Joe Bathurst Complete Tree Care

Sought out Joe on the basis of referrals from others in our neighborhood. Joe helped with structural pruning and deadwood removal for about 20 trees of various sizes and states of previous care.
Took the time to tell us about each and every tree in our yard, pointing out, for each tree, where it had been maintained well, where it had been pruned sloppily, what help it needed, and when.
He formally bid all of the maintenance work he described, but pointed out where work could be done more cost efficiently by a regular gardener.
The man clearly loves what he does and it showed — in his explanations, quote, work, and clean-​up.

Joe was a referral from our neighborhood group and came highly recommended. I actually had planned to review a few arborists for my Japanese Black Pine that was a bit overgrown and needed some serious pruning. Joe was responsive and was able to complete the job within the same day, provided helpful info in how to follow up on my own. Then I forgot about a couple other trees and had him inspect my Asian Pear tree that sounds like it’s on its last leg, bummer, then had him also trim my Chinese Tallow trees at the last minute since I had upcoming roofing work. Better him than the roofers slaughtering my trees. He and his young asst did a wonderful job and cleaned up the area. We’ll see what happens to my Japanese Black Pine in the future but Joe understood how I wanted the tree to look (no poodle look) that will take some time down the road. Very happy w/​his work, knowledgable, and very reasonable prices.

This guy loves trees as much as I do.
For years, I’ve seen Joe in the Mercury News when we have had old storms with trees that have fallen. Since he has shown me to be reliable, reasonable, logical, and had a purposeful attitude toward taking good care of trees, it’s no wonder that he is called in to evaluate situations in an emergency.
For years, he has taken care of some beautiful old trees on our property. We had a couple concerns about two trees and he allayed our fears completely by letting us know that all we needed to do was thin them so the wind could go through them. They weren’t in danger of falling as my neighbors were concerned about their doing.
In addition, we would embark on a rebuild/​construction project, and he took care of a large limb that would’ve been problematic — but his care of the whole tree kept the integrity of the tree sound, and looking good.
(If you hate your tree, want it topped, or chopped in a silly way, don’t bother him. Not your guy.)
When we demo’d the house, there was a large tree near the old garage that the demolition guy wouldn’t go near because he thought when the garage slab was gone the tree would fall over.
Although a year or two had passed, the moment I called that day of the demo, he was available by phone, remembered our property, our trees, and the situation of each one, and could completely give me and the demo guy faith to proceed. That moment alone was worth every penny and more!
Flash forward another year, near the end of the project, and again Joe takes a phone call and is able to talk to my general contractor and be available to discuss an issue with the city and landscaper or other concerned parties when trying to take good care of one of our old cedars.
He will be in our «rolodex» for many years to come.
