Rita’s Italian Ice

Very friendly and patient staff. There are so many flavors to choose from. They will let you try as many flavors as you want so you can find the perfect one for your taste buds. Melon Italian Ice was so refreshing!

This place sounded great, custard and shaved ice! That combines two of my favorite things! I was really looking forward to the custard and ice combo but left pretty disappointed. The custard tasted pretty plain and kind of foamy, it didn’t have that smooth and creamy texture I love that custard usually has. The ice was also just okay, it was more like slush than any other shaved ice I’ve ever had and the flavors didn’t stand out. Customer service was good but I don’t plan on coming back. Nothing terrible but just not for me, and their custard can’t compete with Caliche’s.

Local in my neighborhood so easy and quick to get to, although many times I would drive many miles for this quality frozen custard and ice.

You can’t beat the mango Italian ice at Ritas especially in the Santa Clarita heat.
I’m sorry they stopped serving their pretzels though.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. More than anything, the freshly made frozen custard they have here is absolutely to die for. It’s crazy delicious, freshly made every day and oh so smooth and creamy. It’s the perfect place for a summer treat or a quick dessert to grab on your way back to work. My favorite is the Mango shaved ice topped with fresh strawberry frozen custard. I was absolutely stuffed from lunch the first time I visited Rita’s, and I still managed to eat my entire Gelati because I couldn’t stand to waste any of it.
The shop itself is lovely, warm and welcoming and the staff is very helpful when you’re standing there absolutely confused over what combination to get (I think I sampled three shaved ices and three frozen custards/​yogurts before making my decision). There’s a few tables to sit at and enjoy your frozen treats, but my guess is most people take it to go.
Can’t wait to go back!

Their ice cream is very good and I actually wasn’t disappointed that they did not have custard. I wish they had a Rita’s in the Bay Area.

Really yummy! I’ve tried a lot of the flavors and most don’t hit the spot, so I go back for the same thing every time which is the mango gelati.
I didn’t see any high chairs when I went in the other day with my 9 month old, so I ended up just getting my ice cream to go *sad face*
A lot of comments below complain about it being defined as «yogurt» or «custard.» Just ask for a sample and that will set it straight — unless you really want a history lesson about yogurt deriving from Bulgaria and it originally being called sour cream, and compare it to the egg-​based difference of custard — then hoot and holler all you want.
Prices are fair.
I wish the parking and location were better but it’s still close to my house all the same.

We absolutely LOVE Rita’s!!! I can’t believe we ever lived without it. Great to cool off or just as a fun treat, but also great for events. We had them come out and do our son’s 2 yr old birthday last August and it was the biggest hit ever with our guests! Working with the owner was a dream (as we decided to add this last minute).
They couldn’t have been easier or more pleasant to work with and the entire process was a breeze. The owner was extremely sweet, and the employee who came out to serve the ice & custard at our party was so amazing. We’ll be using them again for future parties!

The walked my wife and daughter and I through everything as it was our first time and we had such a great experience we are looking forward to our next visit. The explained how all the product is made fresh every morning. Yum!
We had the mango and vanilla, cotton candy and vanilla and the root beer and vanilla. First 2 were at the suggestion on Lauren and all 3 were soo delicious.

Rita’s is so good!
During my first visit, I tried their mango ice with vanilla custard, and it was perfection. I’m not a huge dessert person, but I think I could eat Rita’s everyday :)
the green tea and lemon ice are very tasty as well. Can’t wait to come back!

Same great quality and taste to the custard and the ice. mango is my favorite flavor. The establishment was pristine as usual. We will be back again.

Wow I have been sleeping on this place for quite some time now
My boyfriend decided one night he wanted to take me out to a romantic date, which he called a surprise. A «romantic» date for him was going to a card shop so he could drool over Yu-​Gi-​Oh and then there happened to be this place next door. –_​_​– this is why I do the planning. He’s cute though he tries XD

I have never heard of frozen custard or even tried it. I was born and raised on the west coast so I have no idea what they do in philly, but I guess they do have this gem.
I’m guessing this is some kind of chain which is ok, but it’s the only one by me. We went in right before closing and the gal still welcomed us in and got us what we wanted, even with a smile. She was really sweet and nice. I got like strawberry ice and chocolate frozen custard. I like frozen ice, but I really think next time I will just get a bowl of custard.
Holy moly the custard is so good xD I’ll definitely recommend it to everyone I know.

Things to improve: I wish I could’ve had a little more product knowledge, Idk how I feel about ice and custard touching but I think it ws fine over all.

I love the custard and enjoyed going in but after seeing I believe one of the owners (Taren) putting a teen employing into tears in front of customers and other employees I will not go back. As a small business owner in SCV one would think of a better way to get there point across. Very bad business skills and I don’t think the EDD would approve either.

You are mistaken, myself and my other daughter were sitting having custard. Also, with this being done in front of other employees just made more of a problem due to other employees joking about it at school the next day. Again I will stress the the employment development department does not look lightly to mistreating employees. I have spoke to several teens that have worked there and they all say the same thing. SCV is a very small town. News tends to travel quickly.

Rita ice custard is for me is a toss up. If you want thickness in your dessert, this might work for you. I went for the sundae with two toppings –nuts and chocolate chips. Abundant of it.
But given I am more of a health nut, this is not my type of dessert. I feel my veins will clog with this. So, this one I can’t recommend but must try for the experience.
Service is good. They honor coupons. They have an app. The ice is too sweet for me-​taste like too much Splenda in your ice.
This is a good product for some people. But it is not for me. This is not yogurt. This is custard. Big difference.

When I found out that Rita’s existed, I immediately took the 40 minuet drive from Simi to check it out.
I spent a good two years of my life living in Orlando Florida. In Orlando there was a very popular local Italian ice /​soft serve place called jarahmias. Rita’s is essentially the same gimmick. Having thought that I lost Jarahmias forever, I had to see how Ritas would stack up, or if it could replace my lost love.
The shop is small and seemingly out of the way. The staff was young and super friendly. They were willing to help and preach the gospel of Geliti to my virgin friends. After some samples I settled on Cookies and Cream Italian ice, with Chocolate Custard.
The custard was out of this world. It was so thick and fluffy it could be compared to a whipped moose. The Italian ice layered between the two dollops of heaven was a little bit lacking tho. A tad bit too icy, but still good regardless. I’m being hyper nit-​picky in my comparison to my old love. It’s really easy to point out small flaws that in all reality would not be a big deal.
I was very happy to eat my frozen treat. At the end of the day it is definitely second place to my love of old, but Rita’s easily stands on its own two feet. I would recommend to them if they were to change things up, a middle layer of custard, and clear cups to make the blending more apparent. I know I will be going back next time I find myself in the area.

I could see why people like Rita’s, but for me, it’s just okay. I was a huge fan when they first opened, but once the initial «wow, there’s a Rita’s by my house» reaction wore off, so did the cravings.
Yesterday was my first visit in months, and I am in no rush to head back. I shared a kid’s size blue raspberry with my son and we DID NOT FINISH IT. For anyone who knows me, this is huge. It tasted like a glorified slurpee to me. They do have their bright spots (specifically anything in the mint chocolate chip family), but it just isn’t for me.
Now although my love for their food has dwindled, their service definitely has not. Their employees have always been friendly and professional, and yesterday was no exception. If I were reviewing them solely off their service, I could easily give them 4 or 5 stars. Sadly, my belly has a huge influence on my reviews, and said belly was not happy.
Another factor hurting Rita’s cause, is their location. It is great from a distance standpoint, but is literally located on the wrong side of the street. If I want to stop by Rita’s on my way home, I have to make three left turns, and a right, all within a 1 block radius. Within that same block radius, I could get to Rite Aid with one left turn, and Baskin Robbins with a simple right. Baskin Robbins definitely block-​blocked Rita’s on more than one occasion.
I would no longer consider myself a fan of Rita’s, but I would recommend you at least try them out. I could also see myself returning for more mint chocolate chip, but I would have to already be on their side of the street to even consider it.

There’s a great following for Rita’s and with good reason!
After hearing a lot about Rita’s from my friends who have been around the different states and just learning that Santa Clarita had one, I had to go and try it!
I was greeted with great smiles and genuine welcomes! They explained what it all was since it was my first time and recommended a few things to try! Great advice, but I had to stick with my gut! I did try their Custard with Italian Ice combo, and got the Juicy Pear with Vanilla Custard.
The Italian Ice is delicious here! Not overly sweet, but the texture of it was a little harder than I like my Italian ice. I like mine smooth, but it was almost chunky with those large clumps here and there. (only gripe?)
The custards are think and rich! Quite a different take than ordinary ice cream, and for some, it could be too thick and rich for them. If that’s the case, then you can just mix it well with the ice; easy fix!
Overall, with the great service and delicious treat, I can see why there is a large hype behind Rita’s. I will definitely come back to find more «happiness» behind other flavor combinations!
