Gentle Dental Hillsdale

Horrible.
Can’t keep dentists, always a new person. Should have been an indicator.
Had my wisdom teeth pulled, they billed insurance for something insurance said wasn’t the case. I have no idea, I’m not a dentist, but ended up with almost a four-​hundred dollar bill. When I called to correct this I was told nothing could be done, and that I had to pay the bill. So if one expert disagrees with another expert, I’m at fault? Wow.
It’s clear when you walk in that it’s not a top-​notch place. Not worth your worry. Just avoid this place.

Dr. Karrishma Jumani is a fantastic orthodontist, whom I have seen for the last nine months. She is highly knowledge about orthodontics and the latest techniques and products. Thoughtful and always attentive to patients of all ages. Very easy to speak with about any issue. I recommend her in an instant.
I notice most of the negative reviews are from 2013 or before, and I think the office management has taken much of this feedback. I have had great experiences with their front staff. Not only have they responded to every inquiry, I rarely had to wait for more than 5 minutes. When I have, the staff have alerted me quickly and explained why for myself or my family.

I had one visit. The room was not very clean and run down. BUT when they gave me a piece of paper with a referral on it with blood spots on it (and it was not my blood) that clinched it. I do not recommend this place at all. The second paper was a referral for implants and it had a large blood streak on it as well.
The treatment recommended was not in my best interest. It was designed to take more money. I went to another dentist today whose recommendation was logical and not as costly.

I came here to get a cleaning, February 2015, and ended up needing some fillings. I am self employed and don’t have dental insurance so it was nice that they have a membership that is only $ 59.00/year. It gives you almost half off most services. Fillings are definitely uncomfortable, but everything went great. Teeth feel good.

What a bummer to see such poor reviews! I have been coming here for years, and have always had a great experience in all honesty.
Dr. Bashti and his staff are very professional. He did a filling for me about a year ago and considering it was my first, he made my experience very comfortable. I come here every 6 months for a cleaning (which I had today) and the dental hygienists are always very sweet and gentle.
The scheduling staff is very helpful and friendly. Always greeted upon checking in and I usually have never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen. I like places that run according to their schedules! Both the scheduling staff in person and phone is always very understanding at working with my not-​so flexible schedule. I also love that you get reminders via email and are able to confirm your appointment online.
Great, clean place!

I was pleasantly surprise with my recent visit to GD Hillsdale. The hygienist Maria gave me a great cleaning and Dr. Bashti was through with my examination. Treatment options were explained to me as well as financial arrangements offered. I felt the staff was friendly, happy and knowledgeable, I heard they have new management. The office in general had a good vibe and I would recommend anyone give them a try. The fresh tangerines for their patients was a nice touch!

I have been patiently using this office for my three children for several years. The service is spotty with rarely any consistency on who my children see. They recommended braces for a child who was not ready do to jaw still growing, and the front office is rarely nice. They also changed the details of our ortho plan midway thru treatment. I finally moved my children to another dentist. If you have decent insurance, then there is no reason not to have a great dentist and tried to find it here, but it just didn’t work out.

Seems there is a long list of reasons this place gets bad reviews, but mine does not seem to have made the list. I was a patient for several years, and saw a new denist almost every time. When I would ask what happened to the last one, the answer was that they left the practice.
Apparently, 4 out 5 dentists prefer not to work here! (ZING) Most of my experience otherwise was OK, but I always booked early in the morning so I nevered had to wait and did not have much work done other than cleaning.
I finally gave up after my last visit, when, surprise, a new dentist recommended pulling my wisdom teeth out so it would be easier to clean back teeth. Look, I am ~40, my mouth fits my wisdom teeth with no problems and have have MANY (thanks to this place) different dentists looking in there and they have all said «your lucky your wisdom teeth fit». I am done here.

The dentist did not want to work on my teeth due to I am HIV positive.

today was my son’s first visit to Gentle Dental Hillsdale. I had quite a good experience, I thought it is important to let others know about it.
My son has fears from Dentists. I mean, he is a tough boy but do not ask him to open his mouth and get his teeth cleaned or checked by any Doctor. We had a bad experience a month ago at another clinic. the staff was not patient with my son.
I came today to Gentle Dental Hillsdale and it was totally the opposite. starting from the front desk until my son got to see the doctor, everybody was so helpful, so patient and so nice and understanding. even though, my son would not open his mouth a lot, Dr. Liaw insisted on talking a look and let me know his teeth status.
For the first visit I am going to rate my visit only Good. Hopefully, if I am still happy with them I will change the rating to 4 or maybe 5.

This has been my dental clinic for more than 3 years. The main dentist was adorable and very professional, too bad she is not there anymore. The pediatric dentist, Dr. Liaw is so great. My kid is very difficult to manage in a doctor’s office and they did great with him, with a lot of patience. She pulled one extra tooth he had and filled 2 more. I liked them to the point that when I moved to Sunnyvale I kept visiting them in San Mateo (I did not like Sunnyvale Gentle Dental at all), By the way dr. Duffy is real, great and very cute! He pulled my molar fast and without pain. He was great with anestesia too.

My experience with this dentist group has been worse.
They are a group of liars and dishonest group
I had scheduled an appt for 4, but the dentist group calls at 1:00 to let me know that i had missed the appt. Not sure if its the way to let customer know that they are closing early for holidays and winding up .
The front desk seems awful, its very difficult to have a polite conversation, the tone and the I DONT CARE attitude really turns me off to even talk .
So if you want a liar and dishonest group this is for you.

I’ve been a patient for 2 years of doctor Akjondi, the doctor and her assistants are very friendly and professional. However, I’ve been having horrible experience with the front desk, specially my billing issues. They send you to collection without even looking at your account or letting you know ahead of time; although it was their mistake but i had to fight to get my name out of collection. Very unprofessional front desk, i dont recommend to go there if you want to keep your credit report good.

Dr Kashani and Dr Naeimi are professional, thorough and as gentle as a dentist can be. Am not fond of Dr Duffy (poor ‘bedside’ manner and reason for only 4 stars), but the rest of the staff is friendly and professional. I read the other complaints about billing and scheduling desk, they may be busy but I have found the prices more reasonable than other offices if you use their related insurance plan, very reasonable.

I went to this office for a few years and I liked the dentists and hygienists I saw when there. No major work done by them outside of a few fillings.
Here is the problem: These guys cannot be trusted when it comes to billing. We continually got «final notice» bills from them asking for random amounts that they could not substantiate. This happened time and time again. They do not keep accurate records of charges or payments. They have a hard time mapping charges to work done. They do not send itemized bills. In other words they are either unbelievably incompetent or outright dishonest. I’m not sure which and I don’t care cuz I ain’t going back.
AVOID!!!

I took my family there and the service is acceptable.
I had issues with their promises adjusting my account balance since June. The final update is that their manager finally called me today (Sep 14 2012) that it is adjusted and my balance is zero. I am very happy on that.

Dental here is pretty good, but I do NOT recommend them for orthodontics!
We started at Gentle Dental for the pediatric dentistry, with which we never had a problem. In fact, both of the dentists my daughter saw here were very good. When it was time to start orthodontic treatment for my seven-​year-​old daughter, we simply started seeing their orthodontist. The first orthodontist we had was fine. No perceived problems, though it is difficult to have an orthodontist who is only in the office one day a week. (This applied to every orthodontist we saw and also applied to the pediatric dentist — oh, and the orthodontic surgeon is in only one Saturday a month!) Suddenly she was gone and another orthodontist replaced her. Then another replaced the second. That was when the real troubles began!
We had paid a deposit on «Phase 2» of orthodontic treatment in January 2011. One year later we still hadn’t begun Phase 2 because we were waiting for my daughter to lose more baby teeth so they could band the permanent teeth. (Later learned that most orthodontists remove the braces while waiting for this to happen, to prevent unnecessary decay.) When I asked to have my deposit returned until we were ready to move forward, Dr. Jumani decided that my now nine-​year-​old daughter should have her remaining 8 baby teeth pulled because they were overdue to come out. They pulled all 8… in one sitting. Turns out there were a few problems with this:
1.) She now had very few teeth left with which to chew!
2.) These teeth were NOT overdue to come out! I found out later that, of the 3 types of teeth she had pulled, one usually doesn’t fall out until 9 – 11 years of age and the other 2 types usually don’t fall out until between the ages of 10 and 12! (My daughter, again, was NINE!!) Six months later, five of those permanent teeth have not yet come in, so it seems unlikely that they were overdue in coming out.
3.) Because it has taken so long for these teeth to come in, the back teeth are now moving forward into the empty spaces left, requiring additional orthodontic correction! And, because the gums have healed completely, she will essentially have to endure «teething pain» (like babies do) as those teeth begin to erupt.
A few months later, Dr. Jumani set up a consult for us with the orthodontic surgeon to have TWO PERMANENT teeth removed because of overcrowding. After waiting two hours beyond our scheduled appointment time to see the surgeon, we couldn’t even DO the consult because he didn’t understand why she wanted the FIVE teeth she indicated in the chart to be removed. In fact, 2 were still in the sinus area and COULDN’T be removed and another was a baby tooth! Hmmm… thought those were all gone. MY OPINION is that she wanted to hide that fact from us that one baby tooth remained, though I can’t be totally sure, since I haven’t spoken to her since then.
To top it all off, when we went to a new orthodontist and, when they removed the existing bands, they told us there was a BIG cavity. When we went to a new dentist about it, she found another. Both were under the bands on the very back teeth and both the new dentist and new orthodontist stated that it was improper placement of the bands that caused the cavity — NOT improper hygiene on my daughter’s part!
When we terminated our contract early, they tried to overcharge me (tried to charge me for services not rendered). I was eventually able to get a refund for Phase 2 (appropriate since IT NEVER HAPPENED!) and for the medically unnecessary extractions. But even that was a difficult and drawn out process. It took six weeks to get anywhere at all. Then, what I got was a letter from corporate (InterDent), with whom I had not been allowed any direct contact. I had to go through the Hillsdale office manager, who I always felt was talking down to me in a very condescending manner. The letter offered a partial refund and required me to sign away any rights to further legal action. (Of course, there was no apology or even acknowledgment of responsibility — that would leave them open to legal action.)
Because the letter had contact information for someone from corporate, I contacted InterDent. The woman I spoke to seemed to feel the amount given was a full refund. When I gave her information to the contrary she said she would look into it for me. Due to the record InterDent has set forth in our case, I am not surprised that I am still waiting 10 days later to see what the result of her efforts will be. (I blame this on corporate, not the individual. She is the first one to be polite and helpful in this whole matter.) If this process does not end favorably, you will hear from me again!

If you are looking for a «third world like office» with first world prices then this is the place for you.

Scary. Just plain scary.
I called them when looking for an oral surgeon to take out my son’s infected wisdom teeth and the woman on the other end of the phone said they didn’t do oral surgery, but they had a mobile oral surgeon named Patrick Duffy (really) that came in one day a month to do extractions. He happened to be coming in the next day and had a completely free schedule and could pull my son’s teeth first thing in the morning. I asked about the infection and she said the teeth just needed to come out and the infection would go away. Something didn’t seem right and I told her I’d call her back.
Luckily for me Dr. Ahani’s office (see my review) called me and said they could see my son the next morning. When I took him to Dr. A they said if the teeth had been extracted while they were that infected my son could have died. They put him on antibiotics and scheduled his surgery 10 days down the road when his teeth would be infection free.
The moral of the story is if you go to the mall for a tooth extraction from a once-​a-​month oral surgeon named after a movie star, you might end up much worse off than if you do your research and maybe pay a bit more for someone that is known for his careful and diligent practice.

I came in here to find both a new orthodontist and new dentist. I just moved to the area from across country.
I visited ortho first, after waiting 20 minutes in an empty waiting room, ortho said I must see dentist first to coordinate treatment– I’ve had braces on for 2 years and hadn’t gotten to see a new ortho in 2.5 months– wires were loose– but no help here– 5 min visit by ortho.
Came in a few days later to see dentist and for a cleaning with alot of misgivings but I needed the braces corrected.
Whoops no cleaning since I had braces on– I’ve never heard of that nor was that my experience for last 2 years. And it was a total shock to hygienist– no record that I had braces. Saw dentist for 5 minutes– she was not helpful in any way. Then they tried to get me to come back a third time for cleaning. I asked why they are so disorganized and said that was what Unilocal said– read while in dentist chair– receptionist said that was an old group of employees.
Well nothing has changed. She also said I would not be charged for first time visits. Since they did nothing. Well I got the summary of benefits paid from delta dental today and lo and behold they charged $ 111 for a comprehensive visit (I guess a non-​comprehensive visit is less than 1 minute. Plus they wanted to take all new X-​rays when they could easily get them from old dentist.
Result– found a new dentist and orthodontist.

Maybe I should have figured it out from the empty waiting room both visits ~ 10am both days.
