Eminent Electrical

My lighting circuit for my living room blew out and I needed an electrician to fix it. At first I thought it was just a blown light switch, but after Alex came here it turned out to be more complex than that. He and his assistant came a second time and were here a few hours. At first they thought they would need to tear out the drywall to get access to a transformer in order to make the repairs (because of limited access from the attic), but this was avoided with some creative troubleshooting.
The strange thing is that the exact cause of the short is not clear, but my circuit breaker was tripping when the circuit was completed (after the switch was removed from the circuit) – so there clearly was a problem. I understand that this happens sometimes when someone is fiddling with a system and something is unknowingly changed that fixes the problem. But at least Alex was able to avoid a much messier and expensive path to get there. All the lights work now.

I was looking to upgrade my old 100 amp electrical panel to a modern 200 amp panel. I shopped around, getting quotes and schedules from several electricians. Alex had a very competitive quote, and flexible scheduling that fit my needs. He explained what needed to be done, the process and parts involved. Work was done without me even being home, and without any issues. Will definitely use again for any electrical work in the future.

We were required by our new house insurance company to have our home’s 1929 ‘knob and tube’ wiring replaced. Alex and his crew did an excellent, masterful job! They had to contend with difficult places to get to (very small crawl space, high attic, and some places they had to just drill holes in the walls). The wiring works, the holes got patched, and those walls repainted so well, we can’t tell where the holes were. Very nice crew to have around, and they always cleaned up any sawdust or plaster each day. Alex is also a general contractor, so he was able to supply not only the electrical work, but also the patcher and painter.

I called in the morning and had an appointment that afternoon. Alex came over and installed a Nest thermostat, re-​worked a NEMA 6 – 50 outlet, and then installed my EV charging station. His work is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable! Highly recommended.

Wow… called Alex for a quote for a new dedicated circuit for a dual fuel range, and he was back within 2 hours to get the job done, in the cold and dark. What service! His quote also was almost 75% less than another I received. THANK YOU ALEX!

I do not normally write Unilocal reviews as if service is good, that is what you pay for and you shouldn’t get a review if you do a good job. However, when the company or business goes and does an exccellent job, like Alex and his crew; then a great review is warranted.
I chose Eminent Electrical to come to my house and install LED recessed lighting & dimmer switch in the living room, LED recessed in my daughters room, and add an outdoor plug for lighting.
Alex and crew were clean, prompt, and very thorough. Lights work great, clean work, and very detailed. The outdoor plug required more work that just adding a plug (he had to retrace the lines inside the house and fix somethings that weren’t right before doing his work. This is why you hire a good electrician, they don’t just add-​on to bad work, they bring it up to you, fix it, and then do their work. Plenty of others would have just added the plug I wanted without fixing the other stuff.
I will use and plan on using Eminent Electrical for all of my electric work and will recommend him to anyone looking for a big or small job.

Alex at Eminent Electrical does great work. I have used him for ceiling fan installations, lighting and wiring an outdoor shed. Good pricing and gets the job done when he says he will.

I contacted Alex because we had a recent kitchen, dining room and bathroom remodel and we were concerned about the work the electrician did on the job. I asked Alex to look at EVERYTHING the electrician did, and he found a number of problems — reverse polarity, outlets not properly grounded, the electrical box mislabeled, etc. He corrected everything and even printed up a diagram of our electrical box so we could label it properly.
We also asked Alex to do some other electrical work in our home, and to properly connect some speakers in the back of our house that were no longer working, along with our DVD player, etc. The speakers took quite a while to troubleshoot, because we didn’t know if the speakers were no longer working, or if the control on the wall was not working, or if a wire was disconnected somewhere along the way. Alex figured out that the speakers were not correctly hooked up to the back of our receiver and fixed the problem. All of our equipment had gotten unplugged by a carpet cleaner and a handyman tried to hook everything back up, with limited success.
Alex was very friendly, responsive, patient and knowledgeable. He was assisted by Kwong (sp?), who is a hard worker and very capable. Kwong’s English is limited, but he is not shy, and does his best to communicate. They were both a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend Alex’s company for your electrical needs. He is also a licensed contractor. Judging by his work in our home, he must be a good contractor. He does very neat work.

I saw Alex on Unilocal and called because we were having electrical issues with our garage. He quickly responded back and came to fix our garage by the afternoon the same day. Completely coincidentally we chatted about a remodeling project for my bathrooms and found out he is also a contractor. He showed me some example photos from the work he’s done and after meeting with him another time for official consultation, he was quick to get back with the quote. His pricing was very reasonable and even came under budget for us! The work was timely — ²⁄₃ weeks faster than what other contractors were bidding. I’ve attached a few photos from the bath remodel. We are planning on hiring him for our addition as well as our kitchen remodel. I highly recommend Alex! Very impressed by his professionalism, response time and quality of work.

I am looking to buy a 1920s home in another city that is full of knob and tube wiring, and I wanted an unbiased expert opinion on the risks and how soon we would need to upgrade. Our garage door was broken and we were in a rush to get it fixed. We called Eminent Electrical and Alex came extremely fast. Once here, he did a quick fix the Saturday we called him, and later came back for a full solution on Sunday. Overall a fantastic job and the fix was really clean. The wiring looks really neat and the door works like a charm. Definitely a good experience.

I found Alex on Unilocal.With all the good reviews, I figured, why not try him out? We bid out the complete re-​wire (all outlets, switches, fixtures, etc) and panel upgrade of our 1955 house in San Mateo to three electrical subcontractors. Alex was definitely the most knowledgable of the three contractors I had price our job and he gave me the confidence that he has performed this work before (which means a lot when you are trusting your entire house re-​wire to a contractor). Alex and his crew started as scheduled and completed our work quickly.
I was pleasantly surprised as to how clean Alex and his crew were. He had to cut access holes in some of our rooms to route wiring (which he did very cleanly with a hole saw and kept the «pucks» to install after he was finished). I was actually surprised as to how few holes he had to cut. He cleaned up after himself every day. With two kids at home (4 years old and 2 years old) this was very important to us and Alex exceeded our expectations.
He handled the entire permit process and had our home completely signed off by the City of San Mateo after one trip back to address a few inspector comments. He worked very hard and ran into some obstacles (overcame them with a quick call to me to check in with what his plan was, then proceeded accordingly), but held his original bid with no fuss.

I wish more contractors were as professional and awesome as Alex and his crew (Chris specifically). They did a big job for our new home we just moved into, and they were fast! We were also under a time constraint, as we are expecting our first baby, and wanted a lot done before the due date. Not only did they finish ahead of schedule, but their prices are great. Alex had the best price compared to other electricians we shopped around for. We were very comfortable while they worked at our home. Very very trust worthy and highly professional. From start to finish, Alex was very professional – showed up on time, provided estimate right away, and finished the job as promised, on time! I would definitely use Eminent Electrical again. Great group, led by Alex.

One difference between good and great is how you handle the obstacles that come up during a job. Alex is a great electrician and general contractor. We hired him to rewire our 60 year old house in San Mateo because we were tired of having extension cord wires everywhere and not having a grounded system. We wanted more plugs, more lights and the peace of mind that comes with knowing your wiring is up to the latest city code.
I found Eminent on Unilocal and had Alex come give us one of the three estimates we got for the job. He was very responsive in email and phone, and met with us shortly after I requested more info. As we met with three different companies, each electrician had their own ideas about what we should do, however Alex had the experience and knowledge that gave him a clear advantage. He asked questions the other two didn’t even think of. Alex said he had done it many times before and his bid was competitive and very specific.
In addition to the complete rewire, he also installed an Attic fan, security cameras, wired smoke/​CO2 alarms and some LED lighting. He replaced every outlet, wall switch, rewired every light and fan, and patched the old outlets and a few holed he did to fish wires through difficult spots for the cameras. He did not leave a mess in the house as we were living there at the time, and the final bill was exactly what he said it would be. Alex was not only a supervisor to the people he brought to help him, but he did most of the electrical wiring himself. The whole job only took a weekend, and then a return trip the following weekend to finish up some loose ends and camera installation. He worked with us, around our available times, and even scheduled the final inspection with the city on a day we could be home. The city inspector signed off without any issues.
I mentioned obstacles in the beginning. Old houses have quirks. Ours had several that were unexpected and what I thought could be disasters were taken care of almost immediately without any panic, and he still kept to his original estimate. That what really made this a great experience and why I highly recommend Alex for any work you might be considering him for.
