History

Established in 2006.

TrioSpa is truly a «Mom & Pop» operation. They started their business out of a Barn House in Santa Clara in 2006. For three years, they operated there with their Massage, Facials and Waxing services. In 2009, they moved to a slightly larger treatment room on The Alameda and have recently expanded to include another treatment room. They now do Special Events, Spa Parties, Health Fairs, Corporate Work and have been asked to do Girls Night Out Events for KGO and at Santana Row.

Ed & Kathy love their work and have acquired a TEAM of therapists (male & female) as a way of expanding their services to offer specialized work for just about any type of request.

They hope to continue to grow into three treatment rooms and an adjacent classroom for Yoga/​Stretching/​Meditation and other classes to offer their clients. Time will tell!

Edward R. Cefalu, Nationally Certified Massage Therapist

Ed completed his professional training as a Massage Therapist and Health Educator at the National Holistic Institute in San Jose, CA. He is currently a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and is Nationally Certified by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NTBTMB). Ed’s areas of specialty are in his ability to integrate multiple massage modalities in any given session to «systematically» address each of his clients needs and goals.

Kathy Cefalu, Licensed Esthetician

Kathy completed her professional training as an Esthetician at Marinello Schools of Beauty in Santa Clara, CA. She is currently a member of the Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP) and is Licensed by the state of California. Kathy’s areas of specialty include full body waxing and skincare of the face and back. The goal of her practice is to educate her clients about healthy skin care.

TrioSpa is hard to locate but once you find it you won’t go anywhere else. I mean it. I’m a huge fan of Brittany’s massages. She personalizes to my needs and does amazing work on my sore shoulder, neck and back muscles. Certainly a professional.
Sara is my go-​to for waxing. She’s extremely attentive and professional.

UPDATED POST: As per her message below, Kathy invited me back for a session with her. This time everything was perfect — she paid close attention to my eyebrows, using only hard wax and tweezers, making sure they were just right. The other service was also excellent — quick and easy.
I really appreciate Kathy’s dedication to ensuring her clients are happy, and I am upgrading my rating as a result. I will be back!
ORIGINAL POST: Had a good waxing appointment with Sarah today! For the entirety of the appointment she was very attentive and considerate — asking me if the wax was the right temperature, pressing on my skin to ease the nerve sensitivity, and more. I really appreciate that the spa uses hard wax.
My only qualm is that instead of plucking of my eyebrows, the service provided was with soft wax which sent my eyebrows into havoc the next few days. I’m unsure I’ll be back.

I saw their esthetician for a facial and wax. Had a great experience! She is super professional, friendly, and meticulous. She describes the whole process and makes sure you are always comfortable.

Nicole and Jules were wonderful. My husband and I got a couples massage; a prenatal massage and a regular one. The massages were so good we both fell asleep. We will definitely be coming back!

I visited this spa for the first time and got a custom pumpkin facial from Kathy. She took the time to discuss the options with me first, and I liked her efficiency and knowledgeable explanations before we soon got to the actual facial. She has a nice touch, and I was very satisfied with the results. The spa is in an older house — very nice ambience and supremely comfortable (warming bed and nice fresh linens). I think her prices are comparable to other spas. I’ll be back!

I recently coordinated my company to use TrioSpa at a staff appreciation event we threw and the experience was wonderful! I must admit when I first called them the notice was quite short but Ed almost immediately got back to me and with his and Kathy’s kind help we were able to reserve exactly what we wanted in no time at all. Miriam, Truong & Eric were the massage specialists that worked the event. They were extremely professional, clean, and efficient; the best part was how at ease and relaxed they made the staff feel through the entire massage process. TrioSpa even provided a free raffle with great prizes as well as coupons for the entire staff! I would highly recommend TrioSpa and will absolutely be using them for future events! A huge thank you to the entire staff for making the day that much greater!

Great atmosphere and ambiance. I liked that the lady that massaged me didn’t talk much but just a little to make sure if I felt ok. She found a few knots on my left and was able to iron it out, but my right side has several but she was able to iron out some. I noticed that she was going really hard on my shoulders and I said «are u doing deep tissue?» She said yes and felt that I needed it. I wished that she would have warned me cuz she was goin hard as hell, but I still continued it cuz she was right… I needed it baaaad. However, I thot I would have felt relaxed and like a new woman, but I didn’t. The whole reason I did a massage was for me to feel relaxed. Although I did justify that I did need the deep tissue, so I gave this place a 4 out of 5. The next day, my skin hurt (which was to be expected), then the day after that, my shoulders were better, but not 100% (expected because I knew I needed another session). I will still go to this place because the atmosphere and ambiance, clean, lady was good, and they gave me some coupons for next visit. Also, if u check in on Unilocal,u will get a discount.

A little hidden gem on the alameda. The spa is appointment only, and a little difficult to find but the owner gives you clear directions when scheduling your appointment. I went in for a facial which was extremely relaxing and my skin felt great afterwards. The spa studio had a great ambience, very clean and calm. The owner gave me some great follow up advice on skincare after the service.

I was looking around for a good spa for my first facial. After a lot of research and Unilocal reviews, I found Trio Spa. Their reviews were great so I contacted them for an appointment and I was scheduled for the next day. When I arrived, I filled out a paper with a little bit of background on my skin care regimen. I explained to Kathy my areas of concern, she was very knowledgeable and very informative. I learned a lot by talking to her. She didn’t push products on me, and I never felt obligated to buy anything.
From start to finish, everything was PERFECT! I went ahead with the pumpkin peel facial. (smells great, and feels even better.) Kathy always asked if I was ok, and it was very relaxing. I had always heard about the dreadful extractions so I was a bit nervous, but they didn’t hurt at all. Kathy was always very professional and very down to earth. I cannot wait to come back again.

I will preface this review by saying I had decided long ago that I was not a massage person. I had always WANTED to like massages, as I get frequent tension headaches and take on the stress of modern living probably too psychosomatically, but try as I might I could not get myself to enjoy the 2 or 3 massages I had had before coming to TrioSpa. So I had decided that maybe massage just wasn’t for me — that maybe I didn’t like being naked under a blanket while a stranger touched me, or I couldn’t get my body to relax enough to enjoy the massage therapy. Regardless, a couple of weeks ago I was having a kiler headache and my body was screaming for some relaxation, so I looked up massage on Unilocal and found Trio. The reviews were great, I found the prices to be competitive, so I decided to go for it. Well, I was not disappointed to say the least! Dare I say it but I might finally be converted to massage.
Brittany C. was my massage therapist and she was easy to talk to and had a very approachable, sweet personality. It made it easy for me to ask my questions about the massage and establish my expectations. I even asked her, «Do you talk to your clients during the massage? Because I never know if I’m supposed to be quiet and relax, or if I’m supposed to make conversation.» [Yes, I KNOW I’m neurotic]. But she told me I could do whatever I preferred and I told her that I preferred not to talk, cause it would make me feel more relaxed. I also asked her if I could tell her where to focus her massage and she said of course — But I didn’t need to do that anyway because she knew exactly where the tension was! She has magic hands!
Anyway, all in all I had a wonderful, relaxing, muscle-​tension reducing experience, and Brittany even gave me some tips for dynamic stretching that I could do that might ease my pain. I will definitely be coming back! I wish I could make this a weekly habit but for now it will have to be for TreatYoSelf days! Thanks again TrioSpa.
PS — Booking was VERY easy. I did so by email and Kathy was very responsive (responding within 5 – 10 minutes). Also, parking is easy. There is a parking lot in front of the building that has plenty of spaces. At least it did when I went for my Saturday morning appointment.

Ed has been taking care of my stiff, stressed muscles for nearly 10 years, before he and Kathy created Trio Spa. Needless to say, he has many years of experience. I will admit my body posture is not proper, and I carry a lot of stress, from work, in my upper back and shoulders. This is compounded with a bicycle accident 30+ years ago. Ed has worked on those knots and scar tissue to where they are non-​existent, compared to a while back. We are now in maintenance mood, with an occasional urgency when I do some improper twisting.
On one recent occasion, Ed was not able to meet with me, so he referred me to one of his team members — Miriam. She has a different technique, but the results were the same = Relief from my back pain. Body parts that were misaligned immediately fell into place. Now I have two people I can really trust with my massage needs, and knowing Ed and his focus on quality, I have no doubt that everyone who works there is of the same caliber.
In general, Trio Spa is a warm comfortable place for a quality healing massage. Friendly staff who connect with the client and communicate during the massage, as much or as little as the client desires. Many times I have fallen asleep listening to the tranquil music. And that’s okay. Ed knows if I’m not talking, I’m close to snoring. The table is heated, and Ed has an additional heating pad that he uses to warm and loosen my back muscles. Ample of free off-​street parking is available in front of the building.
I have referred friends to Ed, who have in turn referred others. If we were not receiving quality care, we would not endorse this business the way we have.

My fiancé and I had a great experience at this place. The service was outstanding, and the 60 minutes massage therapy was extremely relaxing. We have been here at TrioSpa in September, and have our next appointment coming up second week of December! TrioSpa has a very cozy feel, and soothing atmosphere. The therapists are very professional too. Looking forward to our next session.

I had a great massage, but I’ve had such a long week (that’s why I needed one!), I cannot remember the therapist’s name :-(
I like medium pressure, which can be difficult for the therapist to determine, but she did it! And when it was too much pressure for my arms, she eased up right away.
Usually, I have a difficult time relaxing and releasing the tension in my body enough to fully enjoy a massage, but this time I didn’t. I just relaxed, and was kind of sad when it was over :-D
I had a great experience and would love to come back. Reasonably priced and high quality! If only I could remember the therapists name, I might request her :-(
Loved the facility too, it was clean and relaxing. Kind of hard to find at night though.

I went here with my boyfriend for a couples massage birthday gift a few weeks back. The place is very warm and friendly and located upstairs. We were greeted and asked to fill out a piece of paper that informed the masseuse what our targeted areas were to be.
My boyfriend liked massages that were more on the firm side, where as I liked mine on the medium side. We were paired up with two woman who matched each one of us perfectly!
I personally do not enjoy my time when a masseuse rubs me the wrong way-​too hard. I like my massage to be enjoyable with the pressure. The lady who conducted my massage was so nice! She told me prior to the massage to let her know if she could do anything to make my experience more enjoyable! She hit every spot with a gentle touch and kept my bed warm just how I liked it.
I have been to two other spas-​santana row and happy feet in Cupertino. I would say that this place is more enjoyable than those places and a decent price! I would defiantly go there again!
TIP: make sure you remember to bring cash for a tip (I wish I had more bills on me)

I have had the the Signature Facial by Kathy amazing… cannot wait to have the pumpkin peel and of course the couple massage.
