Ron Seligman is a very nice guy, but he did an absolutely terrible job on my 2008 personal and business taxes. Granted, this was a while ago, but I tend to believe that characteristics like careless and lateness continue to follow one throughout life.
First, he finished my taxes at the very last minute, on April 15 despite having all our info 2 months months prior.
I then checked the tax return he would have had me file and found an ENORMOUS amount of errors in the return that would have cost me thousands of dollars. Most notable was that he used $ 0 as the cost basis (the price I paid) for several of the stocks I sold, when of course I had paid a LOT of money for those stocks (in many cases, I actually sold them at a loss) — thus the gains he calculated were extremely high. This error alone would have had me overpay by several thousand dollars.
He also screwed up the calculation of my business income despite having only three 1099-​MISC forms to add up correctly.
There were at least 10 – 15 errors of this type of magnitude. Stuff that Turbo-​Tax, or really anyone, would not miss.
As a result, the tax returns were NOT filed on time, had to get an extension. And worst of all is Mr. Seligman still charged me the full rate on the tax returns — a bill that topped $ 1400!
I naturally decided not to go with him after that. But guess what, his carelessness continued to haunt me:
1) After filing, I received «Mail Audit» notice from the IRS on my return, because Mr. Seligman did not include my childcare expenses on the return, but I had a flex-​spend account for childcare through my employer and my W-​2 form showed I used it. So that triggers an audit right away. Another basic mistake, since I had provided Mr. Seligman with a spreadsheet listing my childcare expenses.
2) He had me file Estimated Taxes of $ 800 for the Franchise Tax Fee with the state for my brand-​new S-​corp. Well, guess what, you don’t have to pay this fee the first year you are a corporation. Something I thought a CPA would automatically know. So he had me pay taxes I did not owe. I did file a corrected return and got this money back, but it cost me time and money.
In short, do not use him. He is careless and has the potential to cost you THOUSANDS of dollars.

I would highly recommend using Ron Seligman for your accounting needs. He and his associates have been supporting my business for 12 years and have contributed to our success in many ways. They are available and eager to assist.

My husband and I have had our taxes done by Ron Seligman for 8 years now. He is friendly, honest, patient, sharp, knowledgeable, and a very good communicator. He takes time to listen and makes excellent suggestions. We make our appointment for mid-​February every year, and have no problems with turn-​around time. Ron is nice enough to see us on Saturday, even though he is involved with kids sports. We have been completely satisfied with Ron’s work.

Regarding Ron Seligman. Upside: Friendly, well-​informed, gives good advice. Downside: Pricey, repeated promises to deliver by a certain date, promises not met. If you’re in a hurry, I wouldn’t choose this person.
