Mayflower Moving and Storage

We just moved from Michigan to Southern California, (August 1^th) with Mayflower’s help. It was the best move experience we had so far and we have been moving around a lot! The crew was very professional, respectful to our home and on time. The sale representative Chuck Jerore visited our home in Novi to estimate the cost and how many containers we need. He gave me so many great tips to lower the cost. He is friendly, honest and very professional. Gina T. was our move– responsible person. She provided us boxes and all packing materials, since I asked to pack boxes myself. She is very friendly, and professional. The whole time, she tried to schedule everything on time with the different time zones and always was in communication with us in order to inform us with the new updates and other info. The loading and delivery crews in Novi and here in Irvine also did an amazing job. Kevin Howey, Jamal Fields and Tom Rindle helped us with loading in Novi. It was the most amazing thing ever to watch them be so careful with our furniture and boxes. The whole crew had a very positive, good mood which made our stressful day much better. Also, the delivery crew in Irvine: Paradise T., Ralph, Lee T., Jose was very quick and professional. Everything was delivered to the 4^th floor and assembled without even a scratch. I am so glad we chose Mayflower to help us with the move and we are very grateful to the whole crew who helped us move our home!

Mayflower moving consultant was supposed to be here 30 minutes ago. No phone call to let me know this person would be late or not coming today. After reading all the negative reviews, I am thankful and should the person show up sometime today, s/​he won’t be giving me an estimate and I will be telling the person what I think about his/​her rudeness in not bothering to call.

Would not recommend this company — they are not reliable. I had an appointment scheduled to get an in-​home estimate and 30 minutes after the scheduled time, no one had shown up. (This was on a work day so I took off half a day’s work so I could meet the guy.) When I called the company, they said the agent that arranged the appointment was «in a meeting» and couldnt come to the phone. Bad business.

The BBB verified on 12/​04/​2008 that the company’s PUC license, number MTR0190494, has been suspended since 11/​26/​2008.
This company provide horrible services and broken many of my belongings and did address my concerns.

If I could give them zero stars I would! The WORSE movers EVER!!!
I moved from Miami, FL to San Fran, 3000 miles and had the easiest moving experience compared to this hellish NIGHTMARE move from the City to Sausalito! It’s only a 8 mile drive! You think to yourself «Who can mess that up so BAD!?!» Well, Ding ding ding… we have a winner! Mayflower Moving, that’s who!
Don’t believe a word they say. It’s all nothing but lies. BIG FAT LIES!
Just to list a few of their highlights:
*showed up OVER 6 hours late, no apologies
*super rude movers that didn’t speak English and just yelled at me and gave me totally mean/​scary looks
*they showed up one man short which only made the move that much longer. It took them over 10 hours to move me!!!
*charged me a completely different price then what I was quoted
*didn’t advise me that they were going to charge me for every little piece of tape or supplies they used (an extra $ 300 for a sheet that you are going to take back with you?!? WTH?)
*Broke a few sconces in the building I was moving out of which they denied and I had to pay for
*Broke and damaged numerous of my belongings which of course they denied. surprise, surprise
*When I refused to pay the totally overpriced amount at the end, they held some of my items hostage and would not unload them until I paid.
The list goes on and on but you get the idea.
Bottom line: NEVER, EVER, EVER use this company. They should seriously be put out of business.

Please don’t even consider using this company to move you. I did, and now am having to take legal action to get back the serious over-​charges and mis-​charges they made. Their bid came in low, which is why I arranged my move through them, but the final total was triple the estimate. This group is under investigation, avoid them!

All I have to say is the estimate said $ 300 and when they dropped off everything, obviously late the total charges came out to $ 1100? WTF?
This place should no longer be in business. Look at the reviews.

I don’t write many reviews because I forget to, but this was such a bad experience I had to do this. ALSO THIS IS NOT MAYFLOWER LLC, who has trucks you see all over the place, so BE CAREFUL!!!
Let me tell you first about the good stuff: they did pick up my stuff on the day they said they would, they delivered it on the first day I was available for pick up. They wrapped things well, so most things arrived just fine. The drivers/​packers were for the most part pleasant.
Now for the bad:
1) They have really poor communication skills. I had to call them several times to find out when things will happen, and how, where, what… my first move, I don’t know how all this works! They didn’t explain anything. «You’ll get a call 2 hours before they show up»…nope, never got it. Had to keep calling.
2) When they picked up my stuff (which did occur during the time frame they stated) they said «oh yeah we need to wrap your furniture because its going to get bumped around in the truck»…to which I said, «ok.» Did he mention that my 1000 dollar estimate is going to be an extra 600 dollars for this wrapping? NO. Someone in the company actually said, «well as you can see they make their money off of the packing.» But when I saw the additional 600 bucks on the form, my stuff was already wrapped and in the truck, and so I sign and accept this extra cost because what else can you do this late in the game.
3) When my stuff is close to arriving the driver says, «so you know you have to pay the rest in cash, right?» Uhhh, no… what kind of company works on cash like this? Apparently the fine print on the contract I signed (but had not received a copy of), said cash is required for payment on delivery. NO ONE TOLD ME THIS. Not to mention their arrival for drop off between 4 and 6 p.m., became 9:30 p.m., so they want me to sprout 800 bucks at 9 p. m?
I’m on the phone with several people at their office, telling them that all I have is a credit card. One fellow, tells me that it has to be cash or nothing, they will continue the truck onward to Arizona (I just moved to San Diego) and I’ll get my stuff in a few days when I have the cash. Plus I’ll have to pay $ 350 overnight fees. This is all very shady now, because of the multiple calls (oh NOW they can call…), people I’ve spoken to, stories I’m getting from each person. I refuse to pay with cash. So the guy then calls me back and threatens that I’ll get my stuff in 14 days. I called the police. Before they arrive, I receive 2 or 3 calls from them trying to negotiate («Ok, how about 500 dollars cash, and the rest on your card/​check»). It seems so shady, I refuse to pay with anything but a credit card. They eventually take my credit card info, because I called the cops, they want to be done with me, the truck is sitting RIGHT outside my building… etc… whatever…
So they start unpacking around 10:30 p. m…they were there until 3 a.m. only 2 guys unloading. My friend and I are unwrapping my furniture, to speed the process along, which was totally their job, but we did it anyway. So everything is moved in except my dollie. They go down to get it, and never come back. 20 – 30 minutes later we go downstairs to look for them, and they are gone… no dollie. I also just noticed during my unpacking that a large painting is missing.

Seems there may be a pattern here. Caveat Emptor!
I had a fixed price quote for $ 2500 that ended up costing me much, much more. It was supposed to be for the truck, packing the boxes and transporting everything to LA. I was supposed to pay for the boxes. How much could that cost? They showed me a price list that had exorbitant prices for the cardboard — and really exorbitant prices for packing the boxes — but that was already paid for, right? Had to be out of the house and in LA the next morning — I signed.
When the truck was half full, they told me that I had already added over $ 3,000 to the price. I talked to someone the packing guys called a manager who convinced me to allow them to finish (the truck was half full already and we had to be in LA the next morning). He promised me we would be able to work it out after the truck was loaded.
$ 7,500. Felt like I had been mugged. 60 rolls of tape? Who was counting boxes (more on this later). But the truck was loaded and it was time to go. Had to get the job done.
Next morning, in LA, the truck was there. The kids that drove it down slept in the cab. I bought them breakfast and we got started unloading.
They worked hard and were very polite — helped me count all the different boxes, since the count was supposed to be what the charges were for. Not surprisingly, the count was very different from the count provided by the packers in San Jose. We called a ‘manager’ — who garranteed we would work it out. I gave the guys a $ 50 tip.
After they left — I started looking for my brand new still in the box monitor I helped put on the truck. Gone. Along with the box that contained my entire DVD collection.
Started unpacking. The packing was so loose, it was miraculous I only lost a couple of items to breakage and damage due to sloppy packing.
Remember that the variance was tied to the number of boxes packed? The boxes were starting to collapse on themselves because there was so little in them. One box was 90% empty — only had three shelves in it, place crosswise.
Lots of phone calls — very professional telephone worker who’s job appears to be to keep irate customers placated. I didn’t get any traction on even the partial refund they promised until I threatened to go to the CA-​DOT. Finally got the refund — in two separate payments.
Called Mayflower Corporate — these guys are not associated with the ‘real’ Mayflower in any way — just sharing the name.
Caveat emptor, friends.

Total rip off and con job! Bait and switch. I contracted with them to do a local move and was given a price of $ 600.00 and told that some boxes and moving material were included with that price. The movers came five hours late, didn’t speak English very well and had me sign the contract before the move under duress!!! They charged me $ 1500.00 for moving material and told me that they would not take the furniture off the truck unless I agreed to pay for the move. Nothing but Crooks!!! Stay Away!!! Report them to the BBB!

And here is why.
1. They were 2 hours late, which made me late for work.
2. They called to confirm my move the morning of my move which made them 2 hours late, even though I called 1 week earlier to confirm my move.
3. They had a brand new mover they sent out to me that hardly spoke english. He was the one to explain the paperwork I had to fill out. The guy had no idea what the paper work was for, and when I had questions he said «I don’t know just sign»…I left a lot of spaces blank!
4. They charged me for the tape that they used and a 4 boxes which came out to $ 130.00. They said they were going to pack my TV all they did was wrap shrink wrap around it!
5. They told me on the phone that they were going to charge me $ 237.00 for the move which includes everything, boxes, tape, time… everything but it came out to $ 370.00!
6. They didn’t clean up after them selves… they left empty rolls of tape and bubble wrap.
7. When we got to the drop off spot they wouldn’t unload my stuff until I gave them $ 370.00 bucks and it took them half and hour to figure out what the final price was going to be (I guess math is not a job requirement)!
8. They packed my storage container like two blind monkeys throwing poo. It was unorganized, unsafe, and uneven.
9. When all was said and done they came up to me and asked «if we are okay» thinking they were going to have a confrontation. I was already pissed and late for work so I said whatever!
10. When I questioned them about the price they said «well we didn’t charge you for our driving time, and we didn’t charge you for wrapping your mattress.» Once again whatever why fight with idiots!
11. If you need a great mover find someone else. If you are looking for a great butt rapping call Mayflower Moving.

contagious, or loathsome disease;
3. Tends directly to injure him in respect to his office,

occupation peculiarly requires, or by imputing something with
reference to his office, profession, trade, or business that has a
natural tendency to lessen its profits;

We had the same experience as the other reviewers… our final bill was 4 times our estimate, and that was after a long aggravating day of dealing with incompetent, rude movers. They wrapped everything in absurd amounts of plastic wrap and tape, but still managed to break items in 4 boxes and a dresser.
There are other options out there! Find a moving company that cares about taking care of your things and moving them with care.

Like the other two reviewers, my experience with this company has been horrible.
First off, they were substantially late (over 2 hours). They showed up in a enterprise rent-​a-​truck. They used excessive packing materials that they overcharged for, and I had no choice but to agree to the charges if I wanted them to unload my items. They also damaged two items in my move and left smudges and fingerprints on a lot of my things.
When I called to complain, I was told I’d get a call back, and never did. An e-​mail complaint sent to them was not replied to. I’m now in the process of disputing the charges with my credit card company.

Much like the other review, I had the same nightmare experience with these folks. NEVER USE THEM!
My move was scheduled at least 3 weeks in advance with a 1pm — 3pm window for the move. I was quoted an estimate of $ 267. The night before the move, they called and said they would be there from 2 — 4. Um, OK. I can deal, things happen. On the day of the move, I received a phone call, saying they were running late and that the move had been changed to 4 — 5. Now, I understand in the moving industry that things happen, there’s traffic, etc. I can understand an hour, hour and a half being late, but not that much. They then called at 4:45 saying that the move had been changed to 6 — 7, and that they had to call in a crew from Gilroy to come to San Francisco to do the job. At this point I was frustrated and annoyed. I finally got a hold of the driver of the truck at 7:30 pm. He said he was stuck in traffic. When I asked where he was by so I could gauge how long it was going to take, he said he was stuck at the toll booth… UM, when did they put a toll booth in coming from Gilroy to San Francisco?
They FINALLY showed up around 8:15 pm. They make you sign a BUNCH of contracts to get your items on the truck. They wrapped my TV in a box (which could easily had been wrapped with a moving blanket) and charged me about 75 dollars for the privilege. I have a large armoire that they asked if it came into my apartment in one piece and we told them yes, and as a matter of fact since it was a friend’s item, we made a party out of the move in of the piece, and the friends that had moved it in were drunk when they did it.
When they get to the place you’re moving to, they make you sign more contracts to get your items off the truck. They saved the armoire for last and after 1 half hearted attempt to get the armoire into the elevator of my building, said they would attempt to move it up the stairs at a cost of 75 dollars per 10 steps! They then tried that half heartedly, said the piece was just too big and that’s the nature of living in SF, and left my armoire in the lobby of my building. They never set up my bed which was part of the contract. And to top it all of, my new roommate and one of his friends EASILY moved the armoire into our apartment in 10 minutes.
They also charged me almost DOUBLE what they quoted me.
These guys are a HUGE rip off and should be avoided at ALL COSTS! If I could give these guys NO stars, I would.
