Underground Dining At Naglee Park

I feel so privileged to have had this dining experience. Phillipe and Byron are impeccable hosts/​chefs and offer an intimate, elegant, comfortable, memorable and extraordinary dining experience! The food is as beautifully presented as it is delicious. It is a fine dining experience that is truly worthy of its namesake. An extraordinary, romantic, classy and deliciously creative dining experience.
I have never experienced such a unique dining experience until now — at Underground Dining in Naglee Park with Philipe and Byron. A friend organized the event (she works at Adolescent Counseling Services) for a December birthday and holidays celebration. Every detail was tended to for our party of 10 from beginning to end. From the appetizers to every dish that was carefully crafted to perfection to wine and water that kept coming, the meal was truly special.
Philipe provided high-​caliber hospitality as he brought out dish after delectable dish, providing explanations of each dish’s influences. I was also floored to find that he moonlights as the executive director of the non-​profit Adolescent Counseling Services which helps thousands of youth in need annually. Both Philipe and Byron shared funny stories with us throughout the night as they brought out the dishes. I got the sense they were not only passionate about the art of dining but also humble and authentic about their approach. At the end they brought out an amazing warm/​cold pear dessert lit with a candle for each birthday girl. The menu changes so I’ve included pictures but you may get something totally different. Payment is handled before hand so no worries about it after the meal. Donations to the charity are encouraged but they are by no means overly pushy about it. And why not support such a worthy cause?
I hear they are booked for 12 months out so do make sure you get on the list and be patient. It is well worth it.

Absolutely incredible. I would put this above the French Laundry on my list of top dining experiences. It’s that caliber of food, but in a fun, informal setting with a bunch of affable people that you get to know, very gracious and funny hosts, great wine that gets passed around, and no thoughts about a titanic bill coming at the end of the meal. Unsurprisingly, they’re booked up for the next six months with private parties, but they’re opening up a somewhat shorter 20 seat meal on Wednesdays, so availability might improve somewhat. Get on their mailing list to be alerted to openings (they fill up within a few minutes, so you have to be on your toes…)

This was one of the top three dining experiences I’ve had in the South Bay. I attended a birthday party for a friend who’s wife requested an all pork menu. One of the amuse bouche was a poached quail egg with bacon bits from a producer that supplies goods to the French Laundry, it was sublime when offered a second round we all went for it. It was very nice not to have extra servers running around. Philipe and Byron are both affable, and courteous guy’s, its clear that they are not in it for their ego and they truly understand the essence of hospitality.

I’m not sure how word of this gem isn’t already out on Unilocal.Dinner at Underground Dining at Naglee Park was hands down the BEST dining experience I’ve ever had and an incredible deal for the quality you’ll receive. I would return even if they raised the suggested donation by 50%. Incredible!
