Art’s Cyclery

After driving 4 hours to get to their store to check out and buy a bike that my son saw in line, I was a little disappointed they didn’t have the bike put together. (Even when I called and told them I was coming in). The two young men I talked to didn’t seem to really care that The bike wasn’t put together and that I drove that far. My son had been looking for a bike since November! And we were ready to buy! They finally decided to put the bike together, but it would take a few hours! So, they suggested «High Street Deli», since we were hungry! EXCELLENT place! Small inside, but very good! Drive to Pismo did some shopping, came back at 4:30 pm and the bike was put together… He rode it around, bought the bike and a «Go Pro» camera! Thank you for helping me finally put this bike shopping behind me! Just remember, when people come in and want to buy a bike, you need to bend over backwards to make the sale happen. I felt like I was the one helping you get the sale. I would of given the shop 5 stars then!!!

Stopped by to get a tire tube and look at gloves. In store 10 minutes looking for what I needed. Not acknowledged by an employee until after I found what I needed. Also tube seemed overpriced, $ 8.50, I’ve paid 6.50 for same tube at other cycle shops.
Then I needed new cleats the day after New Years. The shop was all locked up and gated at 9 AM, Web site said they open 9 AM on Sat. I waited around till 9:20, then headed over to Flanders when I called and verified they were open had what I needed.

I’ve ordered a couple of sale components from Art’s website and the transactions went smoothly. I wanted to try the Specialized Body Geometry foot-​beds (insoles), which the local Specialized dealer didn’t stock and Specialized won’t sell online. I was in the area (I moved away from the Central Coast for a job change) and stopped by Art’s retail store. They had the current and previous versions of the foot-​bed in stock and I asked questions regarding the difference between the two models and the different styles. The sales person seemed to be making up his answer. I went to my car, logged onto the Specialized website and realized that the answer that I had received was absolutely wrong. I bought the correct insole and, when I got home, realized that someone had opened the small bag and removed the wedges that I needed. I was in the area a couple of weeks later and Art’s was unable to help me with the wedges or refund my money.
On another occasion, I saw a Salsa seat post clamp for sale on their website. I happened to be in the area and went into the retail store. I know several online stores (two on the Central Coast) that honor their sale prices in their retail outlets, but Art’s doesn’t.
Echoing other reviewers: their in-​store prices seem high, selection is very limited and they seem to want to up-​sell everything. The warehouse/​fulfillment center for Art’s Cyclery, Running Warehouse, Riding Warehouse and Tennis Warehouse is combined and there’s always very limited parking.
I’ve had one really good conversation with a more experienced sales person. He actually talked me out of two items and my subsequent research confirmed that his recommendation was spot on. It’s the only reason for the three stars. Overall not a terrible store, but nothing to inspire my loyalty.

This place is great! Huge selection of bikes and everything else you could possibly need. Often I go to Arts with an idea of what I need but am not really sure since there are so many options these days. Like tires or dropper posts for instance. Their incredibly knowledgeable staff has never steered me wrong. Go here! Lifelong customer.

I’ve only utilized them for their online services, but they really do deserve 5 stars in my opinion.
First time was to get some marsh guards, cause my friends and I are all just so enduro. Arts was the only place to find them in colors, other than their actual website. I was on a tight time frame and needed them sooner than the Royal Post could deliver them.
I saw that they were available from arts, in all colors, and in stock ready to ship. I live out in the Temecula area, and received them next day. I know it’s close, but knowing that I can order before 3pm and receive next day before noon is a good deal.
The next thing I needed were small parts for my KS dropper. After calling all my LBS’s, or the sad excuse for LBS’s that we have, AND contacting KS directly, I had given up. I searched on the Arts site for a few minutes and voila! nearly every small part for the KS droppers. Now, were they a tad expensive for what they are? sure, but in life we pay most for convenience, and this was convenient!
Again, incredibly quick shipping, I ordered them yesterday, and I’m already looking at the box on my living room table now.
Arts always has what I need, and the checkout via paypal option is great. The whole process is streamlined and very user friendly.
Again, this is only for their online shop, but I would assume the brick and mortar is run just as tightly.

I came up from San Diego for Labor Day weekend to ride and 3 miles into my ride the ratchet on my floating hub broke on my mountain bike. I left my group and walked back to the truck and was so fortunate to find Arts. Even though is was a big holiday weekend the mechanic jumped on my bike immediately and within an hour was I was back on the trails. They saved my weeks and only charged me $ 10 for an hours labor. These guys are AWESOME!

Cycling season is in full swing for me right now and I had to get a few items for my bike.
Being the value oriented person that I am (friends say cheapskate), I shopped online for the bike stuff.
Ordering was really easy on their website. But here’s where they excel.
The item was ordered at 10:00 AM and shipped that day. I received it as promised and everything was correct.
You may say I was lucky and it was a once in a while occurrence, however I ordered 3 different items on 3 different occasions with the same great result.
So…great prices with great service means a repeat customer.
You’re probably asking why not 5 stars? I reserve that for those rare businesses that are far and away better than everyone else.

Went in to look for spinning shoes and a bike for my son. Walked around for about 5 minutes and not one person acknowledged me! There goes a sale

I used to frequent Arts while I attended Cal Poly. Since graduating, I rarely make it into the brick and mortar store. Now I rely heavily on their online store. I’m located in SoCal and most shipments are received next day. They are a great resource for parts and knowledge.

About me: Extremely experienced road and mountain cyclist.
Art’s is it. I used to frequent many other bike shops in the area, but as I grew in experience, the other shops increasingly didn’t have the items I wanted to buy. And I’m not talking obscure items (which Art’s has), I’m talking wear items for high-​end road/​mountain bikes. Stuff I have to buy every few months, if not more frequently.
Art’s has it. Has what? It. Everything. Anything I want, Art’s has. Any tire, any brake pad, any knee pad, any helmet. They have it. They’re the ONLY bike shop I’ve ever frequented that has everything I want/​need to buy. This December I called another bike shop in SLO looking for a pretty common tire (WTB Vigilante) and they said, «ah, sorry, we don’t have them, I can order one for you but it’ll be here in February.» I called Art’s and they had like 7 in stock.
They’ve also got the most experienced mechanics, in my experience. And their employees (and owners) are some of the fastest riders in the area, both road and mountain, and they’re able to give excellent recommendations.
In short, they’re a bike shop that can take care of everything you need, almost all the time. If I’ve got a problem, they can fix it and fix it right. Their prices are also competitive with other online discount retailers.
Go there.

Great shop, nice variety of bikes and parts. Sometimes hard to get hold a sales rep — can get busy on weekends or after work and customers take longer than they expect. But… when you do get with someone, they are amazingly detailed, knowledge, helpful, sincere, patient, and give you their full attention. Great biking fitting service, repair, and general gear.

Bad return policy. Used product once and it was not good and they refused return for refund or credit. So many places out there do offer this policy so why order from Arts. I see no reason to.

Awful customer service, wrote this review while standing around waiting… barely a hello when coming in. Better service online.

Service review — Took my bike in for a replacement part and it took exactly four weeks to get it back after: inability to communicate with the manufacturer (they are even an authorized dealer of their bikes), ordering of the wrong part, forgetting that my bike was in their shop to install the part, and lack of communication about the situation (I had to call for updates). HOWEVER, they did eventually get it worked out, apologized for the issues, returned my bike clean/​fixed, and did not charge me for parts or labor.
There will always be issues running a business, and I understand that, so they were able to eventually fix my bike and did not make me hassle with them when I picked it up, changing a potential terrible review into a three star.

I needed to find a front dérailleur and found these guys on line. I pinged them with some questions and they quickly answered. Price on item was better than ebay and amazon. Appears they specialize in hard to find parts for high end bikes. Bottom line is they shipped that day and I had the next day. Part was perfect and so was execution of my order.
Not sure about the store since my only dealing is on line, but I will tell you the online portion was terrific and a lot better than anything on ebay. Highly recommend if you need something fast and uncommon.

Art’s is so great. most bike shops do the normal, but Art’s goes the next step. For me, I’m not local, but ive ordered parts on line and always got great deals and great product from them. but for me, Art’s shines best as an on line and email info base. The youtube vids and info they post are great. I’ve also sent them emails asking stupid and not so stupid questions and I always get a good fast and informative reply. Way to go Art’s…

Excellent service, specific items in store

I know next to nothing about mountain biking so when I went into Art’s today looking for some shoes and pedals I was pretty much going to be a time-​sucker with inane questions like: «what makes that buckle better than the other?» Anyway, I took this kid Josh hostage and by the time I walked out of there I pretty much had all the answers I came in for thanks to Josh’s patience and attentiveness. He also sold me some great pedals that were priced better than I could find them online.
Kudos to Art’s for the great staff and having all this cool gear that I’m going to have to ask a million questions about.

1. Horrible Customer Service.
2. If you don’t ride a VERY NICE BIKE, don’t waste your time bringing it into the store, unless you want to be judged. Also, Rocco said it was going to be a couple hours before my tire was fixed, then a younger guy came up to me a couple minutes later as I was walking around and asked what I needed help with. He checked out my bike & said he could have it done in 10minutes. He said he had to go talk to Rocco first, then came back & fixed it pretty quick. Props to that guy.

Got a decent deal on my bike. That’s all I can really say other than
get fitted on your bike… At foothill cyclery. They are better at it.
