Learning Express Toys

I went Christmas shopping in «Learning Express» on a recommendation from a friend. I’m so glad I went to this store. They have a very nice selection of interesting and fun toys and games. I had no problem getting some help from one of the clerks in the store. She gave me a lot of suggestions and I was able to get my shopping done quickly. I will definitely be back the next time I need to buy gifts for my nieces and nephews.

I buy gifts for the kids here all the time. They have a good selection of learning toys and games and you can always find something within your budget.

So impressed with Learning Express! Not only do they carry a variety of educational toys, but they’re always well-​stocked when it comes to the latest trends. I found this little gem in San Jose during my hunt for Rainbow Looms and have been a dedicated customer ever since.
As I mostly visit the store when I’m buying gifts for my nieces and nephews, it’s a huge plus that they offer complimentary gift wrapping services year round. This small touch is a big help and has saved me from making many unnecessary trips to CVS for last minute supplies.
Not only do they carry every toy you could dream of, but the staff is always knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. They even offer fun classes and tutorials during the week (my niece was thrilled to attend a hands-​on Rainbow Loom class)! The store is a family-​owned franchise and the owners’ commitment to their customers is apparent when you walk through the door. I am always greeted by a smiling face and have frequently relied on the staff to help me find the perfect gift in a pinch.
Will definitely be back!

I have been shopping at this store since they opened. I love the excellent customer service and quality of toys. They are one of the last store’s that wrap up your purchase. It is great place for a last minute gift.

Love the store but they have this weird policy of only taking American Express on Small Business Saturdays and no other day. I get that Amex generally costs more for merchants but this is a bit extreme. The sign on the counter about how Amex is not compatible with their authorization codes sounds suspect if they can take it on SBS. They’re happy to get the additional business on SBS but don’t want to pay for it the rest of the year. I guess they haven’t heard of Square or PayPal readers.

I had high hopes for this place. It’s pretty cool still but smallish and it has more generic toys then funky cool ones.
I was really hoping that they would have some original toys but it almost feels like all the toys here I could also find at toys r us.
My daughter does enjoy the train table though that is set up in the middle of the shop. Once she is near it it will take me at least 30 min to drag her away from it ;)
Good thing for moms and dads… Peets is next doors.

Came here looking for Rainbow Loom products for my 6-​year old daughter, but more specifically a storage case that can hold the loom and rubber bands. And we found it. After purchasing my daughter’s storage cases, they offered to decorate it for free which turned out great but is only available during the week. Learning Express has a nice selection of «niche» toys that may not be found in bigger box stores, but as such the prices can be a little higher in general. Still, the staff was friendly and helpful and the service more personal. For comparison’s sake, it reminded me of Hicklebee’s in Willow Glen and The Wooden Horse in Los Gatos.

I have always come here to buy toys for my kids and for birthday gifts. They have a professional staff. Always cheerful, helpful with picking out gifts, and they gift wrap for you.

This store is great for finding that unique toy or gift for that special someone. They have a nice selection of educational gifts and items that you cant find at big box retailers. I always get greeted with a smile when i walk in! One time i had to find a Dino for my little boy and they checked the system to see if they had it. It showed one but the cashier and myself couldn’t find it. She actually spent 30 minutes going through each location of the small shop trying to find my specific item. My hats off to her even though we couldn’t find it. She went the extra mile.

Fantastic Store! Great staff and a great selection of toys. The owner even helped me pick out a couple gifts for my little cousin’s birthday. They gift wrapped my present too which was really nice.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for great customer service and a wide selection of unique toys and gifts.

I liked your store because it always had interesting toys. I also like to shop local business instead of amazon or toys’r’us or target, because I believe in small ownership. Of course, these come with inconveniences, that I don’t have in big retailer: prices are somewhat higher (because you don’t have sales) and the return policy is not that good either, but I am willing to overlook these issues because of the reasons stated above.
This email though is about customer service. Which I expect to be excellent, in order to overcome the inherent shortcoming of small business vs. big retailers.
Today my son was a very, very good boy and a great big brother to his sister who had to go through a difficult medical procedure. Therefore, I felt that he deserved something nice. I also had to buy two gifts for upcoming birthday parties. So I went to my (formerly) preferred store and we pick up several things. Went to the cashier (unfortunately Sarina), where she wraps two gifts (in which forgets to put in the gift receipts so she has to do it again), my son opens his present and I hand in my DEBIT card. Surprise, surprise, the DEBIT card cannot be run as a DEBIT card (for which, in normal stores, I can just enter my PIN number and get over with it). Here, it is only as a CREDIT card, therefore I have to show my ID (which I don’t have on me because of a passport issue). I try to explain it is not my problem that the store doesn’t have the ability to read my card as a regular DEBIT card (which it is) and Sarina is extremely rude and unaccommodating, being opaque to any of my suggestions of 1. taking my insurance card as an ID, or 2. calling the back to verify me.
She made me feel like a thief and tells me is not her problem I don’t have my ID with me. She tells me it’s not her fault that the store doesn’t accept my card as debit. Basically, she tells me she doesn’t really care because she just works there.
At this point, there is nothing to do, but leave my items behind (including taking off my son the fireman costume he chose as his gift) expalin to my son, who had tears in his eyes that we need to go without his beloved costume, and push the stroller with my crying infant in it out of the door. Behind me I hear one of the other ladies say: «make sure she left everything here, she also had a ball». I felt sick to my stomach when I heard that.
Going out of the store, I remembered there is a wellsfargo behind the store so I went to the ATM and got out money to pay for my son’s gift (forget about the gifts of the bday parties, my friends don’t deserve such a hassle). I only returned for this final purchase because my son was very understanding and instead of throwing a tantrum he just told me on my our way out «I am very sad, but it’s OK, we can go to another store».
My chief complains are:
1. the fact you don’t take debit cards, and that when something like that happens, the stuff is rude and unaccommodating (by the way, when you go to a restaurant that doesn’t accept Amex, they tell you at the door, they don’t wait until you finish the meal and make you wash dishes because they can’t accommodate your card. maybe you should put up a big sign at the door… we don’t take debit cards, please have your id with you)
2. I was treated like a thief. TWICE.
3. you are not consistent with your policy. This is not my first trip at your store, but it’s the first time I have this problem.
4. working in a children store, the stuff should be more creative and more flexible in their thinking, because I had to deal not only with my son’s disappointment, but also with a screaming infant.
I cannot tell you how DISGUSTED I am about the fact that the sales associate didn’t wait for me to leave the store, or was not discreet enough to check for «missing» items.

This place is fun and has lots of toys to play with. Staff is nice and they offer free gift wrapping. They also have a frequent buyers program which is pretty awesome. I really love all the toys they have to play with. Great place to go with your kid (s). Expect to be in the store for a good chunk of time because there are lots of toys to explore.

i didn’t come here for the longest time because i thought it was one of those stores for teachers, like flash-​cards and whatnot.
i came in with a developmentally disabled guy who loves firemen. i asked the young employees if they had anything, and two of them said no, but i found a few things (a sticker set and a 3d cardboard book). so maybe they could familiarize themselves with the inventory a bit more.
this isn’t as granola-​y as say, the wooden horse in los gatos. there’s tons of stuff here, but it doesn’t seem tailored to the «green» parent who wants wooden toys over plastic ones.
it’s not the cheapest spot. i was looking for little inexpensive knick knacks. i found a couple of little stocking –tuffers in the lucite cubes. wind-​up toys start at $ 3.
whoopie cushion $ 1.50, extendable back scratcher $ 4, birthday card with dogs in firetrucks, $ 2.50. mini sticker book with horses $ 1.50.
the best part is that they gift wrap for free, even when it’s crowded, like xmas time.
it looks like it could be a chain store, but it’s locally owned. they had a sign on the door saying if you use your american express card on small business saturday (nov 24) at a local shop (like theirs), you get $ 25 credit off a $ 25 purchase. good to know!

They have a great selection — lots to choose from. We always find something cool and unique. I love that they gift wrap for free. People working here are friendly and very helpful when you need it. I guess that’s why we keep going back!
Cool things to check out: zuca rolling backpacks, trains, dress up clothes, and very cool arts/​crafts kits. ok, if you ask my daughter, she’ll say hello kitty and stuffed animals… along with soooo much stuff that sparkles! they’ve got cool «guy» stuff too.
been shopping here for years, and will continue. btw, if you need a quality little kid bike/​trike, they have kettler (which are awesome)

I’ve been coming here for a while now so I’m shocked I haven’t written a review yet! As an instructor, this place is amazing! The selection is pretty good and the staff knows their stuff!
The icing on a teacher’s cake is only sweeter when the ladies are friendly like the ones you always find here too.

This place is full of stuff! From toys, trinkets, books, activity books, dolls, costumes, art supplies, science projects, and oh so much more. I was lost when I walked in cause this store has a lot of stuff that I want for myself but in the end I bought a jumprope and a math activity book for my Daughter.
The lady at the register was really nice. asked me if I want those frequent cards and of course I said, «Yes» because not only the place is filled w/​educational items… wonderful service and atmosphere too!

Learning Express is the best place for grabbing a last minute birthday or Christmas gift. The staff is super helpful in assisting you in searching for just the right present I should know, I pick their brains a lot! I would stress to get here in the early morning or afternoon on a weekday or off hours if you require one-​on-​one service. If it’s packed, it will be difficult.
And a huge draw for me is their free gift wrapping and frequent buyer card. Once your card is filled up they average all your purchases & you get to spend said amount. I just racked up $ 36 but in the past mine have been as high as $ 60.(You have to spend it all in one shot though & you can’t use on sales items or during promotions.)
A tip: another way to save is to sign up on their email & mailing list. They frequently send out coupons & alert you to sales. AND they now provide text alerts apparently. I believe you can get a 20% off coupon for signing up.
A few times a year they have 20% off entire store days.

You know that feeling you get when you are overwhelmed by the shopping experience? You start zoning out and not paying attention to the stuff in the store or in the window. This especially happens to me in Malls. Now I don’t go unless I have a specific store to go to with a specific thing to buy.
However, at Learning Express I get absorbed in the neat toys and books and stuff they have here. It’s like a library in fascination quota for me. I come here alone and with my kids, and it’s fun to see what gets the child’s attention and for how long.

I used to work right across the parking lot from this cute little store so I’d wander in at least once a month. One day I fell in love with a Hello Kitty piggy bank and bought it for myself. The store was empty so no one saw me. Five stars for that alone.
But really, this place is cool. They have a great mix of educational and classic toys. They do a complimentary gift wrap with super cute paper. I wish there were more stores like this.
