Randy is a Yamaha Performance Technician and rebuilds Steinways in her spare time. Some that she has tuned for are, Tony Bennett, Chick Corea, Mary J Blythe, Lisa Minnelli, Smokey Robinson, and Chris Botti. She recently retired from the U.S. Open Music Competition’s board of directors after 7 years. Past secretary of the golden Gate chapter of the Piano Technician’s Guild, offer seminars on music educations importance for child development. B.S. in Music Education, Magna cum laudi. Did masters work in Industrial/​organizational psychology.

She tunes pianos over the extended Bay Area including Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda, San Leandro, Union City, Newark, Fremont, Palo Alto, San Mateo, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Los Altos, Saratoga, San Jose, San Francisco, Novato, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, Orinda, Moraga, Alamo, Danville, San Ramon, Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore, Brentwood. I even service a concert artists 9 ’ Yamaha in Pasa Robles and rebuilt her Steinway.

I am a pianist and piano teacher in the east bay and have had the great pleasure in finding Randy Chastain as a technician and tuner. She is incredibly sensitive to detail and is a musician’s technician. Too many people in the industry hang out a shingle and call themselves piano servicers. Randy is a piano whisperer and has a highly trained ear for voicing and regulation. Most importantly she practices preventative medicine. I have two grand pianos both extremely valuable. Randy accesses possible problems that may occur due to moisture and climate very carefully. She is also a delight to have in the house. Too many tuners are high on my «creep me out list». Absolutely FANTASTIC service!
Recently I was in the process in purchasing a piano as a gift for my wife. First, Randy was able to educate on my purchase (my wife is the musically inclined half) and after locating the piano she was then able to appraise the piano the NEXT DAY!!! Which helped me out greatly being that the gift was a surprise gift and we were headed out of town the following day.
The biggest surprise at the end of it all was Randy actually tuned the piano before the delivery to ensure great sound quality upon arrival.
My wife absolutely loved the gift and I cant thank Randy enough for her time and knowledge. Randy has now just become our Piano Tuner!

This year we decided to purchase a baby grand for my daughter. And the purchase included a tuning. Randy Chastain contacted me and scheduled an appointment to tune the piano. She was prompt and very knowledgeable about how to care for our piano and she did a great job tuning the piano. I would recommend her for your piano tuning without hesitation!

«Concert Pitch Tuning» –Yesterday, I had my Piano tuned by «Randy Chastain. Randy is truly only the best. Not only did Randy tune my Piano, but she was at the store tuning other pianos when I purchased my piano and stopped what she was doing to help me when the Owner was not there. She took her time to show me the many pianos in the store and provided me with quite an education about pianos and how to select one. She played several pianos for me to demonstrate and even told me all about construction and soundboards. By this time, and because of Randy’s education to me, I was ready to make my decision. I purchased a Baby Grand with Love from Randy. Afterwards, Randy came to my home and spent almost 3hours tuning and educating me more on how to take care of my piano! There are not many people left who will give you this kind of attention anymore. I am truly grateful for Randy’s hand and sound and sound advice. Randy is «Only the Best» and I Highly recommend her for your piano needs!

Randy Chastain is a piano technician in San Leandro, CA. She sells and refurbishes beautiful old pianos and tunes pianos for symphonies and novices alike.
I recently purchased a older piano from Randy and I can’ t say enough about her. I chose an amazing Krakauer piano at a very reasonable price. The piano is probably at least 80 years old, but the beautiful hardwood and ivory keys are in great shape. Most importantly though, the sound is phenomenal. Not only because of the great materials that the piano is made of, but also the care and love that Randy put in.
If you are shopping for a piano, check her out. You will be glad you did.
