There are few times in life when one feels completely secure, safe, watched over, loved from above — my stay at the Art School Retreat was one of them. No, there weren’t any hidden cameras or peeping toms, though you could be mistaken in thinking so due to host Miranda’s attentiveness and ability to predict and fulfill every need. The place has a touch of the retro — really loved the fans and quality of the blanket — just gave the room a nice feel. The amenities are all top notch. Stocked refrigerator(chai iced coffee w/almond milk, bottle of champers, some premium OJ) and dinner and breakfast were superior to many of the five-star joints I’ve visited across LA proper. If you get a chance, order the egg casserole I have to admit, I’m not much of a game gal, but Miranda and chief clerk Brassel really brought the laughs to the table with an epic array of entertainment. My stay coincided with Board Game Bonanza and I really was surprised at the impressive level of participation from the guests. I made friends, learned new ways to slip sexual innuendos into my lunch room, and, you know, I just really felt valued as a human being. The whiskey helped too. My only bone to pick, and this is just me being finicky, is location. The B&B is situated inside a gated community and some of the neighbors I bumped into seemed a little… off. I saw one too many tuba players in the adjacent courtyard, and flipping through the guest book, it seems she’s had some bad eggs in the past. To conclude, Art School Retreat was a joyous break from the long commute I endure most days, and the company and laughs along the way made this a night to remember. Thanks Miranda and Brassel!
