I was around the area on a Saturday afternoon and I’ve heard that they buy other stuff as well other than gold so I decided to stop by. The place is located in what I think used to be a bank, pretty roomy inside. The person that was working that day, Minh-Vu was dealing with another customer when I walked in. Despite being busy with the customer he acknowledged my presence and asked me to sit in their lobby area where they had a movie playing which helped time went by quickly, even if it was only about 5 minutes of waiting or so. When I was asked to come up front, he introduced himself to me and asked how I’ve heard of the company, which I replied that I’ve seen their cheesy commercials on TV before. After the small talk, we went to discuss what I was there for. I’ve heard that they buy silver and other currencies, So i brought a couple half dollar and dollar coins with me. He explianed to me thoroughly how he was going to be testing the coins to determine if they were silver and actually had me participate in the test so that I’m aware of what’s going. The coins were determined to be silver and I was able to get about $ 8 each from the coins I brought in that were pure silver, which wasn’t bad considering that if I just used them at a vending machine it would’ve only been for the face value of the coins. I was explained that they only write checks for the purchases they make, got my information and wrote me the check for the value of my coins. I was very please with my experience with this Goldmax location. It was a very friendly atmosphere and I did not at all feel like I got ripped off. I came in with an open mind and understood they are a business that’s looking to make a profit like any other business. I didn’t think I was coming in to break their bank with the loose change i found in my car. It was a much better experience than those I’ve had going to pawn shops or any other stores that purchase from their customers. I’d definitely come back and do more business with them in the future!

NEVEREVER sell your gold at GoldMax. This place is solely in business to riff low income and uneducated sellers. I stopped in GoldMax yesterday to sell a gold ring that I hadn’t worn in years. Before taking the ring to GoldMax I weighed it at home and calculated it’s value using 3 different methods online. Based on the ring’s weight and Karat count it was worth exactly $ 237. GoldMax’s first offer was $ 68! This is 28% of the actual value of the gold. I was very familiar with these shady gold buying operations, so I wasn’t shocked by their low-ball first offer. After explaining to the man behind the counter that I know exactly what the ring is worth, I gave him my only offer. I told him the ring is worth exactly $ 237 based on today’s gold price, but that I would accept $ 232 so that he could make a $ 5 profit on the sale. After giving him my offer, he tried every trick in the book to convince me that my calculation was wrong or that I was somehow confused about how to valuate gold. Some of the tricks that the GoldMax employee tried to convince me that my calculations were wrong include: Diverting my attention to «what I paid for the gold» years ago, which everyone knows is irrelevant to the sale, since the price of gold changes all the time. He asked me if I would show him step-by-step how I arrived at the $ 237 value. However, anyone that sells gold knows that this is not a one-step process. I explained that I took the weight in grams and followed several steps outlined on the Internet taking into account the price of gold today, to arrive at the current value of the ring. I also mentioned that I put the gram weight into a few website calculator apps to confirm that my price was spot-on accurate. At this point the man went from shady tactic to shady tactic to try to convince me that I didn’t know what I was talking about. Keep in mind, I’m a highly educated person and I did all my homework before working into GoldMax. After playing a few more games with me, he decided to call his corporate manager at another store(or so he said) to see if he could buy the ring at my price. I have no idea whether he was actually speaking to anyone on the phone or if this was just another odd tactic to make me feel like he was doing something to help me. LOL. Finally, after 10 minutes of wasting time, he changes his offer from $ 68 to $ 168(70% of the actual value of the gold). I told him I simply could not accept 30% less than what the gold was actually worth and I left the store. I ultimately ended up selling the ring on Ebay for $ 240. To any potential gold seller out there, please understand that GoldMax is only in business to buy your gold at significantly less than it’s actual value. In my case 30% less. I suspect that GoldMax and other gold buying operations like it are only in business to ripoff desperate people that need money fast and are willing to sell their gold at a fraction of its actual value. My tip to people looking to sell gold is to go to do your homework first, then take your gold to a reputable jeweler or a pawn shop. You’ll get much more for your gold at these places than you ever will at the GoldMax scam operation. If you have the time, you can even do better selling your gold on eBay. I caution everyone about ever stepping foot into a Goldmax. One dead giveaway that it is not a legitimate store, is that typically there is no more than 1 person working there at any given time. Have you ever been to any establishment that just has one employee? That should raise a red flag every time. As to any positive reviews that you may see on Unilocal for GoldMax, please keep in mind that they reviews are likely fakes or the persons posting these reviews got completely ripped off and doesn’t even know it. Fools are born everyday.

The dishonesty at this GoldMax location is prompting my first ever Unilocal review! Stopped in the other day to have a piece appraised. Having it only looked at once before I did not recall the weight specifics off hand. So once the customer rep weighed it, I had no reason to question their methods. Initial price was substantially below what I had in mind. Within 2 minutes, that initial price was increased 125%!!! Serious? They are willing to throw in every rebate, special, etc within 5 min? I still did not have the gut feeling that I should not sell at that moment, so I thanked the rep and left. Went to a jeweler that buys gold(which by the way has 5 stars on Unilocal), and immediately had a better feeling about it all. Same piece WEIGHEDIN30 grams higher!!! WTH??? Then I remembered that was the weight when I had it appraised some time ago. GoldMax would have gotten over on me majorly! When I mentioned that to the jeweler, he commented that maybe they were using«pennyweight»?? Not sure what that is, but all I know is that they would have scammed me and made a nice profit off of my sale. Instead I sold the piece at the 5 star establishment for 170% more the initial quote from GoldMax. Based on that initial experience, I would never attempt to do business there again. Would never be able to trust the company or their ethics.
