I am very happy with my experience at Rainbow Auto. They were easy to work with and very communicative throughout the whole process. I never had to call and ask for an update because they continually called me with status reports of my car.
My car looks great and is driving perfect.

From the moment I met «Bernie» my insurance adjuster, to John, Owner/​Operator of Rainbow Auto, to Enterprise (for a car rental-​hey Logan), to Derek and Romero also of Rainbow Auto, my experience with this business was on an A+ level. When you talk to John or Derek (or anyone at Rainbow) they are actually engaged with your conversation and although they are extremely busy you are the only one they are talking to at that moment. I suspect that as they work on your car it is with that same attitude. They had to replace my bumper and paint it. It came out beautiful!!! Thank you for taking care of my car and making the process as seamless as possible. These «guys» are all about customer service. I would highly recommend Rainbow. Thanks a bunch.

Five star service, five star quality, highly recommend. I live in Northern California, and my daughter was in a non-​injury accident the day before the ²⁰¹⁵⁄₂₀₁₆ fall quarter started at Cal Poly. She didn’t need this type of distraction as she started her senior year. I did a lot of research over the phone and Internet, and even called a couple of car dealers and asked where they would send their customers in this situation. Two shops floated to the top of the list. The car was a Honda, and an individual at the Honda dealership (service department) gave Rainbow a glowing review — this was enough to push me in their direction.
I’m so glad I went with this shop. I’ve been around awhile, and I know every town has one or two good auto body shops, several you avoid like the plague, and the rest are unknowns. It is so important to get a good shop. One you can trust, who can commit to a firm repair schedule, and one who does quality work at a fair price. You and/​or your child in college do not have time to deal with a slow, incompetent or unethical business. I can assure you, you won’t have these types issues with this shop. No doubt this shop is one of best in SLO, and I highly recommend you allow them to fix your car.
John and Tony where so helpful from the very first call. The car was a late model Honda Civic, and the damage was severe (In the $ 6,500+ range). I was concerned the insurance company might ‘total’ the car, and the estimator at Rainbow understood my concern. The insurance company decided to move forward with the repair. I was kept in the loop at all times. They helped me to get the car transported from the storage lot to their shop, and even offered to give my daughter a ride when she returned her rental and picked up the car.
In addition to the insurance claim, I had them provide a separate estimate to make an out-​of-​pocket repair. They understood my budget, and worked with me to minimize costs. Rainbow’s only concern was any repair they make represents their work and craftsmanship. They didn’t want to do half a repair, and have it possibly and unfairly reflect negatively on them. This concern was valid and reinforced to me I was dealing with a company looking for long term customer satisfaction. They stand behind their repairs, and want them to serve as examples of what others can expect. We came up with an excellent plan on how to get the repairs done, and still stay within my budget.
For those on the fence on where to take your car, especially if you’re out of town like myself: Notice how many reviewers identify the Rainbow employees by name. Having been responsible for large scale corporate customer service operations, this is a very positive sign — many people will take the time to remember a name if the experience is bad (usually to complain), but it really has to be exemplary customer service and quality work for someone to commit the name to memory for use in a future review.
I hope to have another child attending Cal Poly next year. While I hope I won’t need another auto body repair, I now know I have a ‘go to’ repair shop in the SLO area. I would feel very confident in taking a vehicle there again, or even asking John and/​or his staff for a referral to a reputable mechanic for general repairs or maintenance.
Five stars ‘*****’ all the way. The car looks and drives great (according to my daughter), and it turns out my insurance company warranties the work Rainbow provides (another indicator I chose the right shop).

I had to come in twice because my replaced mirror wasn’t firmly secured, but they were so excellent, it was almost a pleasure to go in a second time. They did really great work. While I’m horrible with names, the two guys in the office were very professional and courteous and they addressed all my concerns happily and efficiently and didn’t needlessly waste my time.
They were very friendly when I brought my car in and were personable in all my interactions with them. I don’t love paying hundreds of dollars because some inconsiderate coward doesn’t have the slightest modicum of human decency to accept culpability for smashing into my vehicle, but they did excellent work in restoring the damage, so at least they were able to make one aspect of my misfortune less stressful. They even gave me a suggestion on a simple repair I could make elsewhere on the car that other mechanics have claimed is impossible, so I appreciated that.

based on other Unilocal reviews, i went by rainbow auto body this morning to see if a small dent/​scrape could be repaired easily. and, wow, was i glad i did ! the minute i pulled in (and they were very busy), a young man named ramiro approached me, asking what i needed. he then summoned his boss, john. even though my problem was not able to be fixed, i was so impressed with their personal attention to me and my problem. there is no question, if i ever need a body shop, this is where i’ll go. glad to know, also, that Unilocal contributor know their stuff. thanks, john, and rainbow.

An auto body shop is the type of place everyone wants to avoid like the plague. However, if you need one (as we did) this is the place to go. Our neighbors told us about John at Rainbow and we couldn’t be more pleased. John is friendly and easy to work with. Since we were footing the bill for some damages that we didn’t want to submit to the insurance company we went to two body shops for comparison purposes. Results: (1) John gave us an estimate while we were waiting unlike another shop that wanted to email their estimate the next day. Second, John’s estimate was about 20% lower even after some additional repair work was discovered after the tear-​down. We went back a month after the paint job for a full car wax job. Our car looks looks like new again. What more could you want.

The customer service is great. The owner really knows his stuff. Both the guys in the fron t were real easy to talk to.

I chose Rainbow because they had the highest rating on Unilocal.And they get the highest rating from me! The service was quick and extremely friendly. I got free drop-​off and pick-​up without waiting (20 miles). They worked with my insurance company and kept the price below the threshold for increasing my premiums. That was a big money-​saver! I will choose them in the future.

Update 2.0:
Came back to bring my truck in to get my amp looked at. I appreciate that they addressed the matter quickly and professionally. Turns out my original installer did not crimp the ground wire correctly so when the side panel was removed, the wire was remove from ground but not enough that it was visibly so. The guys over at Rainbow walked down the street to get me a new wire and apologized for not double checking and for leaving trash in my car. All and all it got fixed and I’m a happy customer. Definite recommend. Go here before anywhere else!!!

I came here on a Monday morning, already annoyed at my day because I had to deal with my car. The guys who worked here turned my frown upside down because I was greeted so kindly — and with a donut.
Chris helped me the entire time and answered any questions I had, also offering me some advice on how to deal with the other insurance company. If anything happens to my car in the future (hopefully not) I’ll make my way over to Rainbows!

They are a great business, as a broke college student, I went for an estimate after a shopping cart hit my car, scared of how much it would cost to fix it. They were very nice, came and took at look at it and fixed the scratch right there for me without making me pay or go through my insurance! Will definitely be returning if I ever need auto body work done again (let’s hope I don’t though!)

I have used Rainbow Auto Painting and Body twice now and both times my experience was first rate. John and all the guys that I worked with were polite, honest and professional. The best part of the experience was their willingness to explain all details of what was needed to do to repair my car and what they planned to do to get the job done. They did a beautiful job on both occasions and the cost was very fair. I am so happy with this business that I would not even consider going anywhere else. Oh yes and they are quick. They also took time out of their busy day to fix a light bulb that had burnt out (6 months after my repair). They were under no obligation to do that, but they are just really good guys!

I had a wonderful experience here with John! They were able to fix my car almost twice as fast as anyone else could have in slo and they did a great job. I was delighted by not only the quality of work, but also their customer service. I would definitely recommend going here if you need any work done on your car!

Brought my Volvo in to see if it was worth painting… John and Chris were knowledgeable and honest — even though it didn’t earn them any money. They understood the insurance situation and were able to guide me through my decision-​making. Thank you so much!

I took my Prious in for repair. John and his crew did a wonderful job on the repair. They also did some comp work which I really appreciated. The experience with this shop was above and beyond. The work was done in a timely manner. I highly recommend this body shop.

Rainbow was extremely helpful in repairing my car and dealing with the insurance company. They were all friendly and easy to work with, gave me a quick estimate, and when all was said and done they did the actual repair in half a day. It was my first time taking my car into a shop for repair and they made the process easy for me. I definitely recommend checking them out.

Super happy with the quality of service provided by John and the guys at rainbow. Not only were they very kind and accommodating but they did an outstanding job replacing my front bumper after rocky raccoon decided to jump in front of it. This was my second experience with them and I will most definitely use the again and highly recommend others to as well! Keep up the great work guys!!!

The service these guys gave me was the real deal. Chris, John, and Henry are all super nice guys and helped me out with my car tremendously. You can tell they love what they do and really care about their clients. I’ve dealt with enough garages with attendants who act like they know everything and don’t know how to deal with people. The biggest thing with these guys is that they communicate with you what they are doing with the car and let you know if there are any hiccups. Most garages I’ve dealt with don’t take that extra step. If you need some body work done and done well, these guys will get the job done.

Before I get into the meat of this thing, a couple of things. I am a 71 year old male who has had his share of accidents in the 55 years that I have been driving. Nothing serious, just the small fender-​benders that require the services of a collision shop. I am also anal about customer service and perfection in the completed job.
I had an unfortunate encounter with a young male who was not paying attention. His car was totaled, mine had extensive damage to the left front end. It is a 2013 Ford Edge we’re talking about and I wanted the finished product to be the same as pre-​accident.
I discussed the job with John at Rainbow and he assured me that I would be more than satisfied.
I called my carrier — State Farm — and was delighted to hear that Rainbow is a Select Service Provider. That means no adjuster from SF is necessary. Rainbow does the estimate, they submit to SF and no need to wait for an adjuster who might have little interest in perfection.
Suffice it to say, the job was completed beyond my expectations. Thank you John, thank you rainbow!
If you don’t mind — I hope that this is the only time that we have to do business together!

My review comes from a costumer service perspective. I had my car pretty badly dinged up and came to rainbow for an estimate because my insurance company recommended them. I could not bring my car here however because they do not open up until 8 when I need to be at work in Morro Bay at 7. When I tried calling the shop after work (5:30PM) I discovered they were already closed and did not have an answering machine. The worst part of the experience was then discovering that by getting an estimate, it authorized them to order parts for my car and was charged a restocking fee when I did not bring my car in.
I felt like Rainbow not only did care about me, but also took advantage of my inexperience.
If the circumstances had been different, maybe they would have fixed my car and I would have been extremely satisfied with their service, but they did not, I cannot recommend Rainbow.
