I rarely do this but I just had the most unpleasant conversation with woman who described herself as the owner of this business that I feel I must share to warn others as there are many very helpful and friendly carpet stores in the area. I simply called to explain that I was looking for a thin carpet pad that does not have a mesh structure to it. She told me she doesn’t carry it anymore and when I tried to get a little more information so I could try to find a product I know to exist she rudely and inexplicably said «I won’t go there». She all but hung up on me. Very strange. California Carpets was able to find what I need for me easily and in the most pleasant manner.

This review is long overdue. We needed to replace the carpet in our master bedroom and the entire house is hardwood floor. We have dogs who peed on our carpet and couldn’t get the stains out and we were expecting a puppy soon. Brandi was totally awesome, she recommends vinyl floor which looks like hardwood, got samples to take home to match our hardwood. The order came in 2 weeks and the crew was able to install it in one day. 6 weeks later, it totally held up since we were potty training our puppy, totally waterproof and performs better than our hardwood. The crew was able to do a soft grading from our hallway to master bath because of the different height difference. Loved the new floors. Thank you.

Nancy and her crew are awesome. We have used Abbey Carpets several times. They are professional, show up on time, do what they are supposed to do — and leave us with rooms that look gorgeous when they are done. Give your business to a small business that knows how to treat its customers.

Judging by so many bad reviews, I should have stayed clear of this business. Instead I thought, since I’m going to be installing the flooring myself, what could go wrong.
I chose my floor, they came out and took the measurements and ordered the flooring.
I spent over $ 3k for 350sq. ft & my quote just said flooring for living and dinning areas. Four days later, when I went to pick up the flooring I mentioned that it did not look like it was going to be enough and was told that it was and that I will have several extra pieces left over.
Well, I ran out of planks and when I talked to them they said it was my fault because I don’t know how to trim wood. I then measured the room myself (3 times) and sure enough, the wood provided (330sq.ft) was 20sq. ft less than the room measurements. I was told o-​well, if you need another carton we can order one for you at an additional cost.
Don’t trust these people… Read the negative reviews.
I will update this in a couple months after legal action.

Worst carpet company you will ever find. Unprofessional and unresponsive — poor quality work — Nancy Stanton gets a gold star for making the sale and not delivering or following up and taking care of customers. Installers leave much to be desired!
Run don’t walk from Abbey Carpets also known as San Mateo Carpets!

After such great service in the past we used them again. Sadly things have changed. They came in with a competitive bid to beat out another dealer. Once we gave them the money the excuses came in about back orders. After several weeks of us calling them we finally had to reselect. They had us step down several grades for the same price as the price match was only good for the «unavailable» carpet.
It is kind of sad when you have one great experience and one that really isn’t positive. At this time we probably won’t use them. Maybe they were having a tough period, but it was not the service they once offered.

Nancy Stanton is the master of flooring. She not only recommends great flooring but she’s always interested in managing your budget so you don’t overspend where you don’t need to. That’s why I always trust going there.
I’ve worked with her on flooring for my personal residence as well as 4 houses that I’ve been involved in selling. 8 years later, my carpet in my house looks fantastic. Her carpet and flooring layers take pride in the work they do. Plus, she and her staff’s flooring knowledge is so helpful in narrowing down your selection.
In the 4 houses that went up for sale, they results have been terrific. In one case, the house was in Capitola. I thought her crew would never go that far south and remain competitive. But, they did. And, she didn’t give me the low-​down loss-​leader price because I believe that it should benefit both of us. She made a profit while i got a competitive price. So glad I didn’t go to Home Depot on that project.
Abbey Carpets has also done carpeting for my parent’s home and I’ve recommend them countless times. I can’t say enough nice things about them.

Awful customer service. If you’re interested in having a fast-​talking salesperson who doesn’t listen to you, doesn’t respond directly to your questions, and acts like you’re using up their precious time (even when you’re the only customer in the store), then this is the place for you. Also the place for you if you respond well to a comment like, «not to sound snooty» followed by a snooty comment. This is just the type of place to make you not want to spend your money there.
