My partner and my parents had been their customers for years…
First time, I took my van there to check out why it was making lot of noises when driving at low speeds. I suspected that the ball beads were bad, Dave took a test drive and told me that I need a set of new tires because those 4 tires were craps EVEN had plenty threads left. Dave didn’t EVEN tried to rip me off with ball bead job and charged me $ 25 for the labor time.
Went to get a new tires, I’m happy as a happy clam!

Dave and his employees are very good mechanics and honest. I’ve been taking my care to them for about 3 years and have been very happy. Update ¹⁰⁄₂₀₁₄. I hear Dave is retiring. It would be fun to do a pot luck or something like that for him! He has helped us all so much over the years.

This place was recommended to me and now I recommend him to friends. Very trustworthy place. My wife and I only go here for services and any other repair.

I wholeheartedly endorse Dave and second what everyone else has said. He is friendly, fast, and most importantly honest. He goes above and beyond and his service matches his reputation.

Dave and the crew are the most HONEST mechanics in town! My father found A&A over 20 years ago and the whole family has used them for years. My father is no longer alive, but Dave still knows us by name and always works to help us. I know nothing about cars but Dave is patient and understanding and I can trust him not to try to do work that doesn’t need to be done on my car.
I cannot imagine ever going to a different mechanic and I tell everyone I know about Dave!

Dave, the owner, is TREMENDOUS!!! He gave me the low down on what my car needed, both now and in the future. He also knew what the quote would be for future work without the hemming and hawing that I’ve experienced in the past. My car was repaired in 24 hours and the cost matched the estimate!
I am taking my car back for new belts in a few months! This place is great!!!

HONEST! That is really all you need to know. My car failed a smog test, I called Dave, who was so nice on the phone and he told me to come in to have it checked out. I was in and out the door in less than 40 minutes and for $ 20!!! he fixed a leaky tube. My car is running great and has passed her smog test!
This place is super clean and Dave and his co-​workers are super clean and nice too — no grease monkeys. I would trust this guy with any car of mine and will return to him again and again for service. Such a great experience.

I’ve been taking vehicles to Dave Rodrigues at A & A Auto Service for nearly 20 years. Except for oil changes and new tires, I wouldn’t even think about going somewhere else. We may be moving up to the East Bay soon, and I think I’ll still bring my vehicles to Dave.
I am an engineer, but not a car guy and not especially knowledgeable about cars. I completely trust Dave to give it to me straight regarding what needs to or should be fixed, including the options that are in MY best interest. Dave is very patient in taking the time to explain what’s wrong and what should be done. I doubt he’s the cheapest around (though I haven’t comparison-​shopped since, probably, I first decided to give his shop a try), but the peace of mind that comes in dealing with him is absolutely worth it. Dave’s a genuinely nice, soft-​spoken guy, who also seems to know his stuff (as best I can discern, not being a car guy and all). I really can’t recommend him highly enough.

Took two vehicles to A&A for service recently. Great work, on time, great communication.
I hate getting cars fixed, but this place at least makes it easy.
2013 updates —
1. My son was looking for a used car. We took several to Dave for inspection. Great service, thoughtful advice.
2. We had an intermittent electrical problem with the A/​C fan on a Honda Civic. Unfortunately, every time we took it in, it would work fine (once it «fixed itself» as we pulled into the A&A parking lot after not working for several days). Dave was great and patiently checked things. He could have just started replacing all the things that could have caused the problem (at a cost of several hundred dollars just in parts) but he offered to tell us where to «whack it» next time it went out to help isolate the problem. It went out the next week, my wife whacked it (came back on), so Dave fixed it in a few minutes for way less than a hundred dollars.

I decided to try this shop based on high marks in BAY AREA CHECKBOOK magazine (
). I like to follow a standard procedure when it’s time for scheduled maintenance: go to AAA to get my car inspected, and then take it to a shop to get things fixed. That way, I have an unbiased recommendation on what actually needs fixing.
The good news is that the shop has never tried to sell me any big repairs that AAA didn’t already suggest. In fact, they’ve even told me when I could probably afford to wait on some of the AAA reported items. I was impressed that they would forgo the extra income and put the customer first.
The bad news, as mentioned in other reviews, is that they are pretty busy. It is usually a day or two, at least, before they can start work. And they are not good about calling to let you know when the work is done; I end up calling them to find out if the car is ready. But that’s a small price to pay for an honest, reliable mechanic.

This place is awesome. altho ive heard some of the younger mechanics make disparaging comments about customers, the owner is one of the most upstanding citizens you’ll ever meet. he will recommend against pricey services he considers unnecessary. he really goes out of his way to make sure that you are happy. he also fixes up bikes for poor kids in his spare time. definitely a mechanic that you can trust.

Well, after a few weeks of my car making a horrible scraping metal noise every time I applied my brakes, I decided perhaps it was time to go and see a mechanic.
My coworker highly recommended Dave (I believe he is the owner) of A&A Auto Service.
Once Dave looked at my car, he called me and spoke to me like I was a real person! He took the time to explain to me all of the issues with my car and discussed different price and repair options.
For example, I have been trying to ignore my «service engine soon» light for the past year. Dave checked the problem and found out that I need a new computer in my car. However, since it is not extremely urgent and would cost $ 500 for parts and labor, he said it would be ok if I just had the brakes repaired this time. I was thankful that he didn’t try to scare me out of the extra $ 500.
I was very pleased when I picked up my car. Dave fixed my brakes and even fixed a small leak in my tire (another thing that I was trying to ignore), and it cost a little less than his estimate, because he fixed the brakes faster than estimated!
The only thing to be aware of is that this is a small auto shop, so you may have to wait a week or so to get an appointment, if they are backed up.
Oh, and I am pretty sure that they work on all kinds of cars, except European cars.
I will definitely go here again if… ok …when something else happens to my car.
