loved exploring this vast expanse of goodness. different vendors have booths, and some are clearly MUCH better than others and carry more authentic goods while others are obviously selling imported, very fake turquoise that wouldn’t fool a 5-​year-​old. you can find some great items and good deals if you keep looking. reminded me of shopping in Mexican markets, which I loved! great selection of textiles from many vendors, so make sure you look around and compare prices and quality!

This is such an interesting store. There are SO many things to look at, crafts, accessories, some local grocery items, garden décor, pottery, ornaments, furniture… the list goes on and on. We stopped here for nothing in particular, but ended up buying some pottery, seasoning, and souvenirs. I could imagine that people end up staying here for a really long time looking at everything. This place has a lot of «personality». I don’t have a better word for it, but definitely very intriguing. If you stop in, prepare to look at hundreds of things! It’s impossible to rush through this store. As an added bonus… there was a super cute and lazy cat sleeping in the store! :)

It was just okay. Lots of outdoor garden objects like statues, rocks, and ceramic pots. There also was a glass blowing area which I admit, it was pretty rad to watch this guy wielding a big hot stick around before I got distracted by brightly colored glass pumpkins of the shelf. There was nothing that I found in any of the areas that I felt was worth buying. If you’re looking for better arts & crafts, it’s definitely worth hitting up the art market on Sundays instead.

4 stars as this place is fun to bring kids (they have prarie dogs) and out of town guests who are looking to purchase a piece of Santa Fe style. Be warned it’s quite over priced in my opinion. Typically you can find similar pieces elsewhere for much less.

I’m very particular about my outdoor décor I wanted a metal sun sculpture and have been searching for about a year for the right one. Most places are insanely priced but not here! This place is huge with lots of independent vendors, seemed like everyone had a sale going too! Found the perfect outdoor décor and then some! Even returned later for a crystal for a dear friend!

Jackalope is just FUN!!! I’ve gotten some lovely, colorful round 100% cotton tablecloths there as well as wonderful 100% cotton shorts with tops from Mexico, long 100% cotton yoga pants from Guatemala, and, for my husband, truly beautiful 100% cotton Guatemalan wedding shirts. Great place to get beautiful 100% cotton voile dresses & pants from India.

Jackalope is my favorite place to stop and buy some goods from New Mexico when I come home to visit. There is so much to see and so many different little shops that make up the whole market.
We were helped by the nicest lady in the furniture building, which only added to our great experience. Also, they have powdered green chile, which is pretty tough to find.
Do yourself a favor and swing in here to see what they have.
The «Prairie Dog Village» is a funny little thing to see too.

Broad array of furnishings, blown glass, décor and rugs sprawling the campus on which numerous buildings are located. Specialty is Southwestern, of course, but African and European goods are available too. Helpful staff, plenty of parking.

Wow, Jackalope is not what it used to be. We hadn’t been here since 2005, when we moved away from Santa Fe. They used to have the most amazingly gorgeous furniture imported from India. Not any more. It’s nowhere near the beautifully painted pieces we had bought previously. I’m so disappointed. I think the recession must have been hard on their business. There are still a lot of interesting things to buy, but I was sad to not be able to buy a few more pieces of furniture.

There’s a guy named Nathan located on the far left near the very front of the entrance, currently. He mines stones from all over the country himself (maybe beyond) and made my experience at Jackalope better than I anticipated.
He stopped me as I walked in and immediately showed me this pretty purple stone. I have purple hair; that was why I’m sure, but when he told me what it was and what its benefits were, I instantly knew it was perfect for me. Gel Lithium Silica, known for its calming, stress relieving, stabilizing, negative reducing effects. Like I said, it was perfect. I got to hand pick my stone, as they all have their differences, and watched as he cut it, shaped it into my shape of preference, which was a heart, smoothed it down, shined it, wrapped sterling silver around it, and made it into a necklace. I was so impressed!
I’m not a big necklace person at all, but I know I’ll be wearing this every single day. This stone in particular is great for meditation as well, and all in all balances your emotions and strengthens the heart. I have it resting on my heart all day and under my pillow at night and truly believe in the power of these healing crystals.
Basically, go see Nathan at Jackalope and potentially get your own custom made necklace or ring or whatever you desire out of a variety of different stones and crystals: D

Good way to waste some time. Lots of different shops of local artists. Not a lot of items I’d actually buy, partly that it’s not my style, not to mention some of the items are incredibly pricey. Still, I like to hit this place every time I’m in town.

If you can’t find something at Jackalope to satisfy your southwestern décor needs, you’re probably not looking hard enough. This place is like a Disney World for southwestern décor buffs. There are several buildings containing pottery, garden stuff, furniture and rugs.
It didn’t bother me that most of the stuff was made out of this country. I found a very nice Mexican Zapotec Indian rug to hang on my wall at home.
I agree with the other reviewers about the stuffy people working here. I was shuffling through the rugs and one elderly lady employee clearly was annoyed with my activity. I was doing a neat job of it, but her panties were getting into a bunch anyway. However she quickly became my best friend when she learned I was buying one.
I only wish I could have fit more stuff into my luggage…

Some nice looking things, but nothing is made locally (except for a Rack of greeting cards). I love imports from Indonesia as much as the next person, but … Looks like a new artisan market pavilion is opening up soon, though (memorial wkend 2013)

Jackalope is a MUST fun stop, when you are in Santa Fe.
Can something be both eclectic and cool? I think so, and Jackalope is!
You see, Jackalope is basically a gardening store. That is, everything you ever wanted to buy for your garden, furniture, table & chairs, wind chimes, clay pots; everything including a life sized Day of the Dead Bride (see photos). We wouldn’t go there.
There must be over several acres of things to find, look at and I haven’t even mentioned prairie dogs…
Did I say eclectic? If we lived in Santa Fe we would be several hundred dollars poorer!
Go! Enjoy! You’ll be amazed!

My realtor suggested I check out Jackalope for furniture and pots for my new place in SF. Upon entering the deserted furniture area, tape measure in hand, I was unable to find a trash receptacle for my empty paper cup. After a considerable walk around the store, (and ladies room) I gave up and placed it on a dresser.
Suddenly the absent «saleslady» appeared and began yelling at another customer about the «lazy, rude, stupid PEOPLE who put cups on things»! I asked her WHERE I was supposed to put it, and she pointed out a tiny powder room trash can behind the cash REGISTER desk!
She never apologized or asked me how she could assist me with any furniture, but remained very emotional and upset until I left the building. (?) The poor janitor was afraid, but he bravely jumped into the fray and offered that he had removed the trash can from the restroom to clean it … but that fact didn’t appease the creature.
As a Southerner, I understand that folks from NewJersey and that area have a different culture, and I have compassion that they need jobs in Santa Fe, but lets get real. As a nurse, I’d suggest both Estrogen replacement therapy and Zoloft. As a business owner, I’d suggest immediate termination, no second chances for this one.

Those that are giving this place any less than four stars, must have a screw loose in the head or something. Jackalope is fantastic, and the staff are GREAT! As is the kitty that plops on the counter. Every time I go in, I find something new and exotic. A wonderful place for gifts to send to family that do not live here. Great place to bring family and friends visiting from out of town.
In the winter, it can be kind of dead, the prairie dogs are hibernating, and most everything is inside. But STILL worth the trip.
During the spring/​summer and fall, the whole entire facility is open and booming with activity. On the weekends you can find artists working hard, glass blowers, gardeners, belly dancers, live music, roasted corn, tacos, hamburgers, and horchata and other Aquas Frescas.
Bring the kids to see the prairie dogs, and the petting zoo, koi fish and peacocks.
I LOVE Jackalope, with ALL of my heart.

«Jack-​a-​dope» — that’s the moniker I’ve hung on this place. I’ve lived in Santa Fe for nearly 25 years and I cringe every time my SO wants to go here and I have to go along. This time, it was for furniture. The prices are so outrageous as to be ludicrous.
We ended up buying a mesquite table on Old Las Vegas Highway (just north of Old Pecos Trail… check it out) for $ 85. The SAME THING at this hole would have been $ 250.
Avoid at all costs. Pun intended.

Are you in Santa Fe for a weekend and want to be sure you buy gifts for people back home? This is the place for you, my friend.
It’s huge and even right on a road heading out of town.
It is chock full of touristy New Mexicana with a healthy amount of ethnic basketry and mass produced folk art from around the world. This sounds flip but it’s entirely true.
Occasionally it has special sale events though that are hard to define. One time I went here for a prison folk art sale. No joke it was a sale of artwork made by prisoners at the maximum security prison outside of town. Weird as it sounds it was actually pretty charming with handmade paper beads, folded paper artwork, and lots of Lady of Guadalupes. The proceeds went to building a nicer prisoner visitor center for the families
There’s the famous Prarie Dog Village which is always a fun scene. It’s basically a big walled pit with adorable prarie dogs scampering around. Be VERY careful to keep the kids out of crawling over the wall though — the fleas on the dogs usually carry the bubonic plague.
For the residents it’s not a bad place to furnish your house in the Mexican-​New Mexican style and a great source of outdoor pot planters and a respectable plant nursery.
Usually a great place for some afternoon fun.

This place just goes on and on and on…
Can I just go live in the house in the back with all the great landscaping? That would be greeeaaaat.
Yeah, I didn’t actually find all the tchotchke amazingness here that I thought I would. And I don’t know if they downsized the prairie dog habitat, but ya’ll– that is just a weird ring of dirt with some pretty common pests living in it… anywho.
Some weird overpriced stuff for sure.
Probably worth the drive down Cerrillos when there isn’t so much construction.

Jackalope, you’re the best. If I had more room in my Hyundai Elantra, I would have easily taken more things home with me.
In the past few years I have visited all of the Jackalope stores in the New Mexico area, and the on in Santa Fe by far is the greatest. I happened to be at this location on Sunday, so some vendors were set up at an outdoor flea market located on the premises.
Jackalope will carry your run of the mill tourist things made in Peru, and India, but they also carry some folk art goodies made in Mexico, and the local area. There is one vendor at Jackalope who makes the most simple pieces out of clay, which usually incorporate calla lilys, and my Mom in the past had bought me a piece as a wedding gift, well, to my surprise when I visited on Sunday, the lady who made my piece was actually there making some more pieces, and greeting customers and actually gave me a free small piece she was working on. How can you NOT love that?
It made me happy to see that not everything in Jackalope was bought and imported in, and they were still support the locals artists, and enthusiasts.
If you’re a fan of Day of the Dead, or Dia los muertos merchandise, then CHECK THIS PLACE OUT, and they should satisfy any wants, or needs cheaply.
