Just moved to San Jose and found this pet food store that I am so happy with! All the staff here are friendly and extremely Knowledgeable!
The prices for dog food and their dog toys a are very reasonable, they don’t triple their prices like Petco does. Every week I come here to buy my lab a new toy and few bully sticks because it is so much cheaper here then Petco or pet food express! The price for the bully sticks are one for $ 5 here rather than one for $ 13 at Petco! The flea medicines are also cheaper here lets just say everything in this store is very reasonable priced and I will continue to refer everyone I know to come here for their great deals on priced items and especially for their great customer service staff here!

They have a great selection of quality dog and cat food. We found something our finicky cat will eat that the vet recommended. A bit pricey but it’s good for her. I tell her this every time I feed the blasted thing
The staff at this store are very friendly and helpful. They really know their products and a lot about animals. They listen to your questions and make informed suggestions. You can tell they enjoy what they are doing.
Of course they have a lot more than animal food and they have things for a ton of other animals like Rabbits, hamsters. Chickens. They were selling chicken coops today.
You can get some things cheaper elsewhere but you won’t get better customer service than you do here.

I always preferred to shop at small local shops and these guys are great! They have a wonderful selection of products for all different kinds of pets even my turtle, cat, dog, and my horse. They’re always friendly and happy to order anything you can’t get.

Petco and PetSmart will never close places like An-​Jan, because An-Jan’s staff and selection have always been great. I enjoy every time I come here.

So I went to An-​Jan today to get my dogs rabies shot… When I walked in I was kind of shopping around, all of a sudden I hear a commotion, who I thought was an upset customer because his dog had an accident… Turns out it was a worker, pissed off because a customers dog went to the bathroom… He was complaining «that’s why I take my dog out to shit before going into stores» and then proceeded to the customer to tell her she doesn’t need to watch him clean up dog shit and that he knows how to do it… She seemed apologetic until he started acting like a dick… You work in a pet store that welcomes pets… Accidents happen… I can’t say «hey spot do you need to take a dump before we walk in here?» Get a different job if you hate it so much… Shit happens.
I have this a two star because the vet staff there was friendly… I also didn’t appreciate the dick head worker and the cashier decided to make fun of the woman or her daughter after the fact, grow up.

Lovely staff? No way! The owner/​manager here is a horrible woman who seems to be actually hostile to customers. The other staff might be very nice but they can’t carry the whole load and if the owner or manager is bad it’s a pretty hopeless situation. I like to shop locally, but if this was the only alternative I would give it up and do all my shopping online. Thankfully, there are many local alternatives for pet supplies, and ALL of them are better than this shop.

Walked in to buy some material for bugs, the lady knew exactly what I was talking about and told me how to use it properly. Great, fast customer service.

I endorse the smaller pet stores that are family owned and operated and ones that don’t sell animals. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years. The longtime employees here are nice and helpful. I enjoy talking to Patty because she really knows the products and is very knowledgeable about animals.

This is my favorite shop to purchase food, litter, for my lovely kitten.
Prices here are really cheap though the variety of products are not as much as other super stores out there.
One thing you will notice in this store is their lovely staff. You dont need to worry about anything they are so patient and help you find the right choice.
Even you can take your pet inside. it is a pet friendly store!

This is a small non big chained pet store. I love the welcoming acceptance of the smaller non commercial pet stores such as this one as I found the staff to be very welcoming when I arrived with my sisters and ‘The Beautiful One’. Mamba was so excited she entered huffing and pulling on her leash.
Immediately the young man at the checkout stand asked, «what type of dog is that?» My response, «she a pitbull but not the Michael Vic fighting type.» Immediately «The Beautiful One» was offered a treat by hand, which she kindly declined after a quick sniff. She was too excited she wanted to get to huffin, sniffin, pullin and hot dog shoppin.
I went here to have my dogs ‘diva nails’ trimmed by Monica from Silver-​mornings travel pet grooming services (dog/​cat nail trimming). Monica is here on Saturdays from 10:00 — 11:30 am on Saturday mornings. She setups up in the back of the store.
After ‘Mamba’ had her ‘diva nails’ trimmed I allowed her to do her own shopping, which consists of her sniffing around and looking up and down the aisles as she loves to do when we visit pet stores.
As we shopped around I was surprised not to find ‘Baby’s’ type of dog food, which is Avoderm, so of course I was doubly surprised not to find her Avoderm dog biscuits either. Oh well, I guess since this is a small what appears to be a family own store I’ll give them a break on that.
I did find the store somewhat small and cramped. I didn’t really check out the prices because we were in somewhat of a time crunch with other things we were doing and other places we needed to be.
Will I be back? Well, I just think I will very well make this the place to have ‘Shiney’s’ ‘diva nails’ trimmed on a Saturday instead of midday on a Friday in Palo Alto. We’ll see.

This is a great little store. I am fortunately within walking distance so my pup «Lady» and I jot over for crickets and a treat for my her to carry home. It is one of our favorite routines. They carry a nice selection of healthy dog foods at very competitive prices and their crickets are significantly cheaper (and larger) than any you can find at corporate stores. I love coming in because with the money I save on crickets, I feel like I can routinely spend it on treats for my dog so here’s 5 stars from «Lady»!

I recently moved to San Jose and wasn’t sure where to go. I tried three different pet supply stores before I found An-​Jan. I was so happy to see that they stocked all my favorite chewies for my puppy and had a great selection of food at a great price.
I love the little bows they sell up at the front counter too. My dog is short hair but I bought a handful of bows for my dad’s dog and she looks adorable.
The staff are so friendly too, it’s like shopping with your friends.

Awesome staff, very friendly and convienient. Prices are beyond cheap. What more can I say?

My most recent experience here, I feel, merits a review.
I usually run to this store as they are close to my residence and when I can’t find something at the chain pet stores. I have finches that I like to spoil so I usually run to this store when I can’t find what I need. They have a pretty good sized bird section, plenty of toys, perches and cage stuff. The employees here usually seem slightly apathetic whenever I am in there.
I purchased a small cage at the Santa Teresa/​Bernal location to house my newest bird, Sophie while my little Lulu gets adjusted to having a new friend. While I was in this store on Branham I noticed a bigger cage that would be good for a «hospital» when one of my girls gets sick. As the «Dude» was ringing up my purchased I asked him «If I purchased something at the other store would I be able to exchange it for something you have here? I see a cage that I would like». «Yeah, sure, no prob» said Dude.
I return to the store with the smaller cage that has been thoroughly cleaned to do the exchange. The lady cashier tells me I forgot the perch that went inside but congratulated me on having my receipt. Without the perch she could not DO THE EXCHANGE. By now Lulu is not well in her own cage and I need to isolate her so for the sake of time I grab the larger cage, purchase it and tell the cashier I will return with the smaller cage and the perch to return it.
Later that evening I return along with the perch inside of the smaller cage and encounter the familiar cashier «Comic Book Guy» (I’m calling him this because he looks just like that character from The Simpsons.). CBG tells me that is not store policy to return cages and even showed it to me on the receipt. I told him when I was in earlier «Dude» told me it would not be a problem and the other female cashier started to do the transaction. After checking with his manager, CBG tells me it’s OK then proceeds to lecture me about store policy. I then inform him that he needs to communicate with his staff so that they are all on the same page because this is not what I have experienced with the two previous employees. He demands to know who I spoke with who told him it was OK. I told him I did not know but described «Dude». He then continues on his tirade about store policy and how he was going to make a point to contact the South SJ location and let them know what the bottom of the receipt says. I also mentioned to him that not for nothing but when I purchased the larger cage it had hamster grass on the bottom underneath the cardboard insert and i had to clean it thoroughly. He tells me «this is why we do not allow cage returns». I told him the store should clean their cages before the re-​sell them. He then silently hands me my receipt and my card. Now I will happily drive across town to the South SJ location as I would not want to go back to this one.

This place has very good pet supplies at a fair price. You will find a unique selection of goods that you don’t see at your usual local pet shop. Sign up for their Birthday program and you will receive a 20% off coupon in the mail on your pet’s birthday to use in their store. I purchased a really nice cat tree for my cat about 4 years ago and it has held up very nicely.

You need food for your dog, cat, FERRET… Go to An-Jan’s. I buy crickets and cricket food from them mostly and ferret food occasionally. When they don’t have something for your needs, they will refer you or help you obtain it. They even offer to special order it on your behalf.
I’m one of a few customers that they have that actually looks for ferret products. So they don’t have a lot of ferret products. Sometime, I HAVE to go to the other store.

The Internet and online shopping is a lifesaver for a person like me and my hectic schedule, so I don’t frequent the stores much. However, the new pup loves the people here. She gets so excited and gives everyone at least three rounds of hugs and kisses, and the staff think she’s hilarious. They all seem to really like animals, so maybe it’s a general lack of interest in their (potentially boring) job that others are noting. As far as my experience goes, in the past decade no one has ever been rude! My questions are always answered quickly and with recommendations, including sample bags of dog food.
This particular location is a bit on the small side, but they carry pretty much everything you might need and there is ample parking.

Recently I was adopted by a stray cat, and by the time she was tame enough to catch she was massively pregnant (ie, too late to abort) and she gifted me with four kittens.
An Jan has been a LIFESAVER when it comes to information on healthy foods (with all the pet food scares lately, I had A LOT of questions for them), and has been a great source for foods, toys, and encouragement when it comes to raising four kittens from, literally, the day they were born.
So while not the greatest place if you’re a bird person, I am excessively grateful for their help and knowledge when it comes to cats.
If only they could magically tell me of wonderful homes for the two kittens I still have to place …

This location is small and cramped with very spotty service. Since it was the closest location to our house, that was the first one that we visited after we adopted our first pooch a little over a year ago.
So, we were looking for several basic necessities for him like a leash, bowls, toys and so on. We asked for help and literally got laughed away by the store staffs. We eventually managed to find a few things that we liked by ourselves without their helps at all. So, that was the first and the last time we visited this store location.
So, nowadays, we go to mainly two other locations, instead — one on Monterey Hwy in San Jose, and the other on DeAnza Blvd in Cupertino, with our preference to the one on Monterey Hwy, where the staffs are much more friendly and helpful, not to mention the store space is much larger.

This An-​Jans is large and clean. An-​Jans always has a great variety of holistic organic pet foods, and is one of the only places in the bay area to sell Innova (which is what my dog eats). I am on their customer list, so I think I get a discount sometime in the future – I forget what it is.
Excellent service, and all the toys my dog could want. The customer list is awesome – somehow I earned $ 10 off! They are also liberal with samples especially when you are inquiring about other types of foods to try.
