Performance Door & Window

We believe that the reason people call a companies like Performance Doors and Windows is to get professional help choosing quality doors and windows. Unfortunately, we were proven wrong here. First off, I want to state that we received a wonderful recommendation to use Performance Doors and Windows from a family member. They had a great experience with this company, but mine, however, has been very frustrating.
I reached out to Mario back in September 25^th, 2014 but he told me he was really busy. We didn’t get a call back until January to order some doors but that was fine because we were still remodeling anyways. Initially, he was very responsive. He came to our house on January 13^th and measured our 2 entry doors, 3 sliding doors, and 5 windows. 4 of the 5 windows are custom sized windows and I had explicitly told him they were were all slightly different in size since the previous owner of the home built it himself. After we discussed the styles that I had in mind, he left and we receive a quote on February 2^nd; he was apologetic about the delay, which was only 3 weeks.
On March 12^th, my husband and I decided to move forward with the quote that was provided to us by Mario. We sent the signed quote with a 50% deposit (mind you, we hadn’t even seen the doors or windows he ordered, which was my fault for moving forward, but I had trusted him since he had a stellar review from my cousin). On March 25^th, I asked Mario for an estimated delivery date and image samples of the doors and windows. He replied the next day with ONE image of a sliding door and a promise that he was going to come back and remeasure everything.
We never heard from him again. I had to reach out to him on May 2^nd asking for an update on the timeline, he responded saying that he’d get back to me. I texted him again on the 5^th, since I hadn’t heard from him, but I didn’t get a response until the 6^th saying that our doors would arrive on the 20^th. We didn’t receive the doors/​windows until June. It should not have taken 3 months from the time we paid of frustrating texts with no responses to receive our products. And the delivery is a whole other story; if my husband wasn’t home to help their delivery man, he would have never been able to drop off our products. Performance Doors and Windows: please send an adequate number of delivery persons to a job.
On June 7^th, I called and left a voicemail for Mario letting him know about some issues we had encountered, but we didn’t receive a response. I then sent him a text on the 9^th letting him know about my issues again, and he responded that he was in Disneyland with his family and would be back tomorrow. I apologized, and asked for him to call me when he was back at work. He text me the next day asking if I was around in the afternoon, but I was at work since it was the middle of the week. We made plans for him to swing by on the weekend to go over our issues, but he was a no show. So, here we are, over 10k dollars out and a Sales rep that does not seem to care one bit about our situation. I sent Mario countless numbers of text, photos, and even videos of the problems we were having. These were our two biggest issues:
1. The 4 custom sized windows were ordered all in the same size, so only one window actually fit properly. Our contractor had to rig the windows and shimmy them with wood and insulation in order to make it work; since our original windows had already been removed and Mario was unresponsive, we felt this was our only solution. We also had to spend an addition $ 400 worth of labor and material in order to get the windows to fit. So tell me, why did I pay for custom sized windows, and still have to go through all this hassle and headache?
2. The side door that Mario ordered for us was: 1. did not match the style of the rest of the doors in our home, and 2. the built-​in blinds DON’T EVEN WORK!
3. One of our sliding doors were missing some round plugs at the bottom, so there was a hollow hole in the door.
ALSO, I tried escalating this issue to the manager Dave. He received my email, responded letting me know he received it, and then that was the end of that. I called Performance Doors and Windows several times trying to escalate my issues. Finally, the receptionist let me know that both Mario and Dave are the Managers. When I asked for the Owner’s number, she embarrassedly told me they were also the owner. That is ridiculous!
Finally, on July 28^th, SOMEONE dropped off new magnets for the blinds and some plugs. Mind you that they dropped it off at our front door, it was not mailed. They didn’t even have the audacity to hand deliver it face-​to-​face to discuss our issues.
I’m very resentful of this whole transaction and how everything played out. BOTTOM LINE: Go somewhere else that will give you better customer service.

Agree with Peter D about waiting for months to get order, about terrible customer service.
Spent nearly $ 10k on about 12 solid-​core high-​quality interior doors, with specific requirement that the doors have certain look. Special ordered «SOLID CORE FLUSH VERTICAL GRAIN RIFT CUT WHITE OAK COMB GRAIN VENEER & SOLID VENEERED EDGE»
Two doors came already damaged. Door are unfinished and will be stained clear coat, but someone had apparently spilled/​dripped some dark wood stain on two doors, so have heavy streaks of stain running about ½ to ²⁄₃ down the doors. One door was salvaged but the other door, due to stain having soaked in too deeply, could not be salvaged.
Performance Viking Door & Window agreed to replace it. But it took them 6 months to bring that replacement, long after my home construction was completed and long after I moved into my new home.
Any quality conscious business would have taken photo of existing doors in the lot (that they delivered) and then order a replacement that would match the rest of the lot. But no, they didn;t do that. They didn’t ask me to confirm the door they had obtained for me as replacement either. So when the door came 7 months later, I was greatly surprised and displeased to see that the door grain and appearance completely does not match with rest of the doors in the house. In fact, I believe they didn’t even order the right door! Looks like the door is just a ‘Sliced white oak veneer’, instead of RIFT-​CUT White Oak veneer.
At the time, that replacement door was the only outstanding thing left in my home reconstruction, and I had (naively) paid all my bills with VPDW, so felt powerless to fight them for a ‘correct’ door. Also felt I had wasted enough time and energy and just want to move on with my life and enjoy living in my new home. So took the door instead of asking them to take it back.
But now I found that there is an outstanding balance on one of the bill, so with that as leverage, I ask them to replace the door with one that is rift-​cut and that would match the rest of the doors in my house. But they refused to do that.
I’ve filed a complain with Better Business Bureau of Silicon Valley.
I would have given Performance Viking Door & Window just 1 star for the services they provided, but decided to give 2 stars as the workers who had come to my house were all very nice.

We wanted to like this place, since it came highly recommended by our contractor.
When we arrived, there was only one sales lady on the floor and she was already helping out a customer. She saw us, but didn’t acknowledge us. About 15 mins later she told us she would call someone down to help us.
The person who came to help us was not a sales man. He was a buyer. So I don’t know if it was intentional or not, but he made us feel like idiots for not know anything about doors. He used a lot of door jargon as if we were door experts and when he realized we were not experts, he dumbed it down borderline insulting us.
Usually the sales person will write down the style, model and price of the items you are looking at. This guy didn’t do squat. We had to write everything down ourselves and when we asked for prices he just threw out numbers, «around $ 2,000-$ 2,500». He didn’t bother to explain why or what made up the difference in price.
We left the showroom frustrated and annoyed. There are plenty of other store in the bay area. We’ll just take our business else where.

We have been working with the former company, A&B Doors, and its owner Mario Azevedo for several years. We have had nothing short of excellent service every time we used them. They are highly professional, very helpful and efficient. Am very surprised with the negative reviews!

When we got ready to order windows and a door for a garden shed we went to Performance Door and Window. After looking at the size of the windows Dave recommended that we increase the height a bit if possible so the windows wouldn’t be square. We took his recommendation and are glad we did.
Windows and door arrived when they said they would and the end product looks great. We are very happy with the service we received.
