M & M Builders Deck and Arbors

Firstly Mark is a Professional, his teams are professional and their results will surpass your idea of what you thought you wanted. We asked Mark to build a 21′ x 15′ deck, but had worried the details for over a year with the design. Our first joint meeting he listend to us, and sketched out a to scale rendition that was exactly what we wanted. He is expensive, and so are his materials. The quality of redwood, the lack of corner cutting, the enjoyment his crews show as they worked are reflected in the final product. We are very pleased and believe our home has increased it’s value greatly. Mark’s interpersonal skills are top flight. He was patient and listened carefully to our concerns, and then educated us, very gently. We enjoyed working with him and the quality and skill of his teams transcend the price. We also had 2 rotted 4×6 arbor joists (for lack of a better term) that were anchored within stucco. Mark’s senior craftsman, Jorge pulled, and replaced the peices (also painted them to match) without one shred of stucco being dislodged. Amazing work. The project took 8 work days, the men showed respect for the site, kept the project clean as they worked, and were quiet, too. We cannot recommend Mark and his teams highly enough and are very satisfied. He and his team (s) earned our respect and trust. His work is an investment in your home, no doubt.
Our crews were manned by Jose, Javier, Jorge and Manuel… each a gentleman and each very skilled. a pleasure to watch our project come together.

I just had Mark and his team rebuild an existing arbor in my backyard that had wood rot. Mark was very friendly and professional and took the time to address my concerns and recommended some creative solutions to prevent the wood rot from happening again. His workers were very friendly and clean on the job site. The overall end job was perfect and I am very pleased. I highly recommend Mark and his team and I will definitely use him again in the future.

We are so pleased with the work that Mark and his fantastic team did on our new spa and deck area! As mentioned in the other positive reviews on Unilocal and elsewhere, Mark is incredibly diligent, detail-​oriented and creative. We had some general ideas on what we were looking for and he was able to take them further with his suggestions that included building a new T-​trellis to frame the spa. Each of his crew members are true craftsmen and take tremendous pride in their work and it shows in the results. In addition, Mark and his team are very customer-​service oriented. The work site was left spotlessly clean each day and the job was finished on time and on schedule. You may pay a little more for M&M Builders, but without a doubt we are glad we did. Well worth it! A+!!

I highly recommend Mark if you need any deck work done. Mark and his team removed our old redwood deck and built a new Trex deck. We are very happy with the workmanship and quality of the new deck.
We got three bids and chose Mark because of his cooperative and flexible attitude. While his bid wasn’t the lowest, it was very competitive and more than offset by the quality of the finished product. In addition, it has been great working with him and his crew. He made many suggestions that improved the deck. An extra angle was added to add interest to the shape of the deck. We needed to cover a sump pump and he designed a well integrated hatch cover that blends right in to the deck. He also listens to our concerns and suggestions. The work was finished in less than the 2-​week estimate.
The workmanship and materials are first rate. The substructure is put together using coated screws, not nails. Metal clips, not plastic ones, are used to secure the Trex boards. All screws for securing the fascia Trex boards around the edge of the deck are recessed and match the coloring of the Trex. The fit and finish are just immaculate.
The crew is very meticulous. Not only is the work done well but they are very respectful of the area. They clean up the work area when they leave for the day. One of the soaker hoses was cracked during work. When I pointed this out Mark immediately offered to pay for the replacement as well as the work to re-​install it.
If I have any other deck work to be done in the future, Mark is the first one I would call.

Mark and his crew just finished a new Trex deck and arbor for us. Mark is very diligent and detail-​oriented. His crew was friendly and cleaned up after themselves every day. Mark had great ideas for the deck and arbor and showed us a number of choices for deck material. My wife is very finicky and was impressed with Mark’s ability to embrace the little things. We made the right choice when we chose M&M to rebuild our old arbor and fence inclosure. From the beginning, Mark listened to what we wanted, and gave us exactly that. His work crew did excellent work, were friendly, and cleaned up before they left every day. The other positive reviews reflect much of what we experienced. I’ll call Mark again when the need arises.

Mark and his crew finished our brand new deck a couple weeks ago, and it looks amazing! The attention to detail really shows, and the wood is beautiful.
Mark is very nice, and it is clear he is passionate about his work. Before we started, Mark stopped by a couple times to discuss, measure, and then re-​measure the area as we established exactly what we wanted. He provided rough estimates as we casually discussed several options, and then followed up with formal estimates for the options we wanted to consider.
We were told the job would start in a specific week, and then the actual day was confirmed ~2 days before the job started, as they finish one job completely before moving on to the next one. The project included several steps — removing grass, plugging off in-​ground sprinklers, building the deck over concrete and dirt, building planters (including adding irrigation), and laying crushed granite around the planters. The deck will be stained next summer when it dries out, but it is usable and looks great now. We are very happy with the finished product.
The crew showed up and left at the same time every day and worked hard while they were here. Our neighbors are having their house renovated, and I heard their contractor comment on how impressed he was with the work being done.
We are thrilled with the deck! The wood is beautiful and very high quality, and the precision of the work shines through. I would highly recommend M&M Builders to anyone looking for quality product and workmanship.

Mark and his crew just finished replacing our old deck four days ago. It looks fantastic. The scope of the project entailed completely removing the old deck and building a brand new one from the foundation on up.
Mark was a pleasure to work with. He is clearly an expert in his field and competitive price wise. He met with us several times before the work began to finalize the design and explain the process.
While we had set a start date, the work didn’t start for about a week after that because the crew was delayed on the previous job. While we were anxious to get going, we appreciated the fact that Mark and his crew focus entirely on the current job and do not rush or cut corners to meet a projected deadline. Mark told us this in advance so we were not surprised or disappointed. To make amends for the delay in starting, the crew built us a great bench seat which we were not expecting. So very nice!
Once our deck project began, we saw progress everyday and meticulous workmanship and dedication to quality.
When the job was done, the crew cleaned up thoroughly, leaving everything as they found it.

Mark came out the day after we called and delivered a bid, via email, the next day. He worked around our vacation schedule so we could be present when the crew was working. The work was well done and the crew was very careful. Mark’s crew removed our old arbor and spa, rebuilt the arbor, adding more shade. They also continued our existing Ipe deck out, over the place where the spa was. They knew to piece the deck into the old section so that it will not show after it ages. The job looks great. Very pleased with the work. We recommend him.

Mark finally did establish contact. We now have an appointment set. He appears to be very experienced and knowledgeable, so I hope we will be able to work together on our project.

We checked Unilocal and Diamond Certified and selected M & M Builders. We were not disappointed. Mark, the owner, is a true professional. He is also a most likable and trustworthy person. We needed to replace a rotted deck. Mark came up with a great design that incorporated our hot tub, using the latest Trek decking that looks very much like wood, even with a grain. Not only did they remove the deck that needed replacing, but they helped remove a second deck that allowed us to open the backyard. We added benches and stairs and increased our outdoor living space. His staff built a super-​solid deck and left the yard cleaner than when they arrived. The job took less than two weeks. Mark’s staff was reliable, talented and likable. My wife and I cannot say enough about how impressed we were with the finished product. The entire experience was worry-​free. We highly recommend M&M Builders. If we could find something else for them to build for us, we would not hesitate to have them back. Mark invited us to his own house to see his Trek deck and landscaping. He wanted us to be completely comfortable with our choice and design, and we were.

These guys aren’t the cheapest, but the quality is fantastic. We had a lot of work being done at our house (remodel) and M&M went above and beyond. My wife and I had Mark build over 200′ of custom fence and build a custom gate. Mark was very good to work with and we are very happy with the result. They are not necessarily the cheapest, but the quality is fantastic and they are a terrific choice if you have an important project that will be highly visible.
The crew was also excellent, very professional and very clean. I like to be involved, and came by to check on things and help make final decisions. They were great about being flexible and making sure we ended up with a high quality project.

We scheduled a meeting with Mark after reading so many wonderful reviews. We wanted to do an outdoor deck/​patio and a few other features as well. He came over to our house and we talked about our ideas and project for quite a while.
He had really great ideas and pointed out a few things that we had never thought of, which was cool.
He said he would email us the cost and some designs in a few days. That was a month ago. We haven’t heard from him since.

M&M Builders recently installed a Pergola in our backyard. The owner, Mark von Dohren, worked patiently with us through the design stages and carefully explained the options that were available and the reasons why he felt one option was better than another. Mark also provided specification drawings. The building and paint process took five days (as promised) and we are completely satisfied with the end result.
