I’ll admit it, I was mistaken at first when I went to try WOW Bun Truck at Mobile Cafeteria in San Mateo. I was thinking that the folks over at WOW Silog Truck came out with their own variation of Chairman Bao. I had no idea it would be a Vietnamese Truck selling bun noodle plates. I guess in the end it worked out OK though because it was chilly that night and I needed something hot and they had just the right dish to woo me over. Beef Stew Bohko with French Baguette at Mobile Cafeteria San Mateo ( ) This really hit the spot because it was one of the only few dishes that chilly night that was hot and comforting. While the beef was cooked well, the sauce was a little lacking in flavor. It was one of their specials for the night, so you may or may not see this on their menu if you ever see them. Worth a try though. I guess my disappointment came from being lost in translation. It accidentally built up my craving for steamed buns and I ended up getting confused when i walked up to see their menu. I’ll have to give them another go in the future if they stop by the peninsula again. Their Bun Noodle Plates looked interesting!

Had their chicken banh mee today at Ft Mason. It tasted stale and fishy. The chicken was stringy and tough. Way off. I threw half of it away. Great service though. Plus props for the fresh coconut juice. I hope for their sake this was an off day, because… yuck.

I guess the WOW folks are doing well. I was already a fan of their corned beef silog tacos. So when I saw their truck today I thought I would get some. The surprise was it wasn’t the Silog truck. It’s the WOW Bún Truck! Bún as in the Vietnamese vermicelli noodles… got the broken rice dish with the fried egg and a bag of house made shrimp chips. Pretty tasty. Im still hankering for corned beef silog but it’s good to see the biz is expanding.
