Inn and Spa at Loretto

This place might have been good years ago but not today. The rooms are very cold in the winter, the bathrooms are outdated. The food was good at the restaurant and the wine list is amazing but everything is over priced. We were disappointed the entire time.

This place is greatly located and we LOVED the entertainment in the bar. Rooms are nice and the front door staff is prompt. If you want an after dinner cocktail place, I would definitely spend my money on the surrounding bars. This has the worst service I’ve experienced. It appeared if you were «someone» to be seen then you had their undivided attention. I don’t show up in my furs, leather, and bravado but I know how to treat people that are willing to pay prices and tip accordingly and go above and beyond for great service. I was in the service industry long enough to know that money doesn’t equal class. I’m appalled by the ass sniffing. Note to staff: don’t judge a book by it’s cover, just because it appears people have money doesn’t mean they’re going to treat you right. If they’re flagging 50 and 100 in front of you go for it but don’t forget to give us lowly folks a glance.

I saw some bad reviews before we arrived, so I was a little worried This hotel did not disappoint! The entire staff was so wonderful — pleasant and helpful! Our room was very comfortable with a beautiful view of the Loretto Chapel. The beds and pillows were nice as well. The only thing that I agreed with on the bad reviews was the wi-​fi signal was weak and very, very slow. I was disappointed in their ‘stay two nights, get one free’ package though. The room rates were set at one special rate (around $ 250), but when you get the package, they hike the rates up to almost $ 350/​night to give you the free rate (they said their standard rate). They also charge a $ 30 resort fee, $ 21 for parking and $ 15 for room cleaning. It still came out a few dollars less than if I paid for three nights. But I wanted this Christmas trip to be special for my daughters and I, and the hotel helped us make it so.

After a 2200 mile drive cross country, we expected our stay in Santa Fe to be a highlight. Instead our stay at the Loretto was a stressful low light of the trip. Because I am moving cross country, my car was packed with things I wasn’t comfortable shipping including checkbooks, passport, personal papers, etc. When I made the reservation I was reassured we would the able to work something special out to keep my car secure. Instead the manager was completely inflexible about letting me keep my car keys after the car was parked or doing anything to accommodate the special circumstances. (I moved my car offsite and went through each box to remove the most critical items before turning the car into their valet — it was necessary under the circumstances but not a pleasant, welcoming experience.)
The elegant leather bound directory in the room includes a note from the manager inviting you to ‘Please enjoy your time in Santa Fe and don’t hesitate to call on any one of us should you need anything at all as we look forward to welcoming you here again and again’ — after my experience, this promise lands as empty marketing. I rarely write a negative online review but the contrast between the marketing hype and my experience left me wanting others to be aware of the gap between the Loretto’s promises and the reality of their service delivery.
In this day and age of gracious hospitality, the «suck it up» attitude I received was a shock. I hope others reading this will find a more gracious welcome wherever you choose to go.

Great location and service, however the interior (halls and rooms) is a bit shabby. Could use some updating for sure.
The bartender at the hotel bar (Alyc) was phenomenal. Friendly and very skilled at mixing cocktails based off of our likes and dislikes. We had a great time trying his drinks and chatting with him. I’d highly recommend stopping by the bar when he’s working!

This review is long over due, and for our stay back in June! My boyfriend booked a romantic «staycation» like we do a few times throughout the year. Instead of driving to Taos or Albuquerque we decided to stay in our own back yard.
First of all the staff at check in was not very friendly and took FOREVER to check in.
We got nickeled and dimed for every little thing such as resort fee etc etc etc…
Our room was not really that nice, seemed a little dated compared to other SF hotels we stayed at such as La Fonda and Eldorado to name a couple. We complained to the front desk, and they supposedly spoke to the manager about a credit or some way to make up for it and we were denied and not even contacted by the general manager as we were told we would get a call back. It seems as if he/​she only has time to respond to publicized criticism of the property.
Our room had a nice view, of the parking lot and service area lol. Did not get our own private balcony, took the romance right out of romantic.
Very disappointed they treat locals like this, maybe because we were not vacationing from back east. Next time I stay on the plaza I will probably do La Fonda as I have had nothing but good times there, as well as them having an eager and friendly staff.

I was shocked by the lack of service and care offered by the staff from the manager down. I have a lot of patience and tolerance but witnessed more than once shocking responses to people checking in etc. After being there once I would not stay there if they offered me a week long vacation. Make sure not to book a wedding or any special event. That is the reason we were there and I would have figured that things would be close to perfect. Wow, was I disappointed at the rudeness my friends were treated including the father of the bride. One highlight was watching the pool guy cleaning the pool while the outdoor wedding was right next to the ceremony. No kidding. You can’t make that up. Make your stay in Santa Fe somewhere else.

don’t do it. I attended a wedding and the front desk was rude to the father of the groom. He was paying for 300 guests and they lost his reservation and refused to find him a room. Rooms were small and overpriced. In fact, so many hidden charges I thought it was an airline, not a hotel. I mean charging a tip on the mini-​bar? Come on… $ 15.00 for a bag of M and M’s. Small bag. Asked for extra pillows and 3 hours and another phone call later they arrived. I see another review for a wedding that went well. I guess it’s ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ cause i sat next to a woman who was served a piece of cake that was actually a plate of crumbs. Literally crumbs. Pool was being cleaned during the actual ceremony, so many pictures have the pool cleaner. Just not much attention to detail or service, just making $$$$.
Much of the conversation was, «what did they do to you?» Service was really bad, and I travel alot.

5 star experience all the way. Location cannot be beat. walk everything. Your in the heart of all the action, plaza, restaurants etc. but the specific location itself is peaceful & quiet. Loretto Chapel is literally a 45 second walk. Gorgeous room, super comfortable beds, Staff was out of this world. Caren at front desk is amazing, kind professional accommodating & a super nice gal. Also Mark & Devon at front desk are both outstanding. Valet Anthony & Damian super fast efficient upbeat happy guys. Previously I would stay at the Eldorado but no more. From now on it’s the Inn & Spa at Loretto.

Elegant hotel very close to the plaza. The junior suites are spacious but are basically have the same furniture and amenities as the king suite. The beds are extremely soft. Very comfortable for me but avoid if you like harder beds. The hotel charges a $ 15 amenity fee each day, bottom line use the pool. The bar has competent mixologists and the jalapeño margarita is not to be take lightly. The Resturant is wonderful; get the Reuben sandwich for lunch. Overall, this hotel is a good option in Santa Fe. It’s a bit expensive but is comparable with other hotels in the area.

I was here for a rather large party, so I can’t rate the spa or the hotel rooms. I do want to tell you about the party, though!
It was in a couple of rooms off the lobby. Plenty of tables, both low and high, plenty of open space to walk around. There was a nice sized dance floor and a very good DJ. What made him particularly good was that he managed to have the volume at exactly the right level for listening and conversation. How many times have you had to scream over the music? Not here.
They had servers with trays of hors-d’oeuvre, like grilled bacon wrapped chicken and raspberry tartlets, just wandering around. At the entrance there was a server with a tray of prickly pear margaritas, very nice. The open bar had just about everything I could ask for. Since we were a lot of people, they set up the buffet stations in several places. That way there was never a long line or a mob scene. There was also a separate station with a roasted turkey. Did I mention the chocolate fountain? Yes, well, I had to loosen my belt a bit, but it was worth it for all the fresh banana and strawberries and rice krispie treats held under a shower of warm, flowing chocolate. I loved the grilled vegetables, and the taco station was the bomb — pastor, asada, mariscos — with pico de gallo and sour cream and cilantro, the works. Lots of salad and pasta. The food was all outstanding, prepared well and served fresh.
The staff were pitch perfect. Friendly, not too familiar. There when you need them, not hovering when you don’t. I enjoyed talking with the guy who was carving the turkey and hearing about how the employees get to enjoy the spa amenities. I like a place that treats its people right. And at the end of the evening, when it was clear I had lost my valet ticket, those awesome gentlemen in the parking lot didn’t miss a beat. Got me my car and made sure it was mine without making a big fuss.
If I was going to have a big party, a wedding, a special event, I would definitely book it here. Great job!

I was fortunate enough to stay here for a symposium in June 2015. Because of that I’m unable to comment about any resort or additional fees. The Inn at Loretto is phenomenal! I checked in around 1:00 in the afternoon and was given a room on the second floor. I had a king suite which consisted of a king bed, two leather chairs, and a leather couch. Room was a nice size.
Wireless was complimentary thanks to the workshop as well. It moved pretty fast and had no issues. Bathroom was a nice size. Closet was behind the sink and toilet was in with the shower. No water pressure issues and towels were fine. Bed was SUPER comfortable, but the pillows were ok.
Hotel is in wonderful proximity to the Plaza, a market, restaurants, as well as places to go hiking. I can’t gush enough about the inn at Loretto. All the food I had compliments of Loretto as well as the wonderful customer service I highly recommend the Inn at Loretto. I didn’t use the pool but it looked nice. Well done and keep up the good work!

Stayed just 2 nights for a conference. Lovely place. Wonderful customer service at the front desk — especially Kayla.
The room was spacious with an incredible balcony overlooking a beautiful chapel. There was an impressive selection of shops on the property, and within a 3-​block radius. I was able to find some lovely (not made in China) souvenirs within the last 15 minutes of my stay.
The meals served at the conference were all good — and everyone enjoyed being able to eat outdoors as an option. I would definitely return.

We had Thanksgiving buffet here and it was the best decision ever! It’s close to everything and you will not be disappointed!
(Side note: I would have rated it 5 stars, but I think they need to update the bedding)

This review is for the spa***
Check-​in for a 20% off spa coupon! Great help since services are pricey. I arrived early, hoping to catch a last minute manicure, but no luck. Was told to sit in the lobby couch until the therapist was ready for me which was strange since other spas have locker rooms or other services, not here. My massage room was really nice with bath and shower. I chose the 50 min medicinal massage with spirit aromatherapy and a 30 min house-​made desert sage scrub add-​on with Rachel. It is a bit overpriced, but my massage and scrub were among the best experiences I’ve had. Parking for spa patrons is free, but finding the spa is a little tricky, receptionist desk is around a corner so you have to look around.

I’m a local girl and was in search of place to spend an anniversary evening. I made reservations well in advance, and was treated very well by the reservation crew on the phone. They helped me get signed up for their loyalty program, which saved me 30%! They also suggested appropriate packages. When I made the reservation, I had done my homework and asked for the Love Loretto package, which included a $ 50 credit to be used in house, and two Loretto chapel tickets. This is a regular room, just with the added perk. I was told they had only one room left and that I could have the upgraded room for the lower price. I told them it was my anniversary and they were excellent and referring me to the concierge to help make any further arrangements for our trip. Upon arrival, the valet was very nice, pleasant and welcomed us. The front desk staff was absolutely amazing, as soon as we checked in they wished us a happy anniversary and then said they would send us up a bottle of champagne for the room! Thanks Gabe Gallegos! We were so pleased and happy to get a nice perk! We went up to the room, which featured a kiva and a balcony. So fun! The bathroom was beautiful and everything was in its place, clean and tidy. Soon enough the champagne arrived and was even more delighted to find it was Gruet. A card accompanied it with a note from the night crew at the desk. Awesome guys!
We had a wonderful time, even spent a little time in the lounge, where there was live music playing. Come to find out there was 3 weddings on site that Saturday! The lounge was packed. Sadly, it needed more cocktail waitresses and most people looked pretty neglected, especially after two drinks we spent $ 30.
When we checked out we asked to leave our luggage since we would spend time looking around Santa Fe past checkout time. There was no problem with this. I asked the woman at the counter how we use our $ 50 credit. She had no idea what I was talking about, didn’t even know the names of packages and then looked into our reservation. She informed me that I didn’t book that package and if I did it would have cost a lot more money. Then she said, «we already upgraded your room for your anniversary.» I told her, It was because there were no other rooms available. She said, «well they did it for your anniversary» like I was some sort of cheapskate just trying to get more stuff. Then she says, «happy anniversary by the way.» Yea thanks.
Then she called the reservation people. Mind you this has now taken up quite a few minutes, there are people waiting behind me and she’s arguing with me, making me furious. And as much as she deserved for me to go off on her, I didn’t. I would have just ruined even more the awesome time we were having. The reservation dept didn’t help her, because she gets off the phone and says, «no. you didn’t book that package.» Now, tell me how hard is it to just satisfy this customer standing in front of you and just give me the $ 50 credit, that I was going to use at Luminaria for breakfast?! on this property?! Does she somehow feel that it’s her money I’m trying to take out of her wallet?! Because I’m pretty sure there was a mistake made here and I just want what I had booked. I paid $ 350 for the room. What’s $ 50? Nothing!
Nope. No accommodations. I asked her, «well can I have the two tickets to the Loretto chapel at least?» She reaches in the drawer right below her and hands them over. Rude! The way she handled the customers was rude, uninviting, not accommodating whatsoever and just plain snotty. Any good that was done by any other staff member was out the door because of this rude woman.
I may not be a tourist, but I am much more than that, because I’m local. And you should treat your locals better than the tourists that you probably won’t see again.
My question remains, how hard is it to make someone happy with a measly little $ 50 credit?! Instead of arguing with me and searching for ways to prove me wrong, why not satisfy a customer? Poorly done Loretto. Bad move.

My wife and I booked three nights here for our anniversary in August 2014. Overall it was an «ok» experience. I travel a lot and stay in a significant amount of hotels across the Country and this was just ok.
I felt for the $ 300+ a night rate it was way over priced for this hotel and experience. The lobby was nice and the bar area as well, however the rooms were small, the towels were old, the grout in the tile of the shower needed a good scrub down and the lighting was poor. The TV in the room may have been one of the first flat screens ever produced.
The staff was not overly helpful and as a matter of fact we waiting 10 minutes to check in because they couldn’t get the front desk staff organized. One of the three valet guys were nice and actually tried earning a tip the others carried frowns and couldn’t saying anything other then «What’s your valet number?»
One area that was very upsetting was that we had to share our balcony and table with another room next door. What a romantic morning to enjoy a cup of coffee with a few strangers in their robes.
Most likely next time I am in Santa Fe I will be trying another hotel. I may pay a bit more but for the experience it will be money well spent.

My experience at the Inn and Spa at the Loretto was great, even though I didn’t even go inside! The two men at the valet station were so sweet and friendly. I am a photographer and I brought my clients to the front of the property to take some photos and the valet men were welcoming and made us laugh with their clever comments.
