The Advocacy Center was founded in 1994 by Steven Paul Cohn, who serves as senior litigation counsel. Mr. Cohn has been practicing law since 1980 in the Silicon Valley, with offices in San Jose. The firm continues to specialize in the areas of labor and employment law, with an emphasis on employment harassment and discrimination litigation. History

Established in 1994.

The firm has represented over 7000 individuals in obtaining favorable resolution of their employment disputes in the Bay Area. Founding Attorney Steven Cohn began his legal career in the California Dept. of Justice, serving in Consumer Protection, later being awarded the State Bar’s Wiley Manuel Pro Bono Award for the provision of outstanding free legal services for the public good. Educated at the University of California, University of San Diego, and Oxford University and serving as a Santa Clara County Judge Pro Tem, I actively give back to the community, including having volunteered as a referral attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Santa Clara County and the Pro Bono Project. I taught law at Santa Clara University and have been a continuing contributor to employment law symposiums, continuing education classes and am a published author in the area of employment law. I had a tough case against my former harassing boss who was very smart about always saying someone complained about me mr Cohn cut right through to what I needed to do to win my unemployment insurance claim. He was very caring listened and made the process understandable, he then waived his fee he helped me out of a sense of justice! 5 stars thank you Mr cohn!

I found him to be an arrogant pompous idiot. He knew nothing about my case allow things to be stated that were not true and basically lost my case because did not care to know anything about my case he was happy take my money. He claims that when we left the court that we all felt we were going to win but that’s not true I knew that he had no idea what he was saying do yourself a favor look elsewhere when you need an attorney to represent you in any labor board claim.

We needed a second opinion on a current lawsuit, and contacted Steven Paul Cohn. He promptly returned our call and fit in an appointment the next day. He is very intelligent with a quick, analytical mind. He seemed to grasp all of the particulars of our case within the two hour consultation, and gave us his advice and answered our questions. We are thinking we would have probably been better off if we initially saw him, as he would have handled a few matters differently, which would have strengthened our case. However, after seeing him, we have peace of mind, and are very glad we talked with this personable, smart, and congenial attorney. We were charged for two hours, but he threw in an additional hour and a half gratis.

During the initial consultation, Steven Cohn took many unannounced interruptions to talk with a building contractor, who was also in the office surveying the building. Cohn also took telephone calls during the initial consultation. After the consultation, Cohn told me that the initial consultation would be applied to the retainer agreement.
Steven Cohn agreed to a modified retainer agreement and in fact cashed the retainer check. Yet he did not start work until over a full month after cashing the retainer check. Cohn chose his own hours for office appoint but repeatedly canceled his appointments with less than half hour notice.
Publicly Cohn required clients to cancel 24-hours in advance or pay a penalty. But when Cohn cancels on clients, he makes no apologies. After repeatedly delaying my case by over a month, Cohn made excuses and promptly withdrew from my case. Cohn claimed that I willingly forced him to resign and refuse to refund fees in full. I am still trying to get a refund from this crooked lawyer.
