History

Established in 1980.

We are a small home business established in 1980. Chris Haltom, the owner was asked this question often, «Why Wood, Why Floors ?»

Chris says, «My dad was a woodworker for 40 years. Where I grew up, there was always a wood shop, saws and tools turning raw wood into finished products. My dad started taking me out onjobs when I was 10 years old.»

Realizing he had a knack for detailing floors and stairs, Chris gravitated towards fine finish.

«Most floors are simple, straightforward, serviceable parts of the home, but you can customizea floor and make it into a work of art. That’s my favorite thing to do.

Everyone who works for me, both my crew and my estimators, have a great deal of confidence because of their experience, and because they really know our products.

All our estimators have previously been installers and they know how the machines work. They are all certified floor mechanics, by the product manufacturers, the National Wood Flooring.

My incredible workers are like a family to me. Together we have completed over 18,000 floors since 1980 and I am proud of the company we have built. I have been working with alot of these guys over 10 years and some as long as 17. Over the years we have developed a procedure that provides showroom quality work in your home. To ensure each and every one of my clients receive the highest level of service possible I guarantee my work. We go the extra mile by tailor fitting each crew to each job based on their specific area of exptertise. Our goal is to provide our clients with a floor they wake up to every morning and love. We always stay local and have helped such charities as Grey Bears, Habitat for Humanity, Assisted Living Program etc. etc. by donating thousands of square feet of material, the crews to install it and the gas to get them there. We are proud of each and every job we complete and we are proud of providing you with the beautiful floor you deserve.

— Refinished the maple floors downstairs
— Refinished the maple floors upstairs. This job required some finish carpentry. They replaced the baseboard in the kitchen and milled custom maple corner caps on site.
— Refinished the stair rails, which were originally finished with laquer
They did a great job every time. On time, attention to detail, clear communication, and beautiful results.

I manage a house with 5 disabled adults, some of whom are in wheelchairs, so the floors take a beating. We recently contacted Chris Haltom and asked for a bid to re-​carpet a bedroom and hallway. Chris came out promptly. We talked and he invited me to come to the showroom and pick out carpeting. I did so, and within 2 weeks our beautiful new carpeting was installed! The installers worked quickly and did a very professional job. The BEST part of the experience, was that Chris refused payment for the carpeting and installation! He chose to donate both the carpet and the labor because we’re a non-​profit organization and he knows we operate on a shoestring. I know he has helped others also. What a big heart he and Doris have! A big thumbs up for showing great compassion for the disabled in our community, as well as operating a very professional business. Thank you Chris and Doris!!!

Chris Haltom Floors: The very BEST in every way. Our original floors were installed by Chris Haltom Floors. Years later, they returned to resurface. Everyone I encountered — Doris, Juan Jose and all of the crew were absolutely excellent. They are all just great.

Chris Haltom Floors refinished the wood floors that were installed in our house in 1947. They came out fantastic. The crew was great. It took them 4 days to do the whole job. They showed up when I was told they would, worked hard and the floors look amazing. Could not have been a better experience. Highly recommended.

Chris Haltom Floors did a professional job with American red oak on all floors (except the two bathrooms (tile) and living room (which they carpeted)).The two main installers of the hardwood worked very hard and well as a team, and when I had questions, they were happy to explain. The foreman stopped by from time to time and, in general, kept in touch, which I appreciated. I especially like the way they finished the two-​step transition from dining area to TV room… they widened the lower step to accommodate the size of a man’s shoe, making it safer, and then stained the edges of the two steps darker, for additional visibility. They also did a fine job planning the direction of the planks as they transitioned from one area to another. A couple of months later, after my husband and I noticed squeaking underneath the master bedroom and the carpeted living room, they came right over to take a look, then promptly sent the same team back to go underneath the house and install the concrete piers which were lacking from the original construction. Chris Haltom Floors gave us outstanding service!

My experience with Chris Haltom Floors was spectacular. Every person I worked with was professional, had extensive knowledge of the types of flooring options, respected my home and my budget, and was very pleasant in these interactions. The crew led by Juan Jose was on time and worked each day more than ten hours to assure completion was on schedule. The entire team worked with great care, with a goal of wanting to exceed my expectations, which they did. My flooring is stunning. From choosing the hardwood flooring to the carpeting, to even the vent coverings, each step of the way was managed brilliantly through to clean up. I am delighted with the results and highly recommend them!

To be fair, the work was done before Unilocal was around. Also a construction service is only as good as their crew. But management should be accountable when there are issues. I found Chris Haltom to be unaccountable.
Initially, I just wanted a wooden floor put in the entry. Haltom convinced me that it would be better to also refinish our living /​dining room area about 15 X 38ft area. I could tell the sander did not know what they were doing. They gouged the floors to the point that there was a 1/​8″ gap between baseboard and floor. But the worst was the finish that bubbled. In tears, I had to convince Tucker Hardwood Floor (who originally put in the living room but were to busy to do a small job) to fix the mess.
With the exception of a final payment of a few hundred dollars, Haltom was paid. The few thousand dollars cost was double. All Haltom could do was apologize — no partial refund.

I’m starting this with two stars in the hopes that Haltom Floors will do the right thing and I can move it to 5. We purchased a home in late 2012 and the entire downstairs had been redone with a floating floor by Haltom Floors two years prior. The floors were beautiful and looked well installed. Then the summer months hit and things warmed up, they began to CRACKLE & POP. Not a creak, but literally EVERY step cracked and made a terrible noise. I found out from the prior homeowner that Haltom had done the install, so I called them out. Chris walked into the house, heard the noise (which is everywhere you walk) and said, «Wow, this is terrible. To me it seams like a total failure of the product.» It shouldn’t do this. I mentioned that it had been installed on top of the old tile, but he didn’t think it was an installation issue, but rather a glue failure at the seems. He was going to check into the manufacturer and see what could be done. He later called and said that unfortunately the warranty from the manufacturer does not transfer to a new owner, so there’s nothing he can do. REALLY? Nothing you can do? You have no leverage and relationship with your supplier to push back and get it resolved? To me, it seemed like a supreme copout and not a way to do business in a competitive world where word of mouth and reputation carry a lot of weight. I had let this issue go for a while, but recently was talking to a builder/​realtor in town who couldn’t believe the story and thought it wasn’t right. Maybe Unilocal with move them off the fence (or at the minimum call back)

I wasn’t sure what I wanted in the master bedroom. My contractor said I should contact Chris Haltom Floors and they would help me out… he recommended I take a look at cork flooring… after 2 seconds with Juan-​Jose, he directed me to some samples, suggested a few and in another second I had my pick. we set a date, they arrived, measured and I had a quote within a few minutes. we made a date for teardown of carpet and installation, and in two days, I had a beautiful cork floor that marveled it’s big brother hardwood, and looks beautiful… I have a quote for another room, and may just do the whole house. cork is warm, soft on the feet and really reasonable… thanks so much Juan Jose and Chris Haltom Floors.

Doris, Chris, and Juan Jose are true professionals and the kind of people you want to give your local business to. We had our old, stained carpet in the upstairs of our condo replaced with a high-​quality laminate recommended by them and it looks absolutely beautiful a full year later! The work crew was timely and efficient and Doris was a joy to work with. Subsequently, three other neighbors in our complex have all used Chris Haltom for their floors and are very happy with the results as well.

We’ve used Chris Haltom once before to refinish the floors throughout our house and thought they were spectacular.
So we had them come back to tear out carpet in the addition on our house (it turned out there were layers and layers of funky linoleum under there, which was-​awesome).
As expected the crew showed up (on time every day) and did another fantastic job. The hardwood floors they installed look just amazing, they are finished perfectly, and match the existing floors in the rest of the house exactly. They left no mess, are always friendly, and their office staff is a pleasure to work with. We will certainly be using them again — would highly recommend!

This is the second floor we have had Chris Haltom install for us. This time it was Marmoleum for the kitchen. The crew was terrific. They were thoughtful about how to run the seam, polite, fast, and very competent. They cleaned up completely. We also have hardwood floors throughout the house which were installed by Chris’s crews. They are beautifully done. When we have had small problems come up (our dog scratched up one section), they came in and did a lovely job of fixing the problem.

After installing our wood floor, they took all of the extra wood away without asking us if we wanted it. It took 3 calls to get a response and then they brought back a few one foot scraps, which are unusable if we ever need to replace a section of floor. This was very expensive flooring. There was much more of our leftover wood which they never returned. Also, the installer glued a threshold strip to the floor (without asking) so now we’re going to have a problem removing it when we replace the floor that’s adjacent to that threshold — which they knew we were going to do.
ADDED COMMENTS
Subsequently, the owner came to our home and removed the threshold strip and the glue. The newly installed floor adjacent to this edge meets it cleanly and we are pleased with the result. I have upgraded my review rating.

We are very happy with the refinishing work Chris Haltom Floors did for us. In our case we refinished 3 rooms worth of mixed species oak flooring, 4 sets of stairs, and replaced the damaged risers on all of those same stairs. They also put in flush wood heat vents and replaced a few damaged boards that some contractor should probably never have installed 20+ years ago. The resulting work is beautiful.
Chris and his staff can talk you through all the options — wood, engineered, laminate, vinyl, and carpet — and they are honest with their concerns and opinions. If they think you should make some other choice, they will suggest it and tell you why. They are highly competent, friendly, fast, and efficient.
Highly recommended, and we will be bringing them back in the near future to redo our downstairs flooring completely as well.
