McKevitt Volvo

After spending some time abroad, I began the dreaded car search process again back home. Sad to say, I think not much has improved in terms of why people hate the car buying experience so much. I will probably post more reviews based on my experience, but I want to leave one for Steve Carlton at McKevitt Volvo now before this expires in my mind.
I actually did not end up buying a car from Steve, and that’s only because I decided not to get a Volvo. However, Steve struck me as one who truly understands what «internet sales» entails. I submitted an inquiry late evening on a car they had in stock for sale (which turned out was *actually* available and *for sale* — I’ve found that in many cases cars listed in inventory for sale are, hmm, really not when you contact the dealer for one reason or another). Steve responded promptly and asked me a few *substantial* questions (as in, answers that *actually* mattered in calculating price). I provided the info, and at around 10 pm, he provided just what I had asked for, no fluff, no sales pitch just the lease terms, cap cost, monthly payments, taxes, etc. He also answered my questions about lease assumability very quickly, even though he didn’t know the answer himself. Surprise! You’d think that when you ask a simple question such as how much you’re selling the car for that you’d get a simple answer, but more often than not, that’s not how car dealers operate, at least not the others that I’ve dealt with.
Internet shoppers are more informed on average and want to save time and cut to the chase, and they’re really not about hassling and negotiating to the dime — at least, I’m not. Dealers, especially those with an «internet sales» dept needs to understand and respect that. I may not have received the best price from Steve, but I appreciated the fact that he was prompt, clear and actually answers your questions. Next time if I want a car that he’s selling, I’ll not hesitate to reach out to him first.

I leased a 2016 Volvo S60 from McKevitt Volvo last friday. Scott Thompson was the salesman. I contacted the dealership through the internet. I told Scott what I was looking for and asked for a quote for a lease. He emailed me back with some very competitive numbers. I went in for a test drive and ended up leasing a different car from him. There was absolutely no «bait and switch» tactics with Scott. He took his time with me and walked the lot to look at all of the inventory the had. He said if they did not have what I wanted it would be no problem to order it. Scott did not use any high pressure sales tactics, he just wanted to make sure I got the car I wanted for a fair price. After all the paperwork was signed he went out to the car with me and set up the infotainment system for me. I’ve bought a lot of cars in my day and this was one of the quickest and easiest experiences I have ever had at a car dealership. Thank you Scott Thompson.

I have been to three different Volvo service shops in the greater Bay Area, and I took my car to this one on its 30k and 40k check up. I was amazed at how quick they did the service check ups… It seemed very impressive! In fact, Besides the speed, they seemed to be very thorough and were delivering some great news to me. I even proactively asked «how are the brakes? I am at 40k… They do not need new brake pads or anything?» The response was «you are doing great!“Well, this week at just 5k miles since the last checkup, I needed new rotors, brake pads, a battery and two tires. I can appreciate that some of those things may have occurred after, but the technician who recently fixed my car said «no way you can exponentially go through brakes in just 5k miles… You were grinding metal on metal». Long story short… Don’t go here, or you will be sorry.
(Btw– one last item, they also said that I had to make for brakes since that was not covered in my plan, when they did finally need replacement. It turns out that even that wasn’t true and that’s been confirmed at another Volvo service shop)

My husband and I have had a great experience at McKevitt Volvo and are really thrilled to have such a nice upscale dealer and Volvo service locally. We’ve been bringing our 2001 Volvo S40 for the past 3.5 years for service and oil changes, and have had great service (nobody laughs when we bring our 172,000 mile car in!). We really like the waiting area. There are good work stations where you can plug in your laptop and get some work done while you wait, a small play area for kids, and a comfortable couch area.
Recently, we were thinking of buying a car, and Kurt helped us check out the splendid Volvo XC60. I’m a librarian, so we had done a ton of research and it was time to drive one and see how it felt. Kurt was great — he was full of excellent information and was fully able to answer all of our questions. I was so impressed to learn that Volvo has orthopedists design their seats — they are just amazing! Those comfortable seats converted me from practical Subaru to gorgeous Volvo.
This was our first time even seeing and driving the XC60 in person, and Kurt was patient and helpful throughout our visit. We knew we were not ready to buy just yet, and he was great at helping us. When we said we’d like to test drive the XC60 with Sea Shell color and ivory interior, he astutely pointed out that we are visual people. He went out of his way to find more information for us about the XC60, and to show us two slightly used models that were available.
When I had to recently cancel a service appointment, I explained that I’d just lost my job. The service person on the phone was so kind — he said he was sorry 3 times and was so reassuring. That kind of kindness really means a lot to me.
We are sold on Volvo. We had a great experience, the car was gorgeous and drove like a dream, the showroom is modern and upscale, and we are definitely a Volvo family. We’ll keep bringing our Volvos here to McKevitt’s. Thanks, Kurt and the service shop!

Oh, if there were zero stars. One month later, something that should have taken a few days at best. Sent away the first time to wait for a call back on parts delivery. Called back two weeks later with no visit on record. Gave them another week replace a leaky windshield and to check on stuck car seats. Because the car seat «worked fine» during the visit, they did not check them. Do things mysteriously stop working? Or are they caused by a tangled car wrapper, as one of the techs claimed? Came back to car seats not working. That’s when they thought to run diagnostics on the car seat. Three weeks later. to Four trips to the dealership. Paid for replacement on key remote battery. Brought back car home and discovered that the key didn’t work remotely at all. Horrible horrible horrible. The last time I felt this frustrated was with Ryan Air. If you know what that is like, you know what I mean.

Call Steve Carlton; you won’t be disappointed. He is utterly trustworthy, knowledgeable, patient and kind. You’ll truly get one of the most positive sales experience you’ve ever had. I hope this doesn’t sound too positive to be credible, because I really mean it.

About few weeks ago, my parent bought a 2016 xc60 from Mckevitt Volvo with the best sales man Scott! We love the car a lot w/​the hightech function! We really enjoyed while we are driving&sitting inside the car b/​c its so comfortable! We «ve been to several different dealerships before, but Scott is the only one who made me really want to buy a car from him! We’ve been Mckevitt Volvo for few times to completed the whole purchasing process due to my parent hv different available schedules, and we always got there so late, like around 6.30pm b/​c we got off from work at 5.30pm, and they usually close at 7pm. One of the reason I like Scott is he NEVER shows the attitude to us even we came here so late and we spent so long for deciding and we end up w/​we need more time and come bk later, but he still nice and tell us he will not call you and rush you to make a decision. Unlike other sales man, they will definitely contact you until you tell them I bought another car in somewhere else, I had that experienced before.
Trust me, if you are looking for a Volvo, come to Mckevitt volvo and asking for Scott, he will provides the best customer Service to you and you will feel the passions that he has, and you will also feel like he does care about how do you like the car more than ‘he needs to sell the car to you’. Hope this review help! it was the best car buying expericed I ever had.

Tried to buy a car here, but evidently we didn’t have what it takes to be a McKevitt customer. Waited a couple of minutes for someone to acknowledge us and then were told to wait for a salesman. Took about 10 minutes for someone to come and show us the car we were inquiring about. We had to ask the salesman to unlock the doors for us so that we could see the interior of the car. Realizing that we were, in fact, the two most boring people on earth, we took pity on the salesman, thanked him, and left. He didn’t even offer us his card.

My husband and I had decided on a new Volvo to replace the family hauler. We’re tough customers — cynical about car sales tactics but also passionate drivers who race for fun. I wanted to find a Volvo dealer who made me feel good about «joining the Volvo family.» I came to the right place.
By way of disclosure, I’m also employed by a niche, super advanced little company in the R&D end of auto tech, so I’m horribly snobby about embedded systems and Infotainment. I knew that Volvo was building excellent systems so I was hoping to find a purchase experience to match the tech and safety «cred» of the car maker. I was preparing to be disappointed but then…
Enter, Scott Thompson. Smart, careful, patient, very knowledgeable and totally transparent on purchase terms. Scott conducted six (!) test drives for us in the hills above San Leandro. What a blast — we drove everything except the vaunted XC90 (too big for our needs). The new Drive-​E engine series is a revelation. We loved the T6-R’s speed, yes — and those fun racy colors. But the «base» engine was so quick and light — like a jack rabbit on a taught suspension. I loved it.
Husband and I drove various iterations of the lovely, swift V60 wagon. I also tried out the elegant, smooth XC60. Then when we finally settled on the model we wanted (V60 wagon), we sent Scott «shopping» for us so we could get just the right color and options (this took some time — I was being indecisive — sorry Scott). Now, another salesman might have politely tuned me out in favor of easier customers. But Scott didn’t… He stuck with us, gave us a great TrueCar price, then rounded out the sale with rock-​bottom priced gap insurance and Volvo’s own financing (the former is useful if you’re going skinny on the downpayment, but dealers often mark it up ridiculously. Scott did not). We had planned to use our trusty credit union, but Volvo had solid financing numbers so we went with Volvo
If you’ve been burned by car salesmen, or just feel the whole system of new car sales is icky, or rigged or wrong, I’d urge you to meet Mr. Thompson and the other fine folks at McKevitt. They haven’t paid me to say any of this. I just feel they deserve some love for treating a buyer with respect for her intelligence and patience to let her kick a lot of tires — and hooboy, did I. I’ll upload a photo I snapped of Scott and hubster at paperwork time. (I’m behind the camera fondling my Caspian Blue V60).

I’m a regular customer at McKevitt and want to recommend their dealership and parts/​service departments. They truly go beyond the call of duty to assist you and really make sure their customers have a positive experience. Steve in Sales is genuine, kind, and especially helpful. Ask for him!

Yes! I was surprised they did a great job on my Brides [240-​DL-​wagon] car, she was [is] very happy with the performance, after the repair.

This review is based upon my car buying experience only as I have not dealt with the service team. I was very impressed with the service the sales team offered and did buy a car from them while also trading-​in my truck which they offered a very fair price for. I wanted a very specific car with a unique package & color options which made the experience more impressive as they searched nationally for the car, finally finding it in Michigan.
I would definitely give them a shot if you are in the market for a car & would not hesitate to come back in the future.

Amazing service here, as we just purchased a 2015.5 Volvo XC60. Hubby and I tried out SF Volvo, and the salesman there made virtually no effort to find the car we wanted (which was a basic model with a basic package, no special requests). Friends of ours had recently purchased the same car and recommended we see Scott here at McKevitt, as he got them a very fair deal for the car they wanted. Scott did the exact same for us and we drove away with our new car 3 days after seeing him for the first time. Another bonus: I traded in my 08 Yaris and got a pretty good deal considering I didn’t have to do ANY work to sell it. Had I done it on my own, probably wold have gotten a few hundred extra dollars, but for hours worth of work posting ads, meeting with people, possibly missing work, etc. Really top-​notch experience!

My service writer, Craig K., is the best service writer in the history of service writers. I have never owned a Volvo but I still bring my vehicles here to be serviced because of the wonderful service provided by Craig. After each service my car is fully detailed by an young man, I believe his name is Dominic. He puts in a bunch of effort and hard work into washing my vehicles. I can’t say enough how impressed I am with the service provided by these two fine gentleman. Volvo is lucky to have them as employees.

I did not buy a car here but I received such great customer service and responsiveness from Kurt Russel I felt compelled to write a review. Kurt was so helpful and really worked to try and meet our particular needs. which were a little picky! If your car shopping I would check in with Kurt and see what he can do for you. He is for sure committed to that process! And very straightforward!

My wife and I came to Mckevitt to look at a used car that they advertised. When we got there everything was quiet, almost to the point where we thought they were closed.
After a couple of minutes at looking, Kurt the salesman came out and showed us the vehicle.
The car was in great shape and Kurt was awesome to deal with. No pressure and no bs from Kurt.
They aren’t like any of the other typical overly busy car dealerships that run their customers through there like cattle on a ranch. Everything is nice and quiet and it wasn’t like we had to meet every manager that works there either. Kurt did everything and I mean all the documentation, financing and gassed the car up.

Had a horrible experience going there. But the GM reached out to me and appologized. As a former business owner I respect people who admit their mistakes and rectify it without making excuses. Too bad I already bought a car because I really really wanted a Volvo.

This 5 star experience is based on the good customer service I received today from Mike Mascote (Service Manager).
Mike was extremely polite, he made the experience painless and pleasurable not something I was expecting considering the type of service I have experienced with the service department of other dealerships.

WARNING they seem to be in the business of charging $$$ for incorrect diagnosis and over-​priced repairs — and don’t seem to care about their customers — would AVOID coming here — instead choose a reputable independent Volvo shop like Ackerman’s or Independent Volvo.
McKevitt Volvo is representative of why Volvo is a declining brand. As a automotive industry professional I know a thing or two about cars. I brought a V70 which had an immobilizer issue to them for a friend who needed help with it.
They instead told him that the fuel pump was bad and cost $ 978 to replace. I went there the next day and got the key. The car started right up and I drove it around for 15 minutes it drove perfectly.
Looks like the fuel pump magically fixed itself. Computer diagnostics on my OBD2 scanner had only a p1630 code for immobilizer.
When I asked to speak to tech who diagnosed I was told he was «not in today.» Service writer said it was «not his problem» so I asked for the general manager who said «take the car we don’t need your business.»
They won’t have it.

Long overdue review! I need to say THANK YOU to Brad in customer service! Brad helped me with tracking down my equip order, and made my transaction seemless! Thanks Brad!

Let me start by saying if I could leave no stars, I would. My partner and I came into McKevitt Volvo knowing exactly what we wanted as we had done thorough research. We had even visited another dealership and drove the vehicle we were interested in purchasing. After driving 2 vehicles from McKevitt, Jim Hurst drew up an offer for us. We left the dealership and said we would think about the offer as it wasn’t very attractive to us as it was.
After some negotiation, we settled on a price. I knew I would be car shopping and have near perfect credit and was pre-​approved through my credit union for a car loan, so we were all set to go. That evening we came back into the dealership with our young kids and we sat there and filled out the paperwork for the vehicle. We put a down payment down and then Jim said there was an issue with the loan since he couldn’t contact the credit union (it was 7:30 pm on a sunday and the next day was a bank holiday). We agreed to come back and finish the transaction after he was able to contact my credit union for the loan details. He told me he’d let everyone know to not sell the vehicle, that it was ours and that he wouldn’t even let anyone show it.
Today (less than 24 hours after we left our down payment), he told me my CU was closed but he had me approved elsewhere with different terms. Unfortunately those terms put us at monthly payments that were outside of our comfort level (which we had previously discussed with Jim) so we said we wanted to wait until my CU was open tomorrow.
I got a TEXT from him this afternoon saying that they can’t hold a vehicle more than 24 hours (I’m not even getting into the poor math skills involved here) so they sold it to someone else.
He had my $ 1500 and I had his word that the vehicle was ours.
Needless to say, I was unwilling to consider buying another vehicle there. Your word is your bond and apparently the stereotype is true, car salespeople are lying scum.
Thanks for a disappointing experience, Jim, and for wasting our time. I highly suggest going just about anywhere else to buy a volvo, even if it means a 1 – 2 hour drive.

This review is not indicative of McKevitt Volvo’s overall service, but specific to an extremely poor experience I had with Jim Hurst. I was pretty much set on getting a Volvo S60 due to a new baby and after combing through Bay Area’s inventory, McKevitt had the one on the lot I wanted.
Jim is not a bad car salesman, bad in the definition being the kind where you ask yourself if a sleezeball make a good car salesman or selling cars make you a great sleezeball. Indifference is the more appropriate word to describe his persona. I don’t know, maybe Volvos are flying off the shelves there, giving him leverage to not care whether he sells a car or not. The indifference I can tolerate, since I was not looking for a lifelong friendship. The INCOMPETENCE, however, I have very little patience for.
It is sad when a sale is lost due to logistics. Not negotiation, not poor credit, but utter lack of ability to get the paperwork done or work the computer system. The conquest offer didn’t apply to a lease (which he didn’t know about until later). Okay, fine, rework the number and let me know what it is. I’m open to figuring out the numbers as I’m not going to argue about an offer that doesn’t apply to me. Almost 1.5 hour later, came to me saying a $ 1500.00 credit will change monthly from ~$ 400.00 to ~$ 800.00.
Really? How DID he get that number? Ahh… he still couldn’t get whatever software they use going and he basically threw a number out there. Asked if I can come back the next day…
Well, Mr Jim Hurst, can you learn how to use your computer overnight? Given my observation during the past 4 hours, I will place my bets elsewhere.
That was a Friday. On Saturday, I drove off the lot an A4 from Audi Oakland.
