell in my short time with him, my game has improved and will continue to improve with his coaching. I also bring my 3.5 year old son with me for a joint lesson, which is fun for my son too. Dial has a great way with kids. I would highly recommend lessons with Dial.

I’ve been taking my son to Dial for lessons for a few months and believe we couldn’t have found a better tennis instructor. My son loves Dial and his lessons with Dial! It’s amazing to watch a 5 year old boy learn, stay attentive, and have fun for an hour!
Dial is extremely patient and balances seriousness (so the kids actually learn their strokes and form) with silliness (so they don’t get frustrated and can have a few good laughs). My son has many different music, art, and sports lessons, and he consistently says his favorite is tennis.
Dial’s prices are very reasonable, too. I researched 5 recommended instructors and found Dial to be the best instructor and for a good price.

Well, what can I add that hasn’t already been said? The reviews here say it all; in a nutshell, Dial is amazing and I feel lucky to have found him. From our first initial email contact, through the 5 or 6 lessons I’ve had with him, he’s been everything I’ve wanted in an instructor — fun, knowledgeable, encouraging, insightful, patient, professional, considerate, and more.
I’ve learned so much in just a few lessons, and Dial does an excellent job not only verbally explaining the techniques, but also with utilizing drills and hitting that bring the techniques to life and help my body incorporate them.
In sum, if you’re looking to improve your game, learn tennis, and have a great time while doing that, stop looking and give Dial a call!

I hesitate to write this review ONLY because I am afraid of Dial getting too busy to accommodate my erratic scheduling.
However it’s only fair since I found Dial through Unilocal to join the chorus of his 5 star reviews. If you are searching for a tennis pro on the West Side of LA, then stop searching now. Regardless of your level of experience, Dial is your guy.
Of the dozens of tennis pros I have taken lessons with since I first leaned to play at age 5, Dial is easily the best. He is enthusiastic, fun, professional, flexible, a natural teacher, and extremely intuitive about how to diagnose and correct each individual.
I have been extremely impressed in taking joint lessons with my wife over the past several months how Dial coaches each of us using distinct instructions and mechanics thoughtfully tailored to our individual strengths and weaknesses. And he does that without slowing the pace of the lessons.
The beachfront court that Dial teaches from is an ideal location that can’t be beat by most any tennis facility in the country.
Dial is also very efficient and accommodating in scheduling sessions via phone or email.
Really nothing negative to say about Dial — I understand why some of his clients drive all the way from Hollywood to Santa Monica to work with him!

Dial is an awesome tennis coach and I say this with some good experience.
He’s technically gifted, smart, funny, punctual, encouraging and an overall great guy!
Being about a 4.0 player, I asked Dial to work on my match game and mental toughness and consistency and after 3 months or so, my game has improved so much.
I hit with Dial once a week and play with a great group of guys two other nights a week and on Sunday. Last night I played one of the best matches of my life against the guys, thanks to Dial. The texts say «amazing come back; awesome…», all thanks to his help.
I recommend all level of players consider his talented approach to the game. Fundamentals are so important in tennis and Dial know them to a tee!

Dial is simply the best! He has been our mentor our teacher and our friend for many years. He is a total pro and is always up on new techniques. Whether he is coaching our 5 year old son, or me or my husband, every minute of a lesson with Dial is fun, inspiring, challenging and practical. Where to begin? I took several months worth of lessons from Dial, and I saw my game improve significantly during that time. He’s patient, professional, thorough, and does an excellent job of balancing verbal instruction with actual hitting. I was thrilled with way Coach Dial is handling his tennis lessons. My eight year son was happy after first class and he couldn’t wait to see him next time.
He is extremely patients, able to coach all in details and keep my young son focus for whole class. Most important off all, now he likes Tennis as sport and start to practice more seriously and trying to be more competitive.

I was lucky enough to meet Dial by chance on a stroll to the beach in 1999, took a lesson and have been his student and friend ever since.
No matter what level or injury I’m nursing Dial always finds a way to get me back into the game. The courts he is coaching at always have a ocean breeze and are meticulously maintained. He also introduced me to other
people that play at my level so I can practice what I have learned in the session. I can also recommend the group lessons to get back into the swing of things. Good fun, good people and a great workout.
