Math Enrichment

I had my kids go to Math Enrichment a few years ago. The amount they learn is based on the teacher. My son took geometry before entering 9^th grade. What a big waste of time. The teacher NEVER lectured. My son even took a video of the class where the teacher never lectured. The kids just sat down, opened their books, and worked independently. Biggest waste of time and money. I had to teach my son geometry that summer because the teacher did NOTHING.

I sent all three of my kids here this summer (K and 8^th grader) for the first time. First, I like the idea that my kids can continue learning in the summer and be better prepared for the coming year instead of wasting money in a lot of super expensive camps where when you look back years later were a waste of money (Galileo camps, for e.g.). None of my three kids ever complained about going to this camp, not even the 8^th grader. My daughter went to a lot of these high price camps in the early years and now looking back years later, it was a waste of money.
Second, the staff esp. Michael is so responsive and genuinely cares about kids learning and provides a lot of great advice. Every time I called him, he would answer. Every time I sent an email, immediate response. I wish our public schools were ¹⁄₁₀ as responsive.
Third, this camp is not by any means expensive. It is very reasonable and they have extended after school care which is also reasonable. A Galileo camp where the staff is primarily a bunch of high school kids and some college would cost at least 3x for me per child per week with extended care. Sure, if your option is to keep your kid at home it would be cheaper but any other camp would be significantly more expensive. This is an all day 6 week camp!
The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 stars is that for the younger ones I am not sure if they learned as much as my older one did, it seemed not as advanced. But even so, I would repeat next year.

What a disappointment. My daughter sign up for a geometry class here and didn’t learn a thing ! Teacher who doesn’t believe in teaching. He spent most of his times on his cellphone during class time. A total unqualified teacher. Will not be returning next year.

We were at the Palo Alto camp site and it was well run. Kudos to the site coordinator, Brian, who worked tirelessly to make sure the parents were well informed of the activities each week. He was always available for questions and tried to get to know every student and parents personally. My kids, 10 and 8, weren’t thrilled to go to «school» but the camp tried to incorporate some fun for the kids. Movies, video games, recess games, and field trips. It helped that my kids had friends who were at this camp. Who are we kidding here? Parents, the name of this camp is called math enrichment, what else do you expect besides school related summer program. All in all, at the end my kids enjoyed it, learned new material, and told me they would go back next year.

I completely agree with some reviews here… For my elementary student there is definitely not enough adult supervision! It’s actually a little scary if you think about it. I had a friend who was «lost» on afternoon! Appalled.
I’m conflicted about this summer camp because it’s a good deal and seems like an ok-​ish learning program for summer, however the supervision is definitely very lax. Also note that it’s so unorganized! Everything from enrollment, menu, charges are all last minute. I know there is no perfect program however this seems on the more poorly managed side. Don’t even get me started on poor teacher management and handling! Try to find something else and only send your child here as a LAST result.

my daughter and son went to their camp for two years. It is best value camp and also get good prepare for the next school year. Their management is very good, most every hall the students can reach they arrange staff watching. They hire experienced school teacher not like other pricy camp have college students for teaching. They always pick up phone even once I phoned at 7am. We lost testbook and the nice owner gave us a new one. The lunch is not pricy but kids loves it.
It is valuable and safety camp, really strong kids academic.
And again thank you for open camp at palo alto location and we never need go cupertino have their camp.

This is hands down the worse tutoring camp I have ever seen. Seriously; kids with no supervision, very young girls going to the bathroom without a chaperone, rude attitude by the woman who heads the operations, denying kids lunches because parents have not paid when in one specific case I know the parent had paid.
DO NOT waste your money on this place. It is a shame because the teachers are actually good but there’s no way I will let my kid go to this camp again. KI received ZERO feedback from the teachers, I never found out whether my kids was doing well or not.
I know of at least 3 families that are not sending their kids here again.

This program is extremely overpriced. My child hated the program. I couldn’t get a refund and was forced to just suck up the expensive cost of it. Instead, I enrolled my kid in the ROCK after school program at the Millbrook school. They do disguised learning and it was ALOT cheaper (less than half the price!). My child loved that program and didn’t want me to pick him up early. Go with ROCK afterschool (Its a city of San Jose program) instead of Math Enrichment!

I should have Read the reviews. …I didn’t and I am regretting. …Not a worthy program. …to make mater worst they will charge your credit card like they are your 17 your old… We had to call multiple times to get the charges reversed… but they happen again… You have to call… they apologize… and reverse the charges and then they charge again hoping it sticks…

My son is attending his 3^rd year of Math Enrichment at Leland. We have been very happy with the program and he has fun.
I love the flexibility the extended care provides and the cost is great. However, we had chosen to not use extended care the first few years cause we felt it was to free form for younger kids. But as an incoming 4^th grader we are more comfortable and he will be staying a few days a week.

I enrolled my daughter on Friday before the program started. The first question I asked — is there space available? She will be going to 6^th grade. They told me to enroll her in 7^th grade and then they said they will adjust. That is what I did.
Once the program started I sent emails as the 6^th and 7^th grade locations were different. The center person refused to put my daughter in 6^th grade as there was no space. The whole 1^st week was very chaotic. They never changed her. 7^th grade math has many new concepts… so she found it hard. All in all I wasted my money…

There is no cancellation policy indicated on the their website whatsoever. I called in and asked about their cancellation policy after I registered. They accused me of not reading the cancellation during online registration for Piedmont site. Most people do not pay attention during the online process. I previously looked through every pages on the website for cancellation, but never can find any information. So, my assumption is they are very flexible.
Here is their cancellation policy: as soon as you click ok, you are locked in. To cancel, there is a whopping $ 300 non-​refundable fee at any time before the class starts. After the class start, there is NO refund. I requested that they clearly indicated their cancellation policy in the FAQ on their website, and the response that I got was a simply a «No». Only company who intentionally hide the most crucial information is of course has the intention of scamming others.
My recommendation to them is working on improving the quality of their summer program so that the parents don’t request for cancellation after hearing overwhelming negative reviews. Then, they don’t need to be secretive about the cancellation policy.

I was so surprised about bad reviews. My son went this program in Cupertino, and he enjoyed studying math there. He mentioned that some students were distracting the class sometimes. In my opinion, these kids shouldn’t have been in the program if they didn’t want to study.

I enrolled my daughter in the summer 2011 at Piedmont Hills High School. I was excited at first because she needed to prepare for 4^th grade. What a mistake! Its so fast paced she not only ran behind but didn’t learn anything. They say Math Enrichment but its only math half the time and the other half of the day is spent on English. I will not be going back next summer. I felt like my daughter was only a number and not a cared-​for-​student. There are so many kids there, I don’t recommened this program for any kids under 15 and only if your child has mastered math. Let me break it down:
Cons:
1. Lack of security– anyone could’ve picked up my child during breaks, before and after school and they would not have known. One time I went to the classroom where my child was supposed to be tutoring and the tutor (which is a high school kid) told me she was in the movie room, went there and another high school kid said she wasn’t in there and said check the wii room. Go there and she’s not there. Panic sets in and the hig school kid from the movie room looks like he’s about to pass out, scared because they might have lost my child. I finally found her in one of the classrooms with another student where she was not supposed to be.
2. Before school program consisted of a few balls and hula hoops on the black top. Again I couldn’t tell the difference between the kids and the chaperones. Again potential for your child to be taken without anyone noticing.
3. Teachers– I didn’t know all the teachers but only the few my daughter had and looked like they didn’t want to be there, just a summer gig. Some of the teachers dressed to impress (my theory as to why will be in the Pro’s section) and my daughter told me her English teacher spent most of the class time on her phone on Facebook. The teachers gave my daughter a glowing report card at the end but I know she was not a glowing student (wished she was but I know full well she’s not)
4. Money– kinda expensive and if you want your kid to do the extra activities, be prepared to shell out money. Six Flags– money. Banquet– money, Fair– money, to chaperone a field trip– money…
5. Soooo many kids– the little ones will be eaten up by all the teenagers running around in booty shorts.
Pro’s
1. What a great Guy– the site director was very helpful, friendly, young, and good looking (I think the teachers came dressed to impress him!).
2– Free Jansport backpack and supplies
3– After school care was at $ 5 an hour (what a steal!) and I used it more than once and got charged for it only one time!
4. Free snacks– someone in the office was always giving my child free snacks (thank you!)
I think the program means well but just overwhelmed with too many kids. Kids= money. I won’t send my daughter back until she’s a teenager probably. If you want individual care and attention for your child, this is not the place. You’re better off going to a daycare or camp that doesn’t have a gazillion kids enrolled in it.

I sent my kids to the San Jose Camp. Take my advice and DON’t SEND YOU KIDS TO THIS CAMP!
Staff is horrible!!! They don’t know how to deal with 5 year or 7 year old kids or how to treat them with respect or their parents with respect. For every a small things they will keep calling us at work and will not treat you or your kids with any respect. Complains range from your kid is talking in calsss and causing distraction for teacher to «Take your kid home because he called his teacher a liar»
The way staff deals with kids is by punishing for every small thing instead of positive reinforsement. In my opinion this can have long lasting effect on kids personality.
Do your kids a favor and choose some other camp!

This is teaches children things way above their grade level and has immature and incompetent staff.

Beware of the no refunds policy. If your son or daughter finds out that they are overwhelmed at the accelerated pace of the program and should decide to drop, they will charge you $ 300 even if you drop on the first day of class. The pace of the program is too fast for many kids and that’s why it’s not endorsed by many of the South San Jose Middle Schools. It seems they will promise you the world to get you to put down that $ 300 deposit but refuse to refund you if you should find that its not what was promised. This is opposite to the «we will do anything to help your child…» propaganda.
This program for being as established as it claims, has no written drop or withdrawal policy like every other summer program in the valley.

This program is a WASTE OF MONEY!!! Parents if you really care about your child’s education don’t waste their summer by sending them here. It’s $ 900! That’s ridiculous.
The teacher’s aid aren’t helpful, in fact the tutors are high school students with no experience. The teacher to student ratio is also whack. Students are not getting the proper support. All the pluses and bonuses the site offers are complete lies because they require ADDITIONAL Fees. They are misleading to the customers and not helpful. The company is stingy and very cheap. PARENTS! Save your money for something that will actually help your child. This is an expensive and useless program. Summer school would have been cheaper.
