General Tree Service

Jess at General Tree Service came out on a moments notice when my 50′ tree in the parkstrip in front of my house fell into the street and was blocking traffic. Jess and his crew were not only quick to respond, but eliminated the hazard of the tree blocking the public right-​of-​way in both the street and sidewalk. The crew did an excellent job removing the tree, hauled it away, and even cleaned up by sweeping up the remaining dust, pieces, etc. Other than the hole left where the tree once stood, you would never know that a 50′ tree was even there. We are looking forward to having Jess and his crew plant the new tree to replace the one that fell. We will continue to use General Tree Service time and time again and will always refer him to those in need of tree/​landscaping services. You can’t beat the professionalism, outstanding work, prompt service, and competitive/​fair pricing. Thanks again Jess and crew!

Jess and his crew just finished cutting down a huge oak tree which branches covered my house and my neighbors. (I have a permit.)
Jess was very professional and prices were reasonable.
They came as scheduled. It took longer than expected due to the heat wave. Jess communicated the delay.
They did a great job cleaning up. Will use them again!

I called around for estimates but no one really returned my called beside General Tree Service. I called them for estimate and they said they will stop by for an estimate but never showed up. I called them and left a messaged to asked what happened. They returned my called to rescheduled the estimate. They came out promptly the second time around. Then we set a date for the work but they called a day in advance to rescheduled again. But hey, at least they called. They did came out after the first rescheduled and did great work. Even though were were hiccups but I would still get their service if I need them again.

They were quick and very professional. They came on time and did what they said they were going to do — clean up was also great. I would recommend this company to anyone that wants an excellent job done.

There is not one thing that is negative about this company. I sent quite a few tree services emails through Unilocal explaining my needs and he was the only one that got back with me. They removed 3 palm trees and trimmed up 2 of my Japanese Maples that I had recently purchased beautifully! They came in — did the job — removed the stumps and oh my goodness — did they REALLY do that? They left the area better than they found it! The entire team was great. They are polite, helpful, and apparently, efficient as the task was completed in under an hour. Seriously? Yes! ~ An hour! The space was tight, the tree was right next to a retaining wall that I recently had built, they drilled out the stump with no damage, I’m not even sure how they did that.
I completely recommend them. I’ve already asked if he’d come back next year to trim up the trees to keep them growing beautifully and to keep my hands off them so I don’t screw them up.
Oh — and the price?! When he gave me the price I asked him to do the job right then. WOW! OK — you’re hired! Alas, I had to wait 2 days to experience the joy of having those trees removed… but it was worth it.

We are as pleased today with the level of care and service as we were first day we met with Jess and that must be well over 10 years ago. It takes a long time for our trees to grow into their potential. It is so very important to have a good team watching out for them.

My husband and I wanted an estimate for tree removal and trimming. The owner Jess was responsive, on time, and professional. He also gave us some great ideas for the future of our yard. Thank you General Tree Service!

They did an excellent job. 3 men and Owner Jess showed up on time, worked efficiently and professionally, answered all my questions regarding the Trees, hauled away all debris, and left my yard better than they found it. I will be seeing them again (in a few years) when my trees need pruning/​trimming again. An Outstanding company.

Not sure how or why some of the others gave them a low rating, but in our book, they were tops!
From our first conversation I knew that I would give the bid to Jess. He was professional, prompt and asked the right questions. So when I finally got the San Jose permit to have 2 trees removed from the front (sidewalk), I called Jess and he said that his team would be over that week!!! He fully explained the procedures that PG&E and city services would do for marking potential underground pipes and wires, too. His team was thorough and took extra care to protect my picket fence from falling limbs and when the job was over… cleaned up!
Since you are reading this, you will want to know what sets him apart from the other 4 quotes we received… yes? Jess was considerate, thoughtful, provided very competitive pricing and on top of that, offered to come back if there was further action needed. He understands what the residential customer wants and we were very fortunate to find his team.

These guys were not only on time (that rarely happens today) but did way more than I asked. My yard ;not just the trees) looks awesome! I would highly recommend their service.

Jesse trimmed the trees for my rental in Santa Clara. I’m far away and there’s a tenant. He did a great job communicating with me at a distance. He uses cell phones, text, emails etc with ease and is very quick to respond via all three. He gave me the written estimate via email the same day I contacted him, and finished the job the next day. The tenant said about his work «- the property looks amazing– he went out of his way to really do a great job-​» so I’m happy. His estimate was $ 400 less than the other estimate, and included more work. Afterwards he described to me how he met my neighbor to let her know he needed to trim so of her trees that were coming onto my property. All in all, I’m very pleased with his work and will be calling him next time I need tree work done.

Jess and crew just took a Redwood Tree out of my front yard. The tree was rather large, but he and his crew removed it fast and even removed the stump with a grinder so it is no longer visible. My neighbor recommended General Tree after he had used them twice. I will use them again because they really cleaned the jobsite and did everything promised. Thanks General Tree.

They were late for over 2 hours. — got to the site 1 hour late with no apology, and then waited for another guy for about 45 minutes while he’s bringing more tools. then they took a lunch… the estimated time for work was 4 hours. These guys might have been here for 3 but actual work was for 45 minutes. Charged us $ 425 for 45 minutes.
When I mentioned that they were late for 2 hours and asked them how long it is going to take. his response was «so what? you want us to leave now?!» who talks like that to a client? I had to stand there and tell them branch by branch what to take off. when i asked to trip the long branches he started to BS me that he cant do it.
The job was not done right (and he blamed it on me), they mover heavy potted plants from one are (which if completely understandable) but putting them back into place wasn’t on their agenda… also they didn’t clean after themselves.
and on the phone he was just unprofessional, loud and aggressive.
I was never treated that way in my life…

These guys were unprofessional, rude and did a poor job.
We’re an hour late, did not apologize. Didn’t have the appropriate tools for the job. And mind you that they visit previously for an anti ate which means that they should have known what they needed… (Tarp for the pool and hot tub)
Weren’t clean, didn’t let no one know. That they are done and just left without touching base.
Moved stuff around the yard and did not put it in its place. Now I need to move it myself… (Have potted plants.)
When I called to talk to him about the issues with their work the man on the phone got extremely rude and defensive and wouldn’t take responsibility for ANY of the things mentioned above. And actually blamed me for the fact that he had to go and buy a tarp for the pool when it was mentioned previously in the first meeting!
And basically just hung up on me!
Good job guys! Keep it up with the attitude!

This is not a review of the service. They simply did not show up so it is a review of the customer service. I took a day off from work, rearranged the daycare schedule for the kids, got the yard ready for tree removal. They were supposed to come at 10. Called me at 2 to let me know they got the scheduling messed up. At 2!!! I left a message at 10:30 asking them where they were.

Jess is very responsive for all the inquiries I had during our first few calls. He went to the property the next day and gave us a fair quote.
We had two medium sized trees (citrus and mulberry) removed from the front yard and the job was done efficiently (within 3 hours), with all the tree trunk/​leaves/​fruits removed, very clean.
I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs a tree job done.

I had a very overgrown birch tree in my front yard that needed to be trimmed back. I called Jess and he was out to give me a quote within a few hours. He came in a the lowest price by far of all my other estimates and he was able to do the work the day after next. He and his partner came out and did a fantastic job and went above and beyond what I had asked them to do.

Jess Fernandez and a helper were out within an hour of the call– on Saturday morning!- to cut down and cut-​up a cracked giant liquid amber branch that was still attached to our street tree and was mostly blocking the road. They did a quick and excellent job at a fair price. We’re going to have them come back for general large and small tree pruning and shaping.
