«Do we have to eat at Daddy’s house again?»

These words, spoken by a three year old little girl, inspired Vincent Tripp to purchase his first ServiceMaster franchise. This former restaurant owner put in so many long hours at The Iron Skillet that his young daughter thought he lived there. Vince knew it was time to make a career change.

While baking bread early one morning at the restaurant, Vince listened to Paul Harvey promote a fast growing Fortune 500 company called ServiceMaster. After much research, he decided to take the business knowledge he had acquired in the restaurant industry and start up his own ServiceMaster Franchise. Vince purchased his first franchise in the Los Gatos area in 1989.

Very disappointing working with these guys. They were very quick to collect payment before any work has started, perhaps that should have been the warning sign? I work with lot of vendors of all sorts as a property manager and in recent memory this was the only instance I was asked to pay upfront (they called me to collect or the «tech couldn’t keep the promised appointment»). We manage a rental property and there seems to be quite harsh smell (of possibly animal origin) in one of the bedrooms. We liked the high ranking on Unilocal and the promise that they use «their nose to detect issues» pretty quickly. Unfortunately, they were not able to point a finger towards anything, aside from agreeing that «yes, there is a smell in the unit». On top of that, the customer service lacks significantly — I was promised the tech to call me from the property to consult (did not happen) and the «report» (well, that’s a strong word as it did not contain anything) was not ready that day either as promised. To summarize, very, very disappointing experience.

I have never received such poor customer service in my life!!! Service master came into our home removed most of our belongings and then damaged our curved 65inch Brand new tv. After admitting fault they then went on to try and find our tv at a whole sale amount instead of replacing it with a like kind/​model immediately or issuing a check for the amount we paid for it 6 months ago. Now 6 months later no check, no tv and then they had the nerve to want to remove our current TV they damaged to sale it. I am blown away by this company and I am shocked USAA would do business with people with such little integrity. We have contacted an attorney and now are proceeding in fighting them court. Such a hassle I would never recommend this company to anyone.

We had a water system failure that damaged a finished basement. The owner and staff at Servicemaster were excellent to deal with, showed up when promised, and did a good job.
We had two very minor concerns about the repair work that they didn’t argue over or dispute. Instead they got right out and addressed them to our satisfaction. That’s sometimes the real test of a contractor’s quality.
I’d recommend this company to our friends.

During our recent move from San Jose to Campbell, we used SM Allcare to clean the carpets in our old house and clean the HVAC unit and ducts in our new house. Vince Tripp personally came out and gave a thorough evaluation of the work to be done. His expert knowledge of HVAC was critical as our new place has a legacy AC system with very old ducts. The estimate was prompt and very reasonably priced. The scheduler was quick to contact us and set up an appointment for the following week. All work was done in a timely manner by very friendly and professional staff. The PM arrived armed with all necessary tools and assistance. We found the entire crew to be friendly and polite. We were so pleased with their service we also asked them to help us move our furniture! Professional, Attentive, Friendly. Use this company.

After a rocky 1st meeting with Project Manager Daniel Gallegos from the SE Portland Oregon branch I was amazed at how fast and efficient his crew worked. They are polite and if noticed anything wrong/​broken brought it to my attention immediately. Production Manager, Manuel Avila keeps a good eye on his crew, VERY ATTENTIVE. What really impressed me upon our first meeting, Daniel and his partner put booties on coming into our home, even after all the smoke damage and mess we had. Their follow up on what we wanted and helping us to know what to expect helped in this terrible fire/​smoke damaged disaster. Bravo guys. We will recommend you all in a heartbeat! When we came upon a sudden, highly stressful water damage situation in our family home, our State Farm agent recommended thatwe reach out to Servicemaster for the remediation. From the beginning, starting with James K., we were continuously kept up-​to-​date and felt like we were a priority throughout the entire process.
Throughout the almost two-​and-​a-​half months of remediation, abatement, and restoration, James, Vince, Carlos, and Sahar operated with professionalism and punctuality, providing us with quality work all the while making us feel truly valued as clients. My calls and questions, no matter how many there were, were always answered and taken care of. Part of a contractor’s job is dealing with clients who are managing very stressful situations; amid such an intensely taxing and uncertain time, the Servicemaster team took care of our home and made sure that we were well-​informed throughout the whole ordeal.
All in all, we received quality work and dealt with a group of genuine, trustworthy people. We sincerely thank the entire Servicemaster team for their attention to our home.

Final update on the water remediation:
The water remediation project was completed in about 2.5 weeks. The ServiceMaster team at the end did a great job with the drying process and left the house clean when they completed their work. I am very pleased with Casey and his team in how they managed the process, informed us of the progress of drying and kept the house organized and clean through this ordeal.
If you suddenly have a water leak in the house, this team has my wholehearted recommendation.
Now, we are starting the journey of reconstruction. which we are discovering to be a whole different process. Stay tuned for more…
Update after 2 weeks:
ServiceMaster is getting close to finishing the restoration work. They have continued to do a very thorough and clean job of identifying problem areas and focusing the water remediation effort in those area. They are coming in every day to monitor the dryness levels, with detailed measurements that are giving us the assurance that the home will be fully dry before we start reconstruction.
Initial Problem– Jan 27, 15
We just had a water leak in our kitchen that flooded a majority of our downstairs. We called ServiceMaster at 8:00AM, they showed up in 3 hours. The crew chief Casey Pughe and his team dove in, sucking up the water from the carpets and setting up fans and dehumidifiers to dry the area.
Later on Bryan Entler came over to measure the dryness and explain the progress.
Casey is also being helpful in understanding the next steps.
We are not done yet… I hope to make this a 5 star review…

Not only did they not show up to the appointment, but also when I called to follow up, they said they would charge for the initial assessment, which they had missed telling me about when I made the appointment. Not a reliable company. Do not lose time with them if your restoration is urgent.

Edson Martin and his whole crew are awesome.
My townhouse flooded on a Saturday night. ServiceMaster was responsive, instructive and efficient in getting the initial work to prevent any further damage from the water.
I have never had a flood experience before so was completely in shock. Edson helped me understand what the road would look like to restoring my townhouse.
Throughout the drying process and the demolition process, every person I met on the ServiceMaster team (probably 6 people or so) was super helpful and very professional. I should also mention Raul who did great work (over and above) and who also followed up. Really helpful.
Whenever I reached out to Edson, either phone call or text — he was available, knowledgable and understanding when it came to answering my questions. There were also a variety of small details, like dying out the bottom of a kitchen cabinet and sealing the cabinet. Edson always went the extra mile.
If you experience something like water damage or fire damage, you will likely have your insurance company involved. It was amazingly helpful to work with Edson and ServiceMaster as they are set up to work with the insurance company and know the process.
Through this experience, I found that everyone really wants to help out… and help you recover from this type of an event.
Highly recommend ServiceMaster.

Long story made much shorter, Service Masters, headed by Vince Tripp, was called to handle water damage for me and tore out probably twice what needed to be torn out. He seemed to be trying to rip off my insurance company and they declined to pay the claim.
Now I’m having other contractors give estimates for repairing the damage and discovering that I’ll be paying less than 1⁄3 of what Service Masters tried to charge.
I emphasize: * less than 1⁄3 * of what Service Masters wanted.
I could have easily made this a 10 paragraph review but the summary is simple: Service Masters Allcare Restoration Services is a dishonest rip-​off company and it all seems to emanate from Vince Tripp. I wrote out the entire legal name because I learned that Service Masters is a parent company and the locations are franchises.
When I finally had the sheet rock repair done by someone else, I mentioned that Service Masters had torn out far more than was necessary. He told me that Service Masters has a reputation for doing exactly that.

State Farm called ServiceMaster out after some water damage to my home. I judge contractors based on four criteria: 1. Quality of Work, 2. Showing up when they promise, 3. Cleanliness of work, and 4. Performing the work they promise. They failed on all 4 accounts. I worked with Edson Martin and owner, Vince Tripp.
1. They did not dry out all the wet areas, they missed areas that needed to be removed.
2. Twice they showed up late or didn’t do what they were supposed to. This point caused me problems. I had two new construction contractors show up to review and place bids. They could not because ServiceMaster did not demo the room when they said they would. Its a small job and very challenging to get contractors to come give bids.
3. Their workers tracked mud into a bathroom when they used it and destroyed our bathroom rugs. They also took the liberty of weighing themselves on our scales and talking about it in Spanish in front of my wife (who they didn’t know was fluent).
4. They did not perform all the work as promised. On 6÷12÷214, Vince visited the damage and promised either an estimate to rebuild or a list of contractors that could help by 6÷14÷2014. As of 6÷24÷2014, I still have not received either.
When I informed Edson Martin of this, he promised to change the price from $ 2,100 to $ 1,700. When I received the invoice, it was still $ 2,100. When I asked him why he was charging more than we agreed upon, he stated it was because he was billing State Farm. I guess it is their practice to over charge the insurance company. I will include photos of this conversation. When I informed owner, Vince Tripp of the situation, he showed no concern.
I don’t recommend Servicemaster. They do not do what the promise, their workers are not respectful, they did not dry out the agreed upon area, and try to over charge the insurance companies. No wonder our insurance rates are so high. On top of this, according to Edson Martin and his supervisor, Kaycee Tripp, they do not warranty their work.
If you are reading reviews and are confused why they have so many mixed reviews, look at the dates of the good reviews. Nothing but bad reviews for the past 2 years.

I contacted Servicemaster for a mold problem I had, and even agreed to pay the steep $ 180 fee for an estimate because of the incredibly high ratings here on Unilocal.However, the estimate was extremely high for the amount of work needed, and included a hefty charge for asbestos testing for a house that was built after 2000! I ended up contacting another company (Servpro) which gave me a FREE estimate that was $ 1000 less than the one from Servicemaster!
Lesson learned: Do not pay for an estimate that should be FREE just because a company has good ratings on Unilocal

A recent fire in my home left much smoke damage throughout multiple rooms. The walls were disgusting, and the smell was unbearable. My insurance company referred me to Servicemaster, and I’m sure glad they did!
I called and was assisted by Tim. He told me what to expect and sent out an estimator person to assess the damage. They gave me detailed descriptions of what needed to be done and realistic timelines for when it should be complete. They explained everything to me in an easy to understand way (I know NOTHING about home repair), and they then got to work immediately on my house.
The results were fantastic. You couldn’t even tell there was any smoke. They left the house in better condition than before the smoke damage!
The best part by far was the fact they put me at ease throughout the entire ordeal. What was a traumatic and emotional experience ended up not being too bad. Their friendly and communicative methods really helped keep the situation managable and kept me from freaking out more than I already was.
I can’t recommend them highly enough. Great results, great staff, quick response!

I’ve used Servicemaster when my customers (I’m in the Insurance Business) have a home restoration claim and boy, they never let me down. It’s nice to know that there is fast help with quality customer service out there. As soon as I call they will get out ASAP to our customers and provide an accurate estimate. Nothing but good things to say. I’ve dealt with Tim when I call and he makes the process seem very smooth. We even had them clean the carpet here in the office and they did a wonderful job. Keep up the great work guys!

I had to move in to a new house that had cats and need the place cleaned out so my wife could move in. The team cleaned the house out and my wife has yet to have one asthma attack and the house was super clean. Serivemaster you are the best.

The rating provided isn’t for the actually cleaning/​restoration services … but rather for the very poor customer service provided by Service Masters.
I had a fire damage to my place, and was referred to service masters by the agent that handled my claim. An hour later, I received a call from Service Masters and setup an appointment the same day with their project manager James K. He came right on time and took photos and explained how they would handle everything.
So far … excellent … why 1 star you wonder?
James K promised to provide a detailed estimate within 3 business days. I wanted to make sure I approved everything on the estimate before the work actually started. I called them back after 3 business days, and they promised to get a hold of James and have him send me the estimate. Three more days and what do I get? Nothing! I called back again just to receive the same promise over and over … I even had my adjuster contact them to get them moving forward … and she couldn’t receive an estimate of services from them!
Now imagine that you’re requesting restoration services for your place after a fire accident, and the vendor is delaying the estimate for 10 days! Do they expect people to hire them if they don’t provide an estimate for how much they would charge?
Who did I hire instead?
No one! I ended up taking things into my own hands, and worked with my insurance through it. I hired cleaners, movers, contractors for the restoration, and everything on my own just to avoid such a bad experience once again.

Where do I begin? Came back from a business trip and found the ceilings of my condo dripping water because the upstairs neighbors’ water heater blew. I was tired, stressed and definitely didn’t want to deal. One of my neighbors told me to call Service Masters. I called them and talked to a guy by the name of Ray. He told me they would take care of everything, and that’s just what they did! I locked the door and went to a hotel to get some needed RNR. Ray kept me posted on every detail of the restoration of my place and after a few days my place was back in shape and my carpets looked better than ever. I don’t like leaving reviews, unless something is extraordinary. Ray and his team at Service Masters took care of everything professionally and with care.

Our insurance agent recommended Servicemaster Clean, and James Kamleshan was onsite in a matter of hours!
We were dealing with a hot water leak that had caused a mold problem in an apartment. James’ team was fantastic! They were there, they were fast, they were careful, they were thorough.
