History

Established in 1962.

Clarence Thoma Established Thoma Electric in 1962. Son’s William (Bill), and Edward (Ed) grew up in business. William earned an Electrical Engineering degree from Cal Poly State University San Luis Obispo and Edward at BS in Industrial Technology from Cal Poly. Sons Bill and Ed purchased the business from their parents in 1989. Electrical Engineering was added to the business in 1981 and has grown steadily since. Average number of employees ranges between 60 to 70 employees but peaked at 150 in 2011 when completing a five Story Hospital Project in Santa Maria for Marian Hospital. Thoma Electric Consists of Electrical Engineering, Major Electrical Construction, Small Electrical Construction, and Electrical Service divisions. «Important Projects come in All sizes». Thoma Electric is capable of taking almost any project from Cradle to Grave from Design, through Construction. We also perform Data/​comm work copper and Fiber, Solar, and emergency standby power systems.

BS in Industrial Technology Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 1983. Worked for National Semiconductor from 1984 to 1986 working as a Manufacturing engineer supporting wafer fabrication (the making of electronic chips). Came back to SLO at the end of 1986 to work at Thoma Electric and an Estimator, project manager. The jobs has grown to include Company Safety Director and Manager of the Service Plus division of Thoma Electric which includes Small to Medium size Electrical projects, and also Service which includes trouble shooting your electrical problems, and solving electrical mysteries for our clients as well as small time and material jobs you need done at your Home or Business. We provide after hours emergency electrical service if you are in need.

Had an exterior pump outlet issue and, while alternative companies were swamped with work until the next week, Thoma has a service technician out the same day. David was very knowledgeable and friendly, and clearly outlined the fix and what it entailed. He was patient with a variety of service questions and was willing to work with additional requests. Next call for an electrical issue requiring a professional will be to Thoma Electric.

The economy must be getting a lot better. After calling three local independent electricians in my area with either no returned call or a very very delayed returned call, I decided to call Thoma Electric. I needed some home electrical fixes done, which included replacing switches and light fixtures.
I was very pleased to have my call answered right away by a very friendly gal who took down my information and confirmed a time for me a few days later.
Loren arrived within 10 minutes of the start time of our appointment. He did great job and was tidy. I’m sure you can find someone cheaper — but my time has value and Loren and Thoma electric did a solid job, on time, and professionally.
I would use them again for my home repairs and upgrades.

Gill from Thoma Electric came to our home today and helped us out big time! He was so friendly, kind, and helpful. We just moved in and had several outlets that weren’t working. He got to the bottom of all problems and fixed everything, and was a pleasure to have in our midst all the while! If everyone was as friendly and helpful as him, this world would surely be a better place. He truly went above and beyond and was also completely professional! I signed up for Unilocal to write this review, and I hope lots of people see it. Thanks Gill and Thoma! Couldn’t be happier.

We had a huge list of upgrades to our home done by Lauren and John. This involved upgrading lights to LED, replacing smoke detectors, upgrading thermostats, installing plug, installing a bathroom heater, and fixing all the bad things the builder did when they built our house in 1996.
The guys did a great job and left the work area clean. We had a couple of set backs in the project where we wanted a light in a specific location but they could not put it there because of the way the house was built. This had nothing to do with the work they did it was just one of those things that happens in a Honey-​Do list of 24 items. I was especially impressed with the communications from the guys on the overall job.
I would recommend Thoma Electric to my friends.
