History

Established in 2004.

The Happy Hooligans (formerly Happy Bamboo) was opened in 2004 by a sweet lady named Binh until 2014, when she planned to quietly retire and close the restaurant. Customers Josh and Janice discovered her anonymous CraigsList posting of a «vegan restaurant for sale in Cambrian Park» and knew it was Happy Bamboo. They spent months planning with Binh, fundraising, creating new menu and décor ideas, and in May 2014, they were able to save it from closing.

Binh was offered more money by others who wanted to create their own restaurant but she chose Janice and Josh because they intended to keep her menu and modernize the restaurant, which was something she didn’t have the energy to do.

The restaurant has recently changed names to The Happy Hooligans due to customer feedback that «Happy Bamboo» suggested only Asian food rather than a place that offers many types of dishes.

Meet the Business Owner

Janice Josh and Jaden C.

Business Owner

We are a vegan family with a young son and two Persian cats. We are passionate about vegan food! We bought the restaurant in May of 2014 and have since dedicated our lives to building up the restaurant and creating dishes that exceed expectations of what vegan food can be.

We are the epitome of a «Mom n Pop» business– from daily ingredient shopping, cooking, staying late to clean, painting the walls or baking our own pies, etc… We do it all! And since we are always here, we have gotten to know the regulars and are proud to call them friends. We absolutely love working here!

In our private life, Janice is a musician, Josh is a photographer and young Jaden is a budding scientist. And our cats are… off somewhere being lazy.
