Children’s Dental Center and Big People Too

My kids have been going here for a while and I was really please when my daughter needed some procedures done how gentle and understanding the Dr was for the younger kids however, recently my kids went in for routine procedures and the nurse that was trying to take my son who is only 4yrs old x-​rays and was so inconsiderate that he was having a hard time gagging and trying to make him hold it so she get it done and got upset with me because I would not let her continue.
I also have been trying to get a appointment for months to get my daughters cavities taken care of and they can never accommodate her school schedule and when I finally was offered a app that we can work with it was for a cleaning not her procedure and was told that they could not her treatment at this app that and her cleaning would have to be done first. Keep in mind they know that she is already working with another Dr for her braces and they have been holding up her getting them put on not getting this treatment done. Thank God my benefits go in effect in a couple days and I can take my kids to a different place!

From the few years I’ve been coming to this dentist, they DO NOT deserve any stars but unfortunately that’s not going to happen. In my head when I was younger I thought this place was the best place ever. Well for 2 facts because at the time the head doctor there was so nice & made you feel safe. The second reason, when I had braces the orthodontist, I believe his name was Dr. Bob was prob the best ortho doctor there. I was sad when he retired the year I was getting my braces taken off. Also around his retirement it seemed like a lot of the old assistants and even receptionist were leaving… then this new guy of a doctor came which made my experience there HELL! I am not going to lie, I was always on time for my appointment with this new doctor Dr. Alvarez. Every time I went I was called in right away (sometimes) and they would let me sit down on the chair where they would do the check up/​brushing for 2 freaking hours. Literally! (During this time my mom actually isn’t even paying attention because she’s watching whatever Disney movie they put on in the waiting room.) Like every time I go whether I’m late or on time they have me waiting for this dude of a doctor to come for 2 hrs. They now have new assistants which is fine but sometimes they don’t know what they’re doing. (Which scares me) I think I gave Alvarez my vibe of how much I dislike him & dislike this all because after the 100^th time of waiting for 2hrs for him, one day Dr. Huynh did my check up & she was so nice, patient & on time!!! After that check up with her I was forgiving the Children’s Dental & Big People Too for there horrible service. But that didn’t last very long because I haven’t seen Dr. Huynh in awhile now they have this new doctor which she’s seems to stuck up & she’s bit too sassy. I just wish this dental had some nice Doctors like Dr. Huynh, and Dr. Bob. Now if they these 2 doctors were still here they definitely would be getting more stars. I do not recommend coming here at all. They are all just new assistants and doctors that don’t freaking care about the patients. They honestly just want your money. They have this look in their eye that they don’t care. So, I suggest you go somewhere else that won’t make you wait 2 (fucking) hours just for a check up or even cleaning. So ridiculous Children’s Dental & Big People too!!!

Hello my name is Travis. About 2 years ago I frequented this dentist office as it was close by and relatively cheap. This was a routine cleaning and checkup procedure. I was informed I had many cavities, my goodness! So for a relatively cheap price I had gotten them filled via appointment. I got a shot in my gums which was more painful than any other dentist I had been too, and later found that it broke blood vessels which would later become an infection swelling up the left side of my jaw.
After the fillings were done I had been informed that I would be sensitive to cold for the next 2 weeks. To this day I can not chew anything cold as it will feel unbearable, this coming from a cook who gets burnt frequently I can tell you that I will flinch towards ice in a cup. I went into an orthodental surgeon to get my wisdom teeth removed and he had told me that there was signs that my fillings were leaking pus from the opposite side and that I must have went to another country for free malpracticed dental. Already a sign of a shoddy work. Not to mention that within the past month, horrifyingly enough, my fillings have been falling out leaving horrid looking gaping holes in my mouth. I can not chew anything cold. I can not go without cleaning my teeth with a toothpick to rid the crevices of any food I could chew. And in general I am afraid to leave my house because of my freakish teeth thanks to this place. If anyone heres this please. Please go to any other dentist. It is not worth you’re time, money, or effort to schedule an appointment with these butchers.

This place give you false information on cavities, my daughter does not have cavity after switching to another dental place a day after this place and she does not have cavities at all. This place just wants your money. So for 5 years in a row my daughter had false cavities, wow I am impressed of your false claims.

This is the dental place of your worst nightmares. If you go, don’t do more than a routine cleaning. Anything beyond that — do at your own risk. There’s a room with a single chair with no windows that they can close — I think that’s the one with straps. Scary!
The first time I took my child they wanted to do x rays on him and he was only 3. I refused. Afterward, I got other opinions that x rays are not necessary until 5 or 6 years old minimum.
When my son was 5 they told me he had 3 cavities and therefore needed x rays. My son doesn’t eat candy. So I was suspicious of their treatment plan which would require gas, shots and fillings.
I asked for his x rays and went to get a 2^nd opinion with my dentist who is really good (he’s well reviewed on Unilocal too). It turns out he has NO CAVITIES.
BEWARE if your child has Medi Cal because they will take all they can at the expense of your child.
The staff including the dentist lack real compassion and care for their patients.

This is our 3^rd visit here and I was skeptical at first coming here, but Dr. Huynh is great. She’s great with our little one, patient, understanding while working with kids. The facility itself needs some updating but overall the only reason why they are not getting a 5 star review from me. We’ll prolly keep coming here for our little one’s dentist needs.

I have been coming to Children’s Dental Center for 22 years! That says ALOT! I have never experienced what reviewers have described. It’s a dental office. Procedures are done that will cause pain afterward. I have never left a dental office in my 42 yrs of life without having pain. And I’ve been to dentist offices in various places of the world. The staff have always been nothing but courteous, friendly and sensitive to my children’s needs. My daughter has had teeth pulled. As soon as we’re home I give her Tylenol and she’s fine. Once she had a tooth pulled and 40 minutes later attended 3 hours of dance! Reason for the teeth being pulled is they do not loosen or fall out on their own when the perms are already out. As far as the office, modern? I don’t know about that. I know it is clean, well stocked, and has well working equipment. I haven’t seen and picks and chisels. AGAIN it’s a dental office not sure what people want. It serves its function. Painless dental visits begin with Prevention!

Our first few visits here were great. I quickly learned that it was because we were there for very simple procedures. My kids had to have a few fillings and my daughter a cap replaced. Once we got there they told me that since my daughter had some pain that they would need to pull the tooth. to make a long story short they traumatized my child and left her in alot of pain and a now damaged tooth in her head.
The following morning I took her to the emergency dentist who told me the tooth should never have been tried to be taken out because there was no reason for it. They ended up having to pull the tooth anyway because Childrens dental had damaged the area around the tooth too badly. It was clear to them that my poor child was scared to death due to her previous days ordeal.
NEVEr leave your kids with these people and NEVER let them go back alone for anything other than a cleaning.

Initially I took my children here from the age of 4, around 2006, until a year ago because the ex didn’t want to use anesthesia on the children. It all started because they used this method called a papoose swaddle in place of using anesthesia. All was fine until they got a little older and started fearing the dentist. I went back with them once because normally they wouldn’t let the parents go back. I heard a child in the «papoose» room screaming and crying at the top of their lungs from behind the closed door. All the kids sitting down watching TV kept looking at the door nervously. Then cavities started to show up and the dentists did such a fast job with the drilling and filling that it scared my children and then within 6 months the tooth abscessed, then another abscessed and then another on a different child. Each one had a filling done at that office and had to be pulled. These children brush and floss every night. There were several different dentists and technicians that worked there, so I never knew who was going to work on the kids. After seeing the pattern of fillings and abscessed teeth, we left and found another. The big screen TV, nice children pictures on the wall mean nothing. It’s the quality and care that is most important, and I’m glad we got out of there before the adult teeth were worked on.

I’m only giving this a one star for their big flat screen.
I’ve taken my son here once & we’re not coming back if this was the last dental office on the face of the earth.
The staff, including the dentist lacks real compassion & patience.
They just wanted my $ and really didn’t care about my son.
I really should’ve checked the Unilocal reviews before I went to this place!!!

I give it 5 star just for still accepting medical. My old place no longer accepts it.

I have to update my review for this dental center after having a wonderful experience here with Dr. Huynh. She did a great job cleaning my teeth and explaining the situation and offered suggestions. She was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly.
Despite their layout, the equipment here was modern, and the staff is always friendly. I definitely recommend coming here.

They treated my son once, but I don’t think there will be a second time. The main problem in my mind is the atmosphere is one of ‘get the kids through here, and out the door’ — which translates into a lack of real compassion. In a place as traumatic as a dentist office, this is something young kids really need.
I saw the assistants ‘barking’ at young kids, and practically terrifying them into submission. The receptionist was also pretty curt and unhelpful when I had questions.
Hopefully the dentists would set a better tone and expectations for their staff to exhibit such kindness and friendliness, but I sure didn’t see it in my visits, I’m sad to say.
I know they treat kids on state plans here, and the income may not be as high as some practices, so I don’t really have complaints about things being a little old or dingy — if only there was more kindness and frienliness!

The actual dental service is decent, but I had to switch dentists after I was told that appts. were not scheduled beyond 2PM, even though they close around 5! The office staff also rounds up their denti-​cal patients’ appointments in the morning, on certain days. When I had denti-​cal, I had to always come in to work after lunch just to adhere to their scheduling shenanigans. Both of these restrictions were pretty annoying. The first instance, I already had private insurance, mind you but the last one was downright discriminatory to say the least («we wouldn’t want to reveal our ‘ghetto’ patients to anyone, that just wouldn’t fly with our noble, privately-​insured folk»). They can go somewhere with their shady administrative operations.

This is where i take my son and its soo cool because they TOTALLY cater to kids.
