Joseph Cheng MD

I visited Dr. Cheng twice in January and February of 2016. I had knee replacements on both knees; but had problem with the left knee. I wanted to get a second opinion and was referred to Dr. Cheng. He checked my bone scan and X-​Ray, he also asked for a blood test. At the most recent visit, he told me my knee may have some irritation but nothing to worry about. He released me on that day February 12, 2016. I was concerned about long-​term use of Celebrex, a nonsteroidal anti-​infammatory drug for pain relief. He told me to gradually reduce its use. Dr. Cheng is very personable, very kind. I am glad to have chosen him to get a second opinion.

I have been seeing Dr. Cheng since 2009, he is a really good surgeon who is always going above and beyond to do the right thing.
I saw him Today and I wanted to share the wonderful things About Dr. Cheng. How even though after long surgeries and long days he greets you with a family friendly smile. He Asks about your family remembers who they are and how important they are to you and sincerely cares about you as a person first.
I know he has helped thousands of people including athletes and professonals with their knees and shoulders and other joints but when he’s with you treating you he has your best honest intrest at heart and in hand. The honesty is the single most appreciated thing I have experienced with the good Doctor. Also, he has very nice staff who work hard and I’ve come to rely on them every month.
So get yourselve over and see Dr. Cheng first before you see or use any other doctor, truely you’ll see.
So this comes with my highest regards that I recommend to you Dr. Joseph Cheng.

Seriously the worst ever. He seemed more interested in complaing about Obama care then worrying about anything else. I would think he would leave the politics at home or in the back office. I am sorry but I he did not help me at all.

I was seriously injured at work several years ago, was lucky to be referred to Dr Cheng, workers comp fought my case the whole way yet Dr Cheng continued to treat me and do the needed surgeries, he is an amazingly talented surgeon who truly cares about his patients and actually builds friendships with them, he has done 3 surgeries on me and all turned out great, he is not only a great surgeon but he is the type of doctor who takes the time to really get to know his patients needs, he listens, my thanks to Dr Cheng and Staff

Best decision I ever made. After years of bad shoulder pain I turned to Dr. Cheng and soon will be without pain. So thankful.

Dr. Chang for me is one of the best in the bay area. I have been with many other doctors and never received the welcoming dr. Chang gives. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a Medical Doctor. He has done 5 surgies on me and all of them have be successful operations.

To date, I’ve had two shoulder surgeries and numerous consults (other body parts) with Dr. Cheng. In the 3 – 4 years that I’ve been a patient in his office, I’ve suffered through a very complicated medical history (unrelated to Dr. Cheng’s treatment). Despite the fact that other physicians have turned me away due to my complex medical history, Dr. Cheng has helped me through every diagnosis in a professional and caring manner.
First thing a perspective patient should know about Dr. Cheng is that he will always be truthful and thorough. He wants you to understand what’s happening with your body and he takes the time to tell you.
Secondly, he’s not the type of physician to throw pills at your injury. Most physicians/​surgeons I’ve seen want to rush me to surgery or put me on meds. I promise that he will not schedule unnecessary surgeries or over-​medicate you.
Third, he’ll let you know what you should reasonably expect from treatment. I love this because I’ve had surgeons tell me that my knees/​shoulders would feel great post-​op only to find that I’ve increased the likelihood of worsening arthritis or other issues.
In summary, Dr. Cheng comes highly recommended by me and the friends that I’ve referred to him.

First review? Really?
I was referred to Dr. Cheng because my GP, the other Dr. Cheng (his sister, apparently), thought I should see a specialist for my badly sprained ankle. Over the course of a month, I made two visits here and just got the all-​clear at today’s appointment.
The front office staff is really nice and they made special accommodations for my first visit. I was miserable and needed something in my situation to change so I could be more comfortable and be able to function at work and home. They kept the office open a little later than usual and fit me in their schedule.
Dr. Cheng checked out my x-​rays, tested my range of motion, asked about pain, and made his diagnosis. Afterwards, he listened to my concerns and needs, and offered possible solutions. Unlike other doctors I have seen in the past, he didn’t make me feel rushed and really wanted to understand my situation. It felt like we were a team tackling my stubborn sprained ankle. In the end, he fitted me for a walking cast and set me up for a plan that helped me go from crutches + walking cast, to one crutch + walking cast, to just the walking cast.
Although most of my recovery should be attributed to my physical therapist, Dr. Cheng was an instrumental player in getting me the walking cast that allowed me to return to work and be more productive around the house until I was well enough to put more force on my ankle.
He’s very personable and took an immediate interest in what I was doing with my life. I’m young and it was almost like he wanted to take on a parental role — encouraging me to pursue an MD. He’s a very chatty guy that will talk your ear off, but he really does care!
Overall, I was happy with my experience and would like to thank him and his office staff!
