Presenting admission free Shakespeare performances every summer!
History
Established in 1998.
Shakespeare by the Sea (SBTS) is a nonprofit organization that was launched in 1998 by Producing Artistic Director Lisa Coffi. Partnerships with local city organizations enabled us to offer the performances for free. The first season was tremendously successful — over 3,000 people attended the nine performances at what was then an unused facility in the park. Since then, SBTS has blossomed. We now present a repertory season that runs for 10 weeks and performs in outdoor public venues throughout LA and Orange County. Our performances remain admission free. SBTS is the only company in California doing what we do. Each summer, the company tours to 15 – 19 cities for a total of 35 to 40 performances. Our Shakespeare productions are performed in a traditional, yet accessible manner for everyone to appreciate and enjoy. We bring together people from diverse economic backgrounds and all walks of life to enjoy an evening of free classical entertainment under the stars.

Lisa C.
Manager
Lisa is the founder and creator of Shakespeare by the Sea. She has an MFA in Theatre Management from CSU, Long Beach, and a BFA in Two-Dimensional Art from CSU, Sacramento. She has been involved in theatre for the last 20 years, the majority of which have been spent cultivating Shakespeare by the Sea into a mid-sized arts organization. In addition to managing SBTS she is also at the helm of Little Fish Theatre — a 65 seat black box theatre which operates year-round.
