Aikido is an excellent self-defense system particularly for kids & women. Aikido is a non-aggressive and non-competitive traditional Japanese martial art that teaches how to defend yourself using an attacker’s force and momentum. Aikido offers a fun and engaging form of exercise while learning practical self-defense techniques; you will learn effective techniques in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.
History
Established in 2002.
At Aikido by the Bay we practice traditional Aikido as taught at the Aikido Founder’s dojo in Iwama, Japan. The dojo was founded by Brasse Sensei when he moved to the Bay Area from Melbourne Australia. Since opening the school, six of the original students have achieved dan level ranking and are registered black belts with the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Japan. Aikido by the Bay is also a member dojo with the «Takemusu Aikido Association.»

Daniel Brasse, 4th Dan Aikikai, has taught Aikido for almost 20 years. He started his martial arts training at age 12 and reached black belt level in Shotokan Karate until shifting to Aikido in his early 20’s. During his 25-year professional career, Brasse sensei has held positions in Law Enforcement and Corporate Security, during which time he had many opportunities to apply his martial arts skills and experience during real life events to resolve conflict in stressful situations. Brasse sensei is committed in his mission of teaching Aikido as the founder of Aikido Morihei Ueshiba & Morihiro Saito Sensei taught it in Iwama.
