SummerWinds Nursery – San Jose

I bought a Red Baron Peach tree from Summerwinds nursery almost a year ago and finally admitted defeat as my other peaches are already flowering. I took the dead tree in to Summerwinds and even though I could not find the receipt, because the original labels were intact, the Asst Store Manager Matt was kind enough to honor my purchase and gave me an exchange Red Baron. I was really touched to recognize that some of my old values of honesty and integrity are still espoused by a reputable nursery. I shall continue to buy my trees from here.

We bought a Nordmann fir tree from Summerwinds and it was the best tree we have had in over 15 years. Very fresh, they made a fresh cut, and we needed to provide water every two days for the last 10 days. Better looking and longer lasting than any tree we ever cut down live from a local Christmas Tree farm. We used to drive to Morgan Hill and cut down live ones, but this lasted better than any tree we have had in decades. Going to SummerWinds again nexy year! Staff was very helpful as well, and the price was good.

I came here to buy a birthday present for my mom. She’s mentioned she been wanting this exotic-​looking succulent that one of our neighbors had so I figured a nursery would be the place to go. I looked around and couldn’t find anything quite like it so I asked one of the staff for help. She was extremely helpful in walking me around the nursery to find what we were looking for. When she didn’t find anything like the plant, she even proceeded to search for it online to find the name of the plant and to see where we could find it. We ended up buying an agave plant that looked similar and my mom was ecstatic about her present. This is a great nursery with a variety of indoor and outdoor plants, home décor, greeting cards. The best part was that the staff was extremely friendly and helpful!

I love the people who work here AND it is a little oasis from the hectic world. Right next to Lake Almaden on Almaden Expressway, it is convenient for folks coming off of Hwy 85. If you know you want something, but don’t know exactly what, you’ll find LOTS of ideas just wandering around. That said, if you know what you want, you can find ways to improve upon your original idea here. Look for butterflies!

Friendly staff, nice parking, abundant selection. They have a lot of pollinators flying around which is nice.
My only complaint is that they aren’t very big on organics which is becoming more and more important. If you are looking for organic produce their selections are limited. I did find some organic strawberries and so far they are doing great!
I take away two stars for limited organic selection because it is most important to me. If I see them take organics up a notch or two i will happily update my review.

I ask if they can match prices and they told me, no! Didn’t like the customer service and the prices very high prefer to buy it in Amazon, I don’t think I’ll come back!

Summer Winds had everything I was looking for, and I got great help from a manager (I think her name was Kim) when I ran into a bit of a snag. I had been given incorrect information about their planting and delivery service by another employee. I only learned this when I was about to check out. Kim (hope that is the right name) figured it all out, got me the help I needed and made everything smooth again. It’s so nice to deal with a staff who gets customer service right! I would have given 5 stars but for the wrong information at the beginning.

Summer winds is my go-​to greenhouse in San Jose. They’ve got a great selection of flowering plants and shrubs and a selection of heirloom vegetables too. Prices are reasonable and the staff quite knowledgeable and helpful

I love to come to this indoor and outdoor nursery. There are so many varieties of flowers, plants, trees, pots, etc. The customers service are very friendly. I’m here to look for some plants for my backyard. They help me find want I need.

Good selection, decent prices, plenty of plants and flowers to choose from, expert advice… I like it!

My first time at a nursery to purchase my first plant! Got a nice little succulent at Half Moon Bay, only to find better ones here for cheaper! The workers here are really friendly, and found a succulent expert who helped me pick out a pot and how to take care of it.
Spent a good amount of money and time and it added up quickly! Will come back for more plants if I don’t kill my succulents!

Love Summer Winds Nursery! We came here looking for a few indoor plants. The collection was way nicer and extensive than the location in Sunnyvale. The people are a lot friendlier too. One of my guys who work there came by and asked me what I was looking for, and gave me a few suggestions. Ended up walking away with a couple of indoor plants.

Everything here is actually super expensive, something I just don’t really get. A small stone bird would be like $ 10. I would suggest not looking at the cute little decorations inside since they’re all overpriced but you just… want them all.
The perennials were the ones that caught my eye the most, since I’m more interested in flowers that come back every year. They’re about $ 4.99 a decent sized pot, I think it’s a pretty good price.
There are a bunch of flowers and herbs around here, I suggest only coming here if you’re not in a hurry. You may be spending more than 30 minutes looking at everything. They also have things to kill pests and other useful gardening tools. I also think it’s a bit overpriced.
Overall, if you want to liven up your garden, come here and just buy a bunch of perennials for $ 5 bucks each.

This is a good chain nursery. Woolworths Garden Centers which in there own right were good nurseries. You will see that the plant selection is slightly better than Home Depot.

Summerwinds was the scene of a spectacular fire that happened at night a couple years ago. Pesticides and fertillizers were involved, and flames colored green, blue and purple shot through the air. The fire department allowed the fire to burn so groundwater wouldn’t be contaminated. When I got up in the morning, it smelled like someone set off a ton of fireworks. I live several blocks away. For a while you could see burnt plants in pots – plant that survived but were partly melted/​charred. The business was set up in tents for a while here, but now the building is rebuilt. I like the fact this place is close to my house. The vegetable and fruit plants are easy to find in groups, and there are lots of different varieties of peppers and tomatoes here — great for all your salsa and kimchi needs! The potted flower plants are also very beautiful. The selection of seeds is also very good.

I always shopped at this nursery prior to the fire, and was happy to see it rebuilt and back up and running. The place is just not the same anymore. I’ve gone there 2 or 3 times since the rebuild, and there is just a weird vibe there. They have lots of nice stuff, but the employees appear to be brain-​dead. They don’t look at you, greet you or ask if you need help. It’s like a zombie apocalypse in there.

My husband and I just got back from Summer Winds on Almaden Expressway in San Jose. There are two other Summer Wind nurseries that are closer to where I live, but I was looking for a specific plant. I called first and a fellow named Nabor assured me that there were plenty of the plants that I wanted, and they had lots of buds on them.
To make a long story short, the plants were not there as he described them. I made the trip, spent the time and the money for gas for nothing.
I walked out of the nursery frustrated with the staff and the lack of service, and highly disappointed that Nabor lied to me – probably out of laziness because he didn’t bother to look for the plants.

Summer Winds Nursery has been remodeled after the fire. It is located on the corner of Almaden Expwy and Branham Ave next to Jack in the Box! It has a nice large car park and they do have carts so you can fill up on plants, trees, fertilizer, etc.
If you do have a green thumb or looking to inquire to get one then you have to visit a nursery. The staff here are friendly, knowledgeable and can point you in the direction of plants (tomatoes, jalapenos, etc) or fruit trees (orange, pear, persimmon, apple, peach, plums, etc).
Prices are reasonable and you will find a larger variety here than visiting a Home Depot or a Lowes store. So stop on by and load up. I always enjoy coming to this store, never leave empty handed.

The problem with Summeriwnds is they JUST DON’T CARE about the surrounding community. There were about 20 transients camped out just within their property, smoking and polluting the sidewalk as peope passed by, but can the security staff get off their ASS and do something about it??? I guess not because the bums are stiull there and more appear each day. I hope they burn down again so they get reaplaced with a business that cares more about our community. Really don’t appreciate unregistered sex offenders being given free reign to camp out at their property!

More than 3 is chain.
This summarizes pretty much the fact that after reaching the magical threshold of more than 3 locations, the business inevitably becomes a chain. A chain with all the positive and negative connotations.
You can expect the same mind-​numbing mediocre service /​product /​store /​waiters /​staff. Which can be OK for some, but tedious and dull for others. I like businesses that are unique and that bring something new. Once you try to put a soul into a ring binder manual, it is gone.
Summer Winds is a chain. Not a bad one, but a one starting to display the negative sides of a one. The location in Santa Clara resembles a McDonald-​esque approach to nursery. Disinterested staff, mediocre plants, oozing industrial-​like attempt at individuality.
In short, it is OK, but I find it hard to distinguish between the Home Depot’s garden section and Summer Winds nursery. I could find pretty much the same stuff (with some exceptions), but the staff just looked disinterested and bored. Not really willing to help…
For much better nursery try Yamagami’s in Saratoga. Despite being more expensive, it is absolutely amazing.

I see this place being awesome once they finish the construction of the actual building. For now though, all is outside or in outdoor tents. I was looking for seeds so I was out of luck, but they do have a good selection of plants even for this early in the season.
Cashier was friendly and helpful.

I’m a fan! This is a larger nursery, great quality plants, good selection of seeds, fertilizer, a small selection of outdoor furniture, a decent selection of gift items for someone who loves gardening and seasonal items. This nursery is perfect if you need plants that are on the more common side. Every time I come here looking for something a little less common, I don’t end up finding it here. So align your expectations for a great experience. Yesterday they made our shopping trip extra special when one of the ladies who worked there gave my kids lady bugs to take home. Thanks! You guys are the best!
