B&B Saab

I used to service my 2003 Aero at B&B Saab while the car was still under original warranty. During that time they charged the factory for all work. Once off the warranty, I began taking my Saab to another mechanic. One day, I had a head gasket replaced and the head machined at that other place. Immediately after that the engine would not start the first time or would shut off a second after being started. The other mechanic could not figure out what was going on but insisted that the problem was unrelated to the recent work. In desperation, I went back to B&B and spoke with Armano, the service manager, who proudly promised to figure it out «because he never had a customer leave his shop without the problem fixed.» I left my car with him, and as promised he eventually found and fixed the problem. The other mechanic, it turned out, put the wrong new gasket (they buy a kit with replacement parts that fit various models each, and picked the wrong one from the kit.)
Admittedly, Armano pursued a few dead-​end theories — every time certain that was the final one — before ruling out very conceivable reason for the car’s strange behavior. All these trial-​and-​error, which no doubt were cheaper that taking out the motor head right away, did add up to many ours of labor, that can hardly be covered by the shop’s «diagnostic charge» of some $ 260 (or something like this.)
In the end he removed the engine head, pulled out the gasket, and replaced it with the correct one. Problem solved as promised. We did have a discussion over the amount of labour that it cost, but Armano showed himself to be the man of his word — although I could tell that he wasn’t happy as this job did not make the shop much money if any at all.
Overall, this former Saab dealership was the only place in town capable of figuring out my car mysterious behavior. They did not take me for a ride but were honest and professional.

crooks!!! I just remembered why I never buy parts from them. Yeah, SAAB is temporarily out of business but parts are still being made and stocked by SAAB Parts AB and SAAB NA. I called for a part I need ASAP. $they want $ 163 for a part I can get online for $ 26. I got overnight for $ 54. Look elsewhere for parts and better cheaper service.

I thought it was interesting that this dealership (now a service station since Saab no longer sells cars) was receiving all negative reviews. I’ve been there 4 times with my Saab (oil changes, light bulb replacements) and always had a good experience. Sure, they’re more expensive than your neighborhood garage but you’re getting OEM service. The people are friendly and the tech was careful to explain everything to me. They also wash your car after any service. The waiting room is kind of small, but they provide free wifi.

Took my Saab there after hitting a deer on 280. After keeping the car for a week, they told me they couldn’t get parts for at least 3 months. Fine that happens when they stop making a car. So I decided to sell the Saab to salvage company. When salvage guys came to pick up the car, B&B Saab would not release it for 2 reasons:
1) They demanded I pay $ 160 for repair work (they removed the front bumper before they ever had parts to fix the car) — and called that «repair work» (I’m not making this up).
2) They charged several hundred dollars to «store» the car in their parking lot during the time they were unable to find parts (again, you can’t make this stuff up).
Hmm, where do I begin to describe the problem with their thinking.
1) Look up the word «repair» in the dictionary then ask yourself objectively — does removing a bumper constitute a repair? Apparently in their world it does. So keep in mind, if you take you car there for repair, they could decide to dismantle the entire vehicle, never bother to look for parts, and charge you thousands. Nice.
2) About that storage fee, have you been to B&B Saab lately? It’s a ghost town. They haven’t sold a car in a year — literally. So there’s not a huge demand for parking places. And even if there was, you dont surprise a customer with a bogus charge at the end of the process.

As much as I thought communicating with them via email and phone will reduce the negotiations and surprises, when I got there to ‘close’ the salesperson told me there was a slight problem and asked me to talk to his manager. Obviously, they realized they made a mistake in the quote they gave me.
Because I knew where this was going, I told him I don’t care whatever the excuse is, and that I intend to pay what he told me and leave.
So they called ‘the owner’ who said they will not be able to honor it.
As much as I thought the internet is helping to reduce friction from the car buying process, these car sales people still deserve the reputation they have earned over the years and continue to be blood suckers.
It looks like B&B Saab and Volkswagen is one of them.
