I have been in the Refrigeration business since I was a little kid. My father and uncle started Quality Air Conditioning and heating in Oakdale, Calif back in the 1960’s so I have over 30 years experience. I have been working here in the Bay area since 1991. First as a service tech then as owner of American Refrigeration. When asked, I will provide references.

I hired Mike of Hartsog Corporation American Refrigeration to build a walk-​in combination freezer and cooler approximately 23×11 feet. The walk-​in looks and works great. His installation charges were very reasonable compared to others I found when I shopped around. Mike is very experienced, knowledgeable about electrical, refrigeration, and all things mechanical. He is super nice and reliable. I recommend him 100%.
A followup: Mike went the extra mile for us to trouble shoot a problem that arose when when of the compressor switches failed. Fortunately it was under warranty, but Mike came back a few times to make sure everything was running well, and calibrated. Mike will be the first one I call for any service.

I met with Mike and he seems a very nice guy. He gave me a verbal quotation on my walk-​in cooler doors. 2 weeks later, he gave me a written estimate for three times higher than the initial one. If he had that much experience as he claimed, how could the estimates be so far away from each other? After I asked for little affordable doors, he came back 2 weeks later with half off verbal estimate. So I wanted to proceed but he never came back nor returned my call. After spending about 6 weeks trying to get hold of him, I finally decided to give up. I am glad I didn’t sign up the contract with him because that would be the last thing I want for him to start the work and never come back to finish the job.

After enduring the hard sell from the Home Depot A/​C rep. and another from a local A/​C service company, I searched the internet to find the A/​C that scored the highest in owner reviews. (

The Arcoair, webpage listed Mike’s company, I phoned and talked to Katie, Mrs. Hartsog. 510 278‑1200. In a few moments, Mike was able to give me an estimate over his cell phone. He came over right away with his apprentice Richard and located the supplier of the proper unit to replace my old one.

He advised me that I could have repaired my old one, but would save by replacing the new one which does a better job of cooling. What a surprise to hear that when the other two told me that I would have replace the A/​C and furnace units.
They did a very thorough job of installing the unit. They were absolute gentlemen and I am pleased to give them a very good review.
By the way I learned the Arcoair is made in the USA. The same units have other brand names, but all are first rate. I got a one year warranty on the unit and on the work.
