I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I offer breastfeeding help in the comfort of your home.

History

Established in 2009.

I have been an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) since 1997. The IBCLC designation is the gold standard in lactation.

While I enjoyed my hospital practice I truly love being able to meet and help families in their home. Seeing moms and babies in their natural environment can help us work together to prevent or work through any issues that may come up.

During a postpartum visit I will take a complete medical history for you and your baby. I bring my baby scale so we can do a weigh-feed-weigh as needed. First visits are usually 1.5 to 2 hours long.

Breastfeeding should be a wonderful part of your life with your child. As you are learning both to breastfeed and mother this amazing baby you deserve any help and guidance you need.

At my new baby’s 4 day check up my pediatrician told me my baby had lost too much weight, was a «bad nurser», and was dehydrated. According to the pediatrician I needed to give the baby formula to fix the problem. I knew this advice felt wrong but being a new mom is terrifying and I didn’t want to go against what the doctor had said. I went to see Janet the next day in tears, she looked at my round, pink baby and told me to listen to my instincts. My baby was healthy and she just needed more time to gain her weight back; she was right! We went back to the doctor a few days later for a weight check which she passed by a long shot with absolutely no formula! Janet is not only incredibly knowledgable but also loving, encouraging and empowering to new moms looking for support during the scariest time in life! I will continue to recommend her for moms on the journey through infant feeding.

When my son was three weeks old I was told by his pediatrician that his weight LOSS was nothing to be worried about. Having doubts, I sought help from Dominican’s Breastfeeding Support Group. Janet Hoover validated my belief that the information I had gotten was questionable and that I should seek a second opinion. She recommended me to a pediatrician specializing in women with lactation issues and low milk supply, which changed my life, my son’s life, and our relationship with each other at such an important time.
Because of Janet’s guidance and support I was able to successfully nurse my son until he was just shy of two years old. I could not have asked for someone with more compassion and expertise when it comes to this life-changing and life-giving practice. Thank you, Janet, for all you did for Leo and I. Janet has been a huge help to me on my breastfeeding journey. I have struggled with an oversupply of milk (yes it can be problematic to have too much milk) and Janet helped me figure out how to adjust my milk supply in order to help make breastfeeding successful for me. She is patient and really listens to your needs. Janet also helped me find better positions to nurse my son in and helped make sure he had a good latch.
