Third time back today with my third dress. I highly recommend Jenny. She’s altered everything I’ve brought to her PERFECTLY. Now every time I need something, I don’t hesitate to come to her. She’s also very sweet and goes above and beyond (mending a little tear here and there) I would give her 10 stars if I could. The man who works here is also very nice. Love this place!

A very nice place! The only reason it doesn’t get five stars is because I don’t know how the dry cleaning element is or how more extensive alterations might come out. But for some fixing of seams on some work pants, they were great. Friendly, on time, a good price, and they were even kind enough to fix some missing threading on a pocket that I had just figured I’d have to deal with forever. I would definitely go back again for the same service or to try something else.

Jenny is awesome! Thus far I have brought 2 wedding dresses, 2 bridesmaid dressed, one formal dress, and one pair of pants to J’s to get altered and Jenny has done a great job with all of them. She has a quick turn around, and offers friendly and affordable service.

I took a work skirt in for a replacement zipper… they were reasonable priced… I know they did not over charge. I went to other cleaner alterations places and j’s was the least expensive. They were friendly, and professional.

Two years later, and going strong. The people here are friendly and accomodating, and something I didn’t mention in my previous review… very good candy:)

I’m so glad that I started bringing my clothes to Jenny. She’s done a lot for me, from simple cleaning to repairing tears, from tailoring pants to replacing buttons… And she had the job done early. When she was fitting me, she understood what i needed, her professional input was very helpful, and her skills are very precise and perfect on the first pin. I tried my tailored clothes on just now — everything fits great! I’m so excited to wear these clothes now.

Jenny consistently does an amazing job both with alterations and custom tailoring orders. She’s friendly, efficient, timely, and charges very reasonable rates. She understands exactly want I want done, and pays close attention to details. After very different experiences with other tailors, I can’t recommend her highly enough.

These guys really saved my butt.
I had a work trip out of town on Monday, and had a host of clothes to drop off the Friday before. Usually in a suburb like San Mateo you’ll get two day service on drop off, sometimes three days.
And I needed it next day. On a Saturday.
Fortunately I’d seen J’s on my way to the Caltrain and gave them a call — they don’t usually do next-​day for Saturday but would help me out. I really appreciated that
Their regular turnaround is two days and prices are reasonable but if I need emergency laundry* this will be where I go.

My folks have been using this company and love them. I went in to have a patch sewn on a pair of pants and was very pleased with the outcome. Great service. Quick turn-​around. Awesome price.

Jenny is the best! She’s now handling all my suits, shirts etc! Best tailor in the Bay Area! Super friendly service and finishes all the work in a timely manner!

Just moved from San Mateo and will miss these guys. Extremely friendly (they even made a hat for my infant son) and their cleaning and alterations were always speedy, professional, and problem-​free.

What more could u ask for? Great service always with a smile on their faces and fantastic alterations to boot! I took in a couple of pants to test them out they came back so well I brought back another 2 pair the next week to get them altered. I will always come back here as long as I live here in San Mateo.

This business proved to me that first impressions impact for continued business. The sales associate greeted me with a warm, welcoming smile and expressed genuine interests in my concerns for my tailoring needs.
At the time of my visit, I took advantage the 30% off promotion for a grand opening. Saved some cash, which is always a plus!
My garments specifically are premier labels that require extra care care to details.
Location is great and convenient to neighboring business: restaurants, coffee shops, salon, recreational parks, and banks.
I highly recommend this business with garments of efficiency brands to première brands.

Mary has been doing my alterations for years and does great work. I usually come in to get casual shirts and pants tailored. I always talk to her in person to explain what I need and she’s never let me down. The workmanship is always clean, hems are straight, thread is color matched and it never «looks» like an alteration. I haven’t tried something formal like a suit though I think she’d do a good job with that judging by Sophie’s post. She’s a very sweet grandmother too and has always been doting on my two boys. She makes you feel like family.

Came here to get a zipper replaced on a pair of shorts I love. I originally went in search of a well reviewed Tailor on Unilocal but saw that this place was closer and charged the same amount for the service.
The gentleman at the counter was very nice and I explained exactly what I wanted – A zipper fixed, an button added to where there was one missing and if they could reinforce the other buttons to save them from falling off too.
He nodded saying they’d do the zipper for $ 15 and the rest free of charge. I picked up same day at 4:30pm like I said and found that no button was added, and no other buttons reinforced. The older gentleman wasn’t there so I knew I’d be at a lost if I told the gal «He told me you guys would do the buttons for free.» So they replaced the gap with a non matching button (at my approval) for $ 1. Ha! Really?
Credit/​ATM accepted. Convenient and fair priced. Make sure your tag indicates any special instructions «like free button»! so you don’t get nickeled and dimed by the next cashier.

i went into this place one evening several months ago. there was a very nice man behind the counter. I showed him my two pairs of dress pants and my jeans I wanted hemmed. I asked him how much it would cost. he said $ 10 for the pants and $ 15 for the jeans. these prices sounded too good to be true, but who a i to argue. i went into the fitting room and put on the first pair of pants. I came out and he pinned them for me. while i was in the fitting room putting on the second pair of pants, i heard a woman come into the shop. the man and the woman had a heated argument in a language i did not understand for several minutes. i hid in the fitting room until i heard one of them storm out of the shop. i came out and the man was gone. the woman asked me why i was there. it was very abrupt, but i wasn’t really put out by it. she pinned the pants and then my jeans, without saying a word to me, but i thought — ok some people are shy. after we were done pinning all the pants i folded them all and brought them out to the counter, where i waited for several minutes for her to come back to the counter from the back area. still i was just chalking this up to her having a bad day. then she told me it would be $ 18 for each pair of pants and $ 25 for the jeans. woah! so i told her what he had quoted. since i knew what he had quoted was a little too good to be true, i was willing to haggle with her, but as soon as i toled her she started yelling at me. telling me he didn’t know what he was talking about. she screamed at me she was the one who actually did the alterations so she should know. she then proceeded to get go to the back part of the shop to get a composition notebook that had a list of the items she had recently altered and the prices. she kept shoving the book in my face and yelling at me that she knew how much it should cost because it was her shop and the man didn’t know anything. i asked her why he was left in charge of her shop if he didn’t know what he was doing. and she kept yelling at me telling me it wasn’t her fault she had to leave for a few minutes. i was extremely taken aback and felt like she thought i was trying to rip her off. but she never seemed to doubt that he had quoted the wrong prices, she just seemed to think i should have known better. i picked up my pants and started to put them back in my bag to leave and she screamed that i was not welcomed in her shop anymore. WOW! i know people have bad days, but seriously?

This is my new go-​to place for clothing alterations. I’ve had pants hemmed here and others taken in. I like the fact that they have advised me when it just wont look right to alter certain pieces rather than simply do the work I’ve requested (I have had this experience at other businesses). After a recent cleaning of my closet, I plan to bring in a couple more tops and pants to be taken in so I don’t have to get rid of them. The woman who I always see there is very nice and does the alterations herself. I can’t speak to the previous review since I have never had anything dry cleaned here and probably wouldn’t since it seems like alterations is their main thing. Plus there’s a great organic dry cleaner around the corner on 2^nd and Ellsworth (and although they do a great job with the dry cleaning, I no longer trust them to do any alterations.) I suppose it’s difficult to be a jack of all trades…
