I am married and the father of two beautiful children. I spent six years serving in the United States Navy Submarine Force from 1981 — 1987. I became involved with the construction industry after being honorably discharged from the Navy. I started Newport Masonry four years after my discharge. I have owned Newport Masonry & Concrete Inc. for two decades now. I am proud of the work we have performed during this time.

I have had three different concrete projects done by this company and could not be happier. My colored stone stamped driveway is a work of art. Dwaine is an expert and the results prove that. I highly recommend Newport Masonry and have personally referred several friends and family to them with GREAT results.

Dwaine came out a couple of years ago and installed colored stamped concrete walkways and patio for me. Initially it seemed ok but a white haze developed on all of the concrete. I thought it was fading. Wrong. 3 concrete companies came out to look at it and they all said the same thing. The sealer that has been used initially was applied too thick, they could see roller marked and drips. They all said it would need to be stripped an reapplied and told me to call the person who installed it because it wasn’t done correctly. Instead of taking advantage of the situation and giving me an estimate to fix, all three said anyone worth their salt as a concrete installer would definitely make it right. Excellent. So, three phone calls and messages later and Dwaine will not bother to call me back. To make matters worse, all three contractors pointed out that one section of the sidewalk was sloped toward my house, instead away from my house so rain water is draining into my foundation! It is at the back of my house and I never noticed. If they had at least called me back to discuss, come out to look or anything this could have easily been resolved. But they didn’t. I would think twice about hiring them when there are many ethical concrete professionals out there that stand behind their work.

In November 2012, Dwaine and his crew installed a stamped concrete driveway with a semi-​circular sitting area. He was great to work with up front and helped me with a few design elements and suggestions. Dwaine’s crew showed up on time, kept to the schedule, and were very courteous. The rock work was well done and the construction looks good given my limited understanding of these things. We get a lot of compliments on the seating area.
The crew could have done a better job of cleaning up the worksite after completion of the job. There were piles of dirt filled with wood and cement chips left behind and chunks of cement embedded in the planter area bordering the driveway, but I was able to clear most of this through a day of digging and transfer of the excess dirt over several weeks on trash days.
Lessons learned — Sealing the driveway is key if you choose a muted palette and want to see any color. After the driveway cured, our carefully selected color palette disappeared. Instead of the nice brown/​grey tones that matched our rock work, we saw a very bleached out grey color. We were pretty bummed out. It took a few months to connect and align schedules, but once we were able to communicate the source of our disappointment, Dwaine had his crew come out and seal the job free of charge. This resolved the issue and created the driveway that we had envisioned. Thanks to Dwaine for identifying and fixing the issue. Now I can move on to landscaping!

We hired Newport to demo out a beat up and broken old patio and mow strip and pour a new stamped and colored patio and mow strip. Dwaine’s crew showed up right on time, and wasted no time getting the old stuff out. All the guys were very friendly, and they took absolutely no shortcuts.
My neighbors appreciated not being woken up by a demo hammer– while they had one they did most of the demo by hand with a couple bars and sledge hammers. Each day the jobsite was left clean and organized.
When the time comes to replace my driveway and front porch I will be calling Newport without hesitation.

We recently had a number of challenges with a different contractor doing some driveway and sidewalk work. We were getting concerned that our current contractor was not giving us the best advice. We called Dwaine in to consult half way through a job that was turning out to be twice as much as I had originally agreed. Dwaine pointed out where we were set wrong by our current contractor, which enabled us to get the scope and price to something within reason. Dwaine also gave us a very competitive price, but it ultimately turned out to be too expensive to break our original contract.
I wish we had found Dwaine in the first, as it would have saved me a lot of money and time. We will certainly be using Dwaine on any future concrete work we get done. Would thoroughly recommend this company and their very professional attitude.

Dwaine is a great guy to work with; knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. We had flagstone along with some concrete installed in our backyard and it looks GREAT! The crew was friendly and professional and completed the job in a very timely manner.

These guys did the deck around my pool, as well as the coping. We are almost done, but it seems they have done a good job with attention to detail, have excellent communication. Answer all questions. Explain insider industry lingo and communicate in language you can understand.
So, overall, I think these guys are quite good.
