Description

Specialties

Whether you want to eliminate or prevent joint or muscle pain, train for an athletic event, or simply get in shape to look and feel your best, sessions at Center for Balance will help you achieve your goals.

Center for Balance offers Structural Bodywork, private and semi-private sessions in Pilates Conditioning (using trap tables, reformers, etc.) and Injury Rehabilitation & Prevention. The bodywork can also be combined with Pilates to further customize your session. Structural Bodywork is deep tissue bodywork designed to realign the body and release acute or chronic pain, tension and stress. It is also effective in the treatment of injuries related to sports, repetitive stress, or accidents. It is a combination of various bodywork and movement systems developed or synthesized by Bill Carey.

History

Established in 1999.

Bill began his career in Structural Bodywork and Pilates after experiencing their benefits in addressing his own work and sports-related injuries, including a ruptured lumbar disc. In 1996, after 1450 hours of training, he became a Certified Hellerwork Practitioner. Over the years, he has continued his studies and research and has discovered ways to combine Hellerwork with a variety of other approaches in order to analyze a person’s biomechanics to tailor treatment to each individual client. He calls this combination of approaches and treatments Structural Bodywork. Bill also holds a Pilates certification, which he received in 1997 after a 650 hour training through the nationally recognized Physical Mind Institute. Bill worked with patients in several Bay Area medical and physical therapy settings before founding Center for Balance in 1999.
