I’m in Mod 2 of the training now and I can say I really like how they programmed the lesson and set it up.
Everyone very friendly and willing to help out one another with any problem as best they can.
You learn Business Communication, Profession Skills, and Tech. They are very useful for when you’re going into a work environment and the staff/​advisers there will help you hone your skills to give you an advantage than the others who will be competing you for the job.
They’re always trying to improve the system for the students consistently for current and future students.

Throughout the years ever since growing up I was always working. From age 14 I was working at Great America to help what I could to my family. Then Hot topic and Security. All these while attending school. As I noticed part time school and full time work was a slow pace to jump start my career. I had many opportunities and I’m glad I took the one call that changed my life. The call from Rodney and my entrance to confirm my acceptance to Year Up. I have always wanted to attend a vocational school, but never qualified for financial aid causing me to not be able to go to one. I compare Year Up to vocational schools because its fast paced. You are stomped with deliverables, and having a full time job is merely impossible especially to squeeze gym time in. Year Up has brought my confidence up from all the presentations we have done. Basically you are looking at 5 months of school with young professionals. 5 months of a ton of work, so I would suggest to focus on Year Up and build yourself part time jobs can wait because a career is worth more. I have spoke about Year Up to many individuals including co workers in my company in Amazon. After 5 months of Learning and Development (school) you are placed randomly on an internship where the instructors best believe you will fit. I was placed in Facebook for 6 months as an AV/​VC Operations Technician. Facebook was a great internship and although I didn’t get hired due to budget reasons I believe it made a great impact on me. I have learned a ton about AV and now I’m working at Amazon as an AV Engineer.

Year Up is an amazing place to be. Without getting into Year Up, I wouldn’t have been able to change so much in the few weeks that I’ve been here. I used to be so shy, but after working for two years to get passed the door and into the training rooms to learn amazing things. I’m super excited to continue onto my internship and see where it all takes me!

Year Up is an intensive 11-​month tech training program that incorporates 5 months of training and 6 months of internship at a tech company in Silicon Valley. The staff are extremely helpful, the community is very growth-​driven, and the courses are fast-​paced and competitive. Year Up is an amazing program that has literally changed my life, and getting accepted into Year Up is the best thing that has happened to me so far.
Before Year Up, I was taking classes at a community college without really knowing how I would transition forward; Year Up gave me that opportunity. From Business Communications to Pro Skills, Year Up has you covered on how to network and interact with executives in big companies like Google and Facebook (which you get to do frequently); meanwhile, the Software Development class and the Troubleshooting & Tech Support class ensures that you are competent in programming and troubleshooting when you get to the internship phase.

As a current trainee here at Year Up I can honestly say it has been a blessing. Before Year Up I was stuck in Community College not knowing what to do and where to go in life. Now I am being guided through the right path onto a good career. I’ve became more aware of my growth areas and strengthen my strengths. I learned that feedback goes a long way in improving myself as a person and a professional. Have you ever heard that the only was nowadays to get a good job is ‘it’s not about what you know its about who you know”. Year Up will teach you what you need to know what’s out there in the corporate world and network you with people in companies that could possibly get your foot in the door for a job. So applying it to the quote, it’s a win-​win situation. My time here at Year Up my networks have expanded and my public/​social skills have improved. I highly recommend Year Up for everyone looking for a better a opportunity.

I’ve gone to Evergreen College, San Jose City College, Heald College, and I have to say going to Year Up is the best choice I made for my self and my family. This 11 month program realliy pushes you to levels that you didnt even think you had. Its nothing like community college where you are just a person, here you are a member of a group of people that share the same goals as you do. Literally the BEST thing that’s happened to me so far. Before Year Up, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do or what career path I should take. Now as an IT trainee, I finally feel like my life has a direction. While experiencing these courses, such as Business Communications and Professional Skills, I’ve found my niche! I know what I am great at, and I thank Year Up for making me realize all the value I have as a young professional.
I highly recommend anyone who is interested in a career in the Tech field, especially those who are from the Silicon Valley, to give Year Up a shot. You may find yourself like I did. They equip you with the skills you need to take on internships as an IT, Help Desk, Project Management, etc., so there is something for everyone! Year Up is a great way to get your foot in the door to big name companies like eBay, Google, and Facebook.
But what I love most about Year Up, is that they pride themselves on closing the Opportunity Divide. People who come from different backgrounds, different races, and different cultures will have an equal chance to make it in Corporate America. Before I applied for Year Up, I was going to school part-​time and working full time as a server. Although I had been in school for a while, I still wasn’t sure about what I wanted to do career-​wise. I felt stuck, similar to a dead end in the road. I first found out about Year Up through a friend in Class 13. He was also in a similar situation as me and I watched him grow and mature so quickly that I had to check out what he was doing.
Literally, my life has changed since I joined Year Up. I know it sounds corny, but this program has motivated me to work my butt off and bring my best self to training everyday. I am so thankful for this organization and its staff. The help you get from staff and colleagues is on another level, and everyone genuinely wants you to succeed. This IT internship program has helped me re-​image my future into something I can be proud of.
Year Up is an incredible opportunity. It’s probably the best kept secret in SV, but we don’t want it to be a secret! Tell everyone you know who could benefit from a program like this! This program is too good to be true, except it’s true! Before Year Up, I was living paycheck-​to-​paycheck and hoping something would fall into my lap and my life would be transformed. I heard about Year Up from a friend and was accepted into the program. There is a lot of work and they challenge you and push you outside of your comfort zone, but they also provide multiple forms of support and help facilitate a safe environment. The staff here does a fantastic job building a community for the students that is warm and inviting and provides constant feedback that helps shape you into a professional. Year up is a program that has completely reshaped my entire life. i highly recommend this program for any ambitious and hard working individuals that would like to take charge of their life.

Year Up has changed my perspective on life. I heard about it through a friend and couldn’t help but to think it was a scam. Why would anybody pay to teach me all the skills I need to be successful and then place me in a six month internship? It just doesn’t make sense, but its not a scam.
Before Year Up I was working full time at a dead end job trying to support myself while going to school part time. I had no Idea when I was going to graduate or even what I would major in. I am now proud to say that I am a member of the Year Up SV family. I joined Year Up not knowing what to expect like many but forged ahead. I am currently in my internship phase at Google as a Supplier Manager /​Support Technician, and I can honestly say the skills I learned at Year Up helped me to increase my teams productivity within the first week. The staff and instructors push you and have high expectation and are willing to assist you all the way. However, it is the drive and the desire to succeed they have instilled within me that I am now more able to secure a brighter future for myself.

The Year Up program is the best youth and career development program that I have seen. I’m personally familiar with a half-​dozen former foster youth that entered the program with minimal career focus and very unstable outlooks for their futures. Each of them successfully completed the program and landed a job on a career track and paying a living wage.
The program has high expectations and high support, which is exactly what young adults need and deserve. When this is combined with practical skills training, the young people can add their grit and determination, which results in an effective addition to any workforce.

Year Up! What can I say about the program that won’t make it seem like they paid me. Well, I will try, but if I so sound like an infomercial, it’s because the program is that good.
I started the program in March 2013. Before the program, I had your usual regular job. I worked at In-​N-​Out for 5 years and bounced around from job to job thinking I could find one I can turn into a career, but had no luck. And then… this program appears from out of no where in my hometown of San Jose. It was like a dream.
This program challenged me to grow, personally and professionally. They have taught me that I am capable of more than just a job of servitude. I am capable of a real job in corporate America. Because of Year Up, I have more confidence in what I speak and think. Because of Year Up, I have a great job at Facebook that can turn into a career. Because of Year Up, I now have the opportunity to have my job pay for my schooling. Because of Year Up, I no longer flip burgers and cook fries for a living and that is WINNING to say the least.
Sign-​up for this program if you are tired of whatever obstacle is in front of you and you are ready for a change. Sign-​up for this program if you know you deserve better and have the drive and motivation to pursue that dream.
And FYI — this program is NOT easy. They will challenge you to the point of no return. But at the same time, they will support you in all you endeavors until the very end.

As a current member of Year Up Bay Area, I would have to say that Year Up is a program like no other. It is aimed to educate young adults ages 18 to 24 in fields such as IT, Professional Skills, and Business Communications. Year up allows its students to really narrow in on their passion for technology and learn the right skills needed to be successful in the workplace. As someone who has taken some college courses, I can honestly say I have never had better instructors than the ones at Year Up. The instructors have a true passion for what they do and are genuinely interested in helping their students succeed. One of the most astonishing parts about Year Up is their corporate partnership. Year Up is partnered with big named companies such as Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, and countless others. Utilizing these partnerships, Year Up provides its students with a six-​month internship at one of the many corporate partners.
I recommend Year Up for any young adult looking to make a change and a program that can put them in the right direction towards a promising career.
