History

Established in 2013.

Sweets By Design, although officially started in 2013, has been in the works for years. The owner, Nicole, has been baking since she was a small girl, and comes from a long line of family bakers. With experience in art interior design, Nicole has an eye for color and aesthetics. Her love of design and love of baking have come together to create Sweets By Design, and she couldn’t be more thrilled. The highlight of each project is when she gets to see the joy on her customers face when the creation is revealed!

Our owner Nicole is passionate about creating unique, delicious works of edible art for her customers. An avid baker and designer, Nicole’s one rule here at Sweets By Design is a simple, yet powerful one — her creations MUST be delicious, as well as a sight to behold. From classic to cartoonish, modern to vintage, Nicole’s desire to go above and beyond her customer’s expectations is the goal — pure and simple.

When asked what the one thing was that Nicole would like to say to the Yelp audience, she quickly and replied, «I would like to tell everyone reading this that I can’t wait to meet you and help you come up with the „sweet dream“ that you’ve always wanted!»

I am so thankful that my sister in law told me about this place. I just celebrated my 30th bday and Nicole understood exactly what I was looking for! Not only that but she was amazing communicating with me both via e-​mail and also she called to check everything was good after I picked up the cake. And don’t even get me started on the taste of the cake! All my guests loved it! I ordered a vanilla buttermilk with chocolate filling and it was heaven! I myself bake cake for fun and enjoy it but wanted to make sure my 30th birthday cake was unforgettable and it was! I am totally going back to Nicole once another party happens! Highly recommended!

I had a vision for my mom’s 60th birthday cake and Nicole was very responsive, knowledgeable and quickly caught onto what I was exactly looking for. She hand held me through every detail and answered all my questions throughout planning and was extremely thoughtful and helpful.
On the day of she came to the venue to attach the flowers. My florist had concerns about the weight of succulents but Nicole assured me of her confidence level of attaching these flowers and when she put them on they were beautiful!
She is the type of cake designer I want to work with, especially for someone like who is a PLANNER down to the core. She’s awesome and super sweet! When she came to the venue, she knew exactly what to do and have quick advice about how she should attach flowers and everyone loved it.
One thing I was a bit bummed about was the white lace– it wasn’t as visible I wanted it to be. I hoped it would be more visual and larger but still a beautiful cake!

I ordered 200 sugar cookies with digitally printed logos for some company giveaways. The logo printing on the white chocolate discs were spot on (but apparently not done by this company). The cookies themselves were subpar at best. These weren’t cheap cookies, so I certainly expected a better flavor — didn’t really taste like a sugar cookie and a mealy texture. I reached out to the owner, but she didn’t offer a solution to my dissatisfaction.

I can vouch for the other reviewers who took points off for being difficult if not impossible to reach someone at this business. I called a couple of times and no one ever picks up the phone here. So I left a message to inquire about the timeline to place an order for my son’s second birthday. Maybe this place has gotten popular and is no longer interested in small orders such as these. But a simple phone call saying sorry we are backed up would be fine. No response whatsoever. Seeing this had happened to other reviewers and the owner sounded sincere in trying to apologize, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed that my message got lost in the shuffle again. Called again and left another message. Nothing. So here we are. An F on customer service 101, the very basics.

Nicole was fantastic to work with! I would recommend her to anyone looking for great custom cookie and cake design and artistry. She is super responsive and easy to work with. To the person who gave only one star for not being able to communicate with Nicole, it’s unfortunate because the cookies and cake she did for us were such a hit at our son’s birthday party.

Wow! All over a great experience. I ordered my son’s first birthday cake from Nicole. Since the moment that I contacted her she has been nothing but professional, friendly, and helpful. We recently had an 80’s-themed party to celebrate her 30th birthday, and I needed a custom cake that signified the right combination of creativity, fun, preparation, detail, and delicious-​ness. I researched many custom cake businesses in the local area via Unilocal,and based on the reviews, her responsiveness, and her enthusiasm for the 80’s idea, I wound up going with Nicole.
THIS WAS A VERY, VERY GOOD DECISION!
Nicole was a pleasure to work with, quickly understanding what my vision was and designing it according to that vision but with her own creative flair. Price was reasonable. Pick-​up was flexible and easy. Taste was outstanding! Our friends and family really dug the cake, but most importantly, so did Courtney. It enhanced the party, and made for a memorable photo. I could say more, but I’ll let the cake do the talking on this one. Big thumbs up!

Nicole did an awesome job on my cake! I was blown away she made the cake way better then I even expected. The cake was full of flavor and delicious my guest loved it! And the it was within my budget! I am very happy with the cake and I am definitely coming here again for my future cakes! Delivery was on time. Nicole was on point with everything really appreciate her services. It was a little hard to get a hold of Nicole when we would email back and forth but I completely understand she is super busy creating greatness! I definitely recommend buying her cakes! Hands down the best I’ve ever used!
Nicole was prompt, professional and made the cutest baby shower cake I have ever seen! We want with a chocolate/​chocolate chip and banana and vanilla bourbon and cherry cake! Cakes were moist and delicious! Thanks a million Nichole, I highly recommend her !!!

This review is long overdue! I ordered a cake from Nicole back in July. After tons of emails finding a business that could finish my cake in such a short notice and for a reasonable/​affordable price, I was able to find Nicole! Most of the places were asking for $ 150 – 400 or they were fully booked because it was wedding season, but I was able to get a 8″ circle cake of Sadness from Inside Out for $ 120. There was a smaller option (6″), but Nicole suggested that I order a bigger cake just so she could completely fit in the hair/​glasses of the character I wanted onto the cake itself.
I have never ordered a customized cake before so I was scared how it was going to turn out, but it ended up looking fantastic. And it also tasted great!
She had tons of options for the cake flavors. I went with the vanilla buttermilk cake with a Hawaiian chocolate debosh filling (I didn’t know what this even was but it sounded good!) and a chocolate frosting. She was also very quick with her responses and was able to set up a pick up time that worked for the both of us.
Would definitely order a cake from her again in the future. Thanks again Nicole :)

Nicole can do anything! She is so talented! I wanted a naked three tier cake for a bridal shower that was on Labor Day. She was the only one with great prices, great customer service and actually available on Labor Day. I sent her pictures I found on Pinterest of how I wanted this cake and she went above and beyond my expectations! Check out the picture I posted! I will for sure be going to Nicole for all my future desserts!

Nicole is very sweet and creative. We ordered a pocoyo cake for our son’s 4th bday and the design was very pretty. He loved it very much and was so happy to see it. We ordered a 2 tier cake with one tier red velvet and another tier as guava but she gave us both tiers as red velvet. Not a huge deal but our guests were a bit disappointed since they were looking forward to trying the guava. The cake was also dry. Overall we were happy with the design. Was just hoping it tasted better than it looked

Nicole did an amazing job with both our graduation cakes! Especially the Topsy Turvy Tim Burton cake… not only was it designed beautifully and uniquely, it was delicious as well. Her prices were reasonable, lots of flavors to choose from. Highly recommend Sweets By Design for any custom cake needs!

This review is almost a year overdue! I hired Nicole last year to design and make my daughter, Ariana’s 4th birthday cake. My daughter will soon be 5 and I will be contacting Nicole again once my daughter decides her theme.
Last year, I contacted multiple bakeries and was not impressed and never called them back. It was the price, design or just their customer service that steered me away.
Once I spoke with Nicole, I searched no further. I knew she was the one to hire. Not only was prompt and courteous, she was professional and her designs are unique. I told her my daughter’s theme choice (My Little Pony) and favorite character (Rainbow Dash) and that I wanted the rainbow layered cake. Nicole emailed me a few sketches of her unique designs. After reviewing, I was able to make minor adjustments. Although it was just a sketch, I was happy and excited.
Party day came along and we finally see the finished product. Boy was I impressed and my daughter was super happy with her cake. All our guests were fascinated with the beauty of it. I have recommended Nicole to my friends and family and will continue to do so… and I will be contacting her soon for my daughters 5th birthday cake.

We couldn’t be more happy with Nichole’s Minion’s cake !! It’s definitely a show-​stopper and attention getter, probably getting more attention than the birthday boy but he was completely fine with that :) At first we all felt a bit sad that we had to dissect this adorable little yellow creature. However, after the first bite, the guilt was gone. The Vienna Mocha flavor whit cinnamon buttercream is just beyond amazing ! (My friend tole me that the minion’s chocolate hair tastes really good as well, but since he’s almost bald, I didn’t get to eat any.)
And also I know it has been mentioned in the reviews a lot, but I have to say it again: Nicole is really talented and very very sweet !! We contacted her on such short notice and she did a fantastic job. But we did tell our friends who are interested in her cakes to order in advance and give her enough time !

I worked with Annette on my Philadelphia flyers birthday cake, given Nicole was busy with their move. We had a little miscommunication in the beginning, but that was due to their move and trying to juggle everything.
My entire order was done via email; providing a picture of what I wanted and then listing decoration /​flavoring details and delivery instructions.
Annette confirmed a few details a couple days prior and the cake was delivered to the restaurant on time and looked incredible. We went with chocolate on chocolate, which is usually a good standby and we were not the least bit disappointed.
Their pricing was about $ 50 less, then the other individuals listed on Unilocal. So, it was a great deal all around. Very happy with the cake, service and delivery.

Nicole is awesome! She is so talented and hardworking. Finding her on Unilocal,the reviews are legit! She’s a great listener and communicator, her designs are fantastic!
I have already recommended my close friends and co workers to her, the prices are VERY reasonable compared to other bakeries out there.
She asks for at least a week in advance for orders, delivery within the area is offered.
