History

Established in 2007.

Formed in April 2007 by Ray Buffer, The Relevant Stage makes its home in San Pedro at Warner Grand Theatre through a partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Its mission as a non-profit theatre company is to provide opportunities for aspiring actors to perform with professionals in a ‘real world’ environment; to produce new works by emerging writers and give voice to important 2^nd productions of works that have premiered elsewhere.

Business Owner

Ray Buffer (Producing Artistic Director and Founder) is a veteran actor of theatre, film and television. In his 20+ years of experience he has worked as a union actor and stage manager, director and producer on hundreds of productions. He is also a sought after vocalist and voice over artist, and in addition to his work with TRS, is the choral director for the world renowned, Mantovani Orchestra.

I’ve just learned that The Relevant Stage (TRS) in San Pedro has «…suspended further production pending fund-raising efforts». So, I feel now is the proper time to share my experience of this theatrical group. I’ve never given a bad review of any organization, person or product. I’m a sunny, glass-half-full kind of gal, so I’m always trying to discover at least one great thing about every aspect in life! I’m afraid I met my
match with TRS.
I volunteered for Ray Buffer and TRS back when they were still new to theSan Pedro theatre arts world, the mid-to late 2000s. My fellowship with the organization waned when, after spending a significant amount of money on their behalf for expenses, with a promise from Mr. Buffer that I would be reimbursed in an orderly manner, I was denied again and again the money I was owed.
I left the organization and for many many months following, I attempted to collect on his/their debt to me. Mr. Buffer rarely responded to my communications and the few times he did so, it was with yet another empty promise of reimbursement.
I so wanted to believe in Mr. Buffer’s integrity, that, after so much time, I even offered reimbursement in the form of season tickets for TRS for the next 3 seasons. I’m afraid that, as well, proved too daunting for Mr. Buffer and TRS. He followed through only once, and that was at the end of a theatrical season, leaving me only one event to attend with my season pass! After 2+ years of trying, I finally gave up on any possible reimbursement of the monies I was owed and filed my experience under ‘seriously bad judgement!‘
Perhaps the integrity of Mr. Buffer and TRS has improved over the ensuing years? I live in doubt!
My decision was to (capital N) Never patronize any event or organization hosted by Mr. Ray Buffer! I suggest that you do the same! There are so many other worthy local organizations and theatrical groups that truly deserve your time and support. Choose those others first, last and always…

My wife and I checked out «I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change,» the other night at the Warner Grand Theatre. Though in the beginning the production was a bit off in terms of the humor, the show quickly picked up steam throughout the night and it was a blast! The writing, jokes, and witty banter were so original and hilarious.
I can’t say enough of how well the actors performed that night. They were engaging and perfectly comical in terms of the characters they portrayed in each vignette. The music and lyrics were outstanding. The theme of the show was so perfect for the Valentine’s Day holiday. And lastly, how can you beat a full-on Broadway-type musical for $ 20 – 30? The shows put on by The Relevant Stage are perfect for any date night out. We will definitely check out future shows.

Relevant Stage Theater is presenting «I Love You, You’re Perfect… Now Change» at the Warner Grand Theater on 6^th St at Pacific in San Pedro. It is fun, funny, engaging… well worth a visit from anywhere in the LA area !
Actors /Singers are all super, showing great versatility in playing (and singing) various different characters in all the vingnettes. The Play itself is very clever and fun!
Musicians on keyboard and viola really capture the ever changing mood and play right into the action of the play. Kudos to them !
Go see it — You’ll have a great time !
