I can’t believe there aren’t more reviews here; maybe it’s because it says Sacramento on Unilocal,but Jamie (jazcat) has done many many weddings in the Bay Area. Have music, will travel!
I cannot recommend him highly enough. The truth is Jamie is SO GOOD that he is fully booked every weekend night on word of mouth alone. He was referred to me by a guest at the 24 hour turnaround wedding (reviewed below) who then booked him herself, then my maid of honor booked him, and someone at her wedding will in turn book him.
The reviews that say he saved an event are totally accurate. You don’t realize how important a DJ is until you’ve been to an event with a bad one, and you don’t realize how much EXTRA Jamie does until you work with him.
I am a former feature film producer, and a wedding is a full scale production, with every moment emotionally choreographed ahead of time, and the cues are important. I can tell you this is the guy to whom to entrust your ‘one-​time, everything has to go on-​time’ budget.
He is worth EVERY PENNY. He has an engineer’s attention to detail and perfection, and he takes his performance and reputation very seriously. When you are his client. you have his total focus. He KNOWS music and is passionate about it. Not certain genres, all of it. I requested some obscure 1920s music from my grandparents’ era, and he found it. He played a few songs that he couldn’t have known that I wished I’d included and yet, there they were; he is the human Pandora app. He’ll understand what you like.
The above and beyond value you get with Jamie:
* Wedding planning tools.
He has broken down the structure of how weddings flow, and as soon as you contract with him, he gives you a chart to fill in. For every part of the event, he has an extensive database of suggestions for every moment if you get overwhelmed by what to choose. You will have picked the soundtrack to your event with appropriate cues for every phase of the event. If you don’t know weddings very well (or like me, kind of hate them) he will guide you through anthropological structure of the event and give you all the options. And, best of all, he was open to customizing how we (haters of wedding-​standards) wanted to do things our way.
* Custom sound editing.
Our live performers had to back out. I had very specific time cuts I wanted for processional and recessional, and two spliced songs for our first dance. I was still catching up on emails while he turned them right back around to me within an hour late at night. And they were perfect.
* A complete copy of your wedding soundtrack. (!!!) You might not ever watch the wedding video again, but when you play your wedding soundtrack, the sensory memories flow.
* Graphic design for your photobooth print outs. He went waaay above and beyond finding images and typography for our theme.
* Uplighting. His uplighting package add-​on meant we didn’t have to pay a lighting company $ 2K! It was beautiful. You send him photos of what you have in mind, he makes it happen.
* Photobooth. Hard copies for guests, hard copies for you, and a thumb drive with full size digital copies. The photobooth operator put even the photo-​shy at ease. Jamie encouraged us to come up with our own creative backdrop, and it was a HUGE success. And a super value. The price is less than a groupon special, no time limit, and much better quality!
* Thorough walk-​through at the site prior to event. We had a challenging historical site requiring a fast outdoor front yard to back yard shift over the event, and though he is a one man show, we had not one single issue with audio nor one delay. He had looked at all of the outlets and was ready to go.
* Event timing. I did not have a coordinator, and there was a point where we had a debacle with some family members and the caterer, which could have thrown the whole event off. Jamie came to find me to make sure everything kept going as it should.
* DJ style. He has a confident master of ceremonies delivery, and makes the announcements without being schmaltzy nor overbearing. He does not cajole the guests into getting up with hokey demands, he gets them dancing with the music. Smooth music transitions and lively remixes that add to the dancing rather than sounding unfamiliar and jarring.
* Professionalism first. We had a creative anachronistic Art Deco Halloween wedding, and encouraged him to come in costume if he wished. He stuck with a tasteful proper black outfit appropriate to the era.
It’s a pleasure to work with someone who so clearly loves and enjoys what he does, and brings extra Zone-​level talent and service. I recommend him unreservedly!

Jamie absolutely made our party! We hired Jamie for a Christmas party that we were having, that had both adults and kids, and was on a Sunday afternoon. Jamie was amazing in how he «read» the crowd, starting things off with an easy tempo as people were just arriving, then picking things up as people had more drinks and were grooving a bit more! He did an awesome job at mixing in Christmas tunes and non-​Christmas tunes. Plus, working with him was a breeze — he is super thorough in gaining a good understanding of what you’re looking for, including suggesting songs, but he is so experienced that he can take the lead and suggest things. I’m truly amazed that he’s so affordable. So many friends commented on his excellent DJ skills and asked for his information during the party, including a friend having a party next weekend. He might have a conflict but I’m hoping that we get to enjoy him as a guest next weekend! We’re calling Jamie for our next party for sure!

We hired Jamie for our wedding on Sept. 21^st in Tahoe. He kept the party going and he played all my requests. He also kept extending his time for me. Things got started late and I didn’t want only an hour to dance. I think he kept it going an extra two hours! It was a fabulous memorable time!

I had been to a few weddings and the main thing that was constantly lacking was a good DJ. When my wife to be and I starting planning a wedding we agreed a good DJ was necessary. We found Jamie and he met with us soon after. He put us at ease right away assuring us it was our day and he knew what he was doing. Boy was he right.
He was involved during the planning process making sure the correct songs would be played at the appropriate time as well as music we did and did not want during the dancing portion.
On the actual day he was unbelievably good. Punctual, professional and fun. Great MC, great DJ. We could not have asked for more. He really has mastered his craft.
Do yourself a favor and if you need a DJ hire Jamie you will not be disappointed.

I hired Jamie to play at my boyfriend’s surprise 30^th birthday party. Let me say right away that Jamie was great!
Before the event, working with Jamie was easy and effortless. We met once in person and communicated the rest of the time via e-​mail. I felt he really tried to get a feel of the type of person my boyfriend was, in order to play appropriate music for the party. He arrived on time to set up and was very organized.
Jamie played the music from the playlist I had given him and more. He added in songs that fit perfectly with the crowd and the atmosphere. He had both his laptops there and was able to download songs on the spot that guests requested. He has a great personality and provided a wonderful addition to our party.
His price is something that first drew me to him. He is VERY reasonable; you cannot find a D. J with his same prices!
I recommended him to another group I am part of and was pleased when I heard great reviews from his service at that event also.
Overall, Jamie is a skilled, professional and reliable D. J who will assure the music at your event is everything you expect and more!

This passed weekend my sister got married and her DJ was nowhere to be found. Jamie was recommended by a friend so we gave him a call LESS THAN 24 HOURS BEFORE THE WEDDING. He was more than willing to help us out and we truly wish we would have gone with him from the beginning and we will next time. He completely saved the day! He did a FANTASTIC job. His enthusiasm when he introduced the wedding party and the bride and groom was awesome. Along with the rest of the night. Jamie is awesome! I HIGHLY recommend him!!!

This testimonial is a bit overdue, but better late than never. I feel as though people searching for the right person to hire as a DJ really ought to hear about the skills of Jamie Larson, proprietor of Jazcat Mobile. I’m pretty sure Jazcat is a one man operation, although I think he has other people that also work with him on bigger events or if an array of services are needed (photo booth, bartender, videography, etc).
We had not yet met when we both found ourselves in the Florida Keys to attend a close mutual friend’s destination wedding for a whole week (I’m in LA). Our friend didn’t even ask that he provide music for the wedding, but Jamie insisted. He actually went to the trouble of bringing a bunch of gear (whatever he could fit on the plane) all that way because he wanted to help make the experience memorable for Amie & Ryan. The beach wedding and reception were totally successful events, and about 40 of us rocked out all week poolside and had several epic karaōke jams.
As a musician, I can say with confidence that his knowledge of different styles and decades of music is very broad, and he has great taste that only the finest disc jockeys possess. I was really impressed with his ability to match up much of the music to the Hawaiian luau island theme and feel of the sorroundings. He kept all ages happy and dancing, which is an acquired skill. He was fun, interactive, and professional throughout the week. And he accomplished all of this while relaxing on vacation at the same time. If he can do that after traveling over 3,000 miles, I can just imagine there are also positive results when he works closer to home. When you factor in that he loves what he does, it seems like he is truly doing what he was born to do.
If music isn’t that important to you, you could probably be satisfied getting anyone to DJ for you. But if you are having an important event of any type that needs music done right, I suggest you hire Jazcat Mobile Entertainment.

Jamie did a wedding reception I was planning for a good friend. I was very impressed by how prepared he was for planning the event. We worked together before the event to make sure we were both on the same page with music, time-​lines during the event, etc. He also took the time to learn scripts for announcements and remembered the names of the wedding party and important attendees. No only did he play absolutely fantastic music that kept the crowd dancing the ENTIRE time, but he also offered to stay longer to keep the party going. So nice!
Also, Jamie is really flexible during the event, there were many times we had to make announcements, or change some sort of aspect, and he was never confused — in fact he took all the stress out of the changes. We couldn’t ask for a better DJ.
