the candy is very fresh and the variety is very good. Yes it’s little pricey but when you compare it to Godiva Chocolates it is about the same price but twice as good because of the freshness. My husband loves the sea salt and Creamy Peanut Butter Bars as well as something with pinions. He is super picky about chocolate and for him to love this place says a lot. Every time I visit Santa Fe I stop in to get a few pieces. It’s well worth it.

The smell. The smell! You walk in and it hits you like a truck. Smell therapy. *sigh*
But you want to know about the chocolate. I am so sad my budget limited me to four pieces. The prices are high, but the quality is higher. You won’t find your typical chocolatier fare here. There was no sea foam here, not a turtle to be found. There were a few standard pieces, like caramel and almond bark, but that’s about it.
What they do have is highly unusual and incredibly delicious. I (painfully only) chose dipped caramel with sea salt, a cherry cluster, a pomegranate fig bar (which was a square chocolate filled with flavored ganache), and the Don Juan Pecan (which I had to get after staring at a picture of it on a flyer all through lunch).
I was initially disappointed that the pomegranate fig bar was so much chocolate and only fruit essence, instead of actual fruit, but it was the right balance of flavors in the end. I would recommend it.
The cherry cluster was perfectly chewy and just the right amount of sweet and tangy, finished with the bitterness and subtle sweetness of dark chocolate. Addictive with a capital «A.»
The caramel was smooth, creamy, and delicious, just as a really good caramel should be, and I love sea salt on my caramels.
The Don Juan Pecan was gone way too soon, despite being fairly large. (Truthfully, they were all larger pieces than I’ve seen in other shops.) It was reminiscent of pecan pie, but not as sweet. The slight bitterness of the chocolate blended perfectly with the caramel, and the crunch of the pecans inside was surprising and delightful. I would venture to say this is their signature piece.
Overall, my recommendation is to visit this shop if ever you get the chance and order whatever sparks your interest. The people are nice, the atmosphere is dreamy, and the candies can’t be matched. I only wish I lived in the same state!

Yikes! Frightingly Good chocolates. In the cold cabinet, the top shelf round dark chocolates are without equal in Santa Fe. I have been eating these chocolates for 2 years now. Nothing else comes close, in my opinion. Unbelievable fresh. ChocolateSmith adds new concoctions all the time. Latest, are Nonpareils. You will never be able to eat another type of Nonpareil, after these.

Okay chocolate.
Pistacio dark chocolate is good with a tiny spicy kick.
Dark chocolate poppyseed was good. A bit thick but the dried cranberries made it so tastey.
Dark choclate mint thin was really good too had to have been my favorite. Presentation was so-​so and the girl working the counter seemed to be done with her day.
Wouldn’t make an effort to go back.

It is the best chocolate I have ever had. We went on the way out of Santa Fe. I am so glad we did. I the P B and C the best (peanut butter and chili), but everything is out of this world.

Take a deep breath as you walk in! Oh My Goodness! Dark chocolate heaven! We each tried something different: I had the chocolate almond round, my husband the ginger soaked in sake round (!), my daughter had the lemon lavender white chocolate bark (very complex on the tongue) and my son (not a dark chocolate fan) had the one milk chocolate product in the house. I think he liked it because it disappeared in a few silent seconds.

I love this place. It’s my favorite gourmet chocolate shop in Santa Fe, with the caveat that my needs and desires as a local who just wants to pick up delicious chocolate may be different than tourists on the «Chocolate Trail.» If you want to be accosted with a saleperson air, really have a hankering for sipping chocolates, or want to lounge in a place with a somewhat pretentious air (and tour guides bringing people in :/​) and don’t require parking because you’re walking from the Plaza, then by all means Kakawa is your best bet (the sipping chocolate *is* pretty darn tasty). However, if, like me, you just want some tasty chocolate, and you don’t need a place to sit because you live in town or are just passing by, then I would recommend ChocolateSmith. My service has always been very friendly, and I appreciate that the staff don’t pounce on me like they’re keen to make a commission, and it’s refreshing to know that the people who help with your chocolate purchases actually help with making the chocolate and are therefore knowledgeable about it, so it doesn’t bother me that it might take ~30 seconds longer for someone to ring up my purchases because he/​she has to stop making chocolate!

The chocolate is flavorful, fresh, and smooth. I often drop by on Wednesdays after picking up comics (basically next door) to buy a treat for myself or others. I absolutely LOVE the ***dark-​chocolate-​covered sake-​soaked fresh ginger***, and I often buy dark chocolate, sea salt bark. Unlike at other chocolate shops in town, I’ve never had any chocolate here that tasted chalky or like it was old. Also the staff has always been friendly and knowledgeable (once again, unlike at some other chocolate shops in Santa Fe). It’s definitely a little pricey, but heck, it’s a gourmet chocolate shop, and it’s in Santa Fe.

I came here after being convinced Kakawa (also in Santa Fe) was the best chocolate I have ever tasted. A friend disagreed and recommended I try this as well. I had the dark chocolate hazelnut salt bark which was delicious but not choco-​gasmic or anything.
The customer service and feel of the place also paled in comparison to Kakawa. It seemed like there was only one person working and making chocolate.
Maybe I just got spoiled at Kakawa and my experience might have been different had this been the first on my (albeit half assed) Santa Fe chocolate trail.

Walk in and you know you’re in for a treat! Smells like chocolate heaven. Just wish it were more affordable.

Great tasting, fresh unique creations. Loved the plain chocolate covered caramel — best rich and deeply flavored one I’ve had for years. Baaed on a brief chat with the owner, the butteriness was indeed from butter and lots of dairy product.
The white chocolate lemon lavender bark, which my friend bought, was a delight to the palate. Their chocolates are (at the time of writing) $ 31/​lb. (which is more than I’d usually spend), but these are superb creations whose combinations, inventiveness, and depth of flavor surpass some of the more well known corporate chocolate manufacturers (such as Godiva).
One difficulty was finding the place while driving. There’s a sign faces the road straight on, but it’s not visible. They do have an awning, but it’s plain and says nothing. it would be helpful if the name were on it both straight on and on the side facing oncoming traffic.

Holy cacao this place is amazing! Went Friday afternoon during our weekend getaway to SF and it was so delicious, we had to come back Saturday night. Skip dessert at the restaurant and just come here (although they close at 530 pm). They charge by the lb ($ 31/​lb?) and can get expensive. We ended up getting about 8 different things over the two trips and everything was excellent.
They usually have a few samples sitting out and the friendly, helpful staff will let you try anything you want. All of the chocolate is extremely high quality and best of all, local. We bought a few things as gifts and I know if we ever return to SF, my wife will drag me back here.

The ChocolateSMith has many unique & sweet creations, but I really loved their chocolate barks. I bought the green chili chocolate bark and the red chili chocolate bark to have a mini «taste test». In my opinion, they are both good, but the red chili pairs with chocolate a little better. Also, I highly recommend getting one or two of their sunset orange pâté’ truffles. It is described as, «firm ganache infused with orange, chipotle chili & cinnamon. Enrobed in Dark Chocolate. Smokey, mild spice.» IF you are ever anywhere near Santa Fe, definitely check out this chocolate place!

I was passing through Santa Fe to eat at Bobcat’s Bite but got there a little early-​before it opened. So I decided to kill some time and found this place.
I got pretty excited as I really love dark chocolate and this place has gotten great reviews here on Unilocal.
I walked in and the people who worked here are really friendly. Got really excited when I saw all sorts of dark chocolate mixed with stuff I’ve never even seen before. A few selections of hot chili with the dark chocolate. This got me really excited as I’ve had melted hot dark chocolate in a cup with a shot of chili and the spices really bring out the flavor in dark chocolate. So why not just mix it in the chocolate?
In all honesty I ordered several things and don’t remember all that I ordered and in the July weather, the chocolate started to melt a bit outside. But I chowed down. I was a little underwhelmed. I was expecting an orgasmic explosion of great flavors and strong dark chocolate to hit my palette but didn’t really get it. I’m not sure why. The pistachio nut mixed in just didn’t do it for me. I think maybe it might have been because of the quality of the pistachio nut? Could have been just me that day but I can’t seem to agree with everyone else who’s Unilocaled this place. I just felt like I’ve had so much better tasting chocolate in many other places. I think I’d go back just to see if my first visit was an anomaly but if it’s a repeat performance, I wouldn’t come back and pay really high prices for just «ok» chocolate.

I was really curious about their famous Chocolate Pates… it was really good! Basically a nicely flavored ganache in wax — what a concept. The richness was actually perfect. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it as a treat.
They also make some other chocolate treats (bark, «drops», truffles and small «bars»). They have samples available when you walk in, so try it out to get an idea of what their chocolate tastes like.
They also sell the hard-​to-​find Guittard Drinking Chocolate so I got some of that as well!

My girlfriend is a dark chocolate fiend, a junkie really. Fortunately for me, The ChocolateSmith is only a few blocks away, so I can get her fix quickly before she turns into Choczilla.
This place is awesome!

I am allergic to chocolate.
But everyone else I know loves it– so I go to the ChocolateSmith in Santa Fe. The patron waiting area of the shop is kinda small and generally has several people in it so you’ll have to wait. There are ways around this: LOTS of businesses in Santa Fe carry items from the ChocolateSmith. The Co-​Op has the gift tins and I’ve seen their cute little treats at Chocolate Maven around Easter time.
If you want a custom filled tin, you’ll need to go to the shop, but it’ll be worth it when you are able to give the perfect gift to the chocolate lover in your life.

Though slightly out of the way for a visitor to Santa Fe, this little gem is so totally worth the extra effort. My grandmother (a bona fide chocaholic) and I recently spent a couple of days in Santa Fe and a friend recommended we stop in to the ChocolateSmith for some sweet treats. Holy cow. We spent nearly half an hour in this sweetly decorated little shop, owned by an adorable husband and wife team. The air is heavy with the aroma of top quality dark chocolate, and I swear, the decadence of it practically drips from the walls. If I could just bottle that fragrance… divine!
Be sure to try their caramels with sea salt, Don Juan Pecan chocolates and their delicious blend of chili and dark chocolate. Cue those angels singing… seriously. They even have a really unique chocolate pâté, offered in a number of cute shapes, dipped in colored wax — perfect for shipping! Very tasty, too.
We went a bit crazy… we spent over $ 100 and bought all kinds of chocolate and even a few unique gifts that went over really well at Christmas. Worth every penny! Take a look at their website — even if you can’t get to Santa Fe, you can have some of their deelish treats sent right to your home.
