Great Chinese herbalist.
I’ve been coming to Dr Ng for years. Usually I come here to remedy general flu treatment and sometimes to alleviate my skin inflammation from psoriasis.
Without discounting the possibility of a placebo effect, I’ve noticed fairly quick results from drinking the herb treatment here. I like the fact that unlike western meds, there are no drowsy effects and prices are fairly reasonable. Consultation fees are around $ 15. A packet of herbs may cost around $ 10, give or take depending on ingredients used. Typically the Dr might prescribe 3 packets, so one might expect to pay around $ 50 or so.
The service is good overall. The staff do seem English friendly, although I can’t say if it’s to the extent where more subtle details in communication might be lost. As a semi fluent speaker of Cantonese, I have no issue at all. I have heard the Dr and staff communicate in Mandarin well so I doubt that would be problematic either.
Do make sure to call and make sure if the Dr is working before stopping by. Even though the business, I recall he might not be there on Thursdays or maybe another day of the week.
Parking is typically hassle free. Location is convenient given its 5 mins drive from the closest freeway off ramp, San Gabriel off the 10 fwy in the San Gabriel valley.
Flavor of your typical chinese medicine is an aquired taste. Expect it to be predominately bitter, earthy and lingering. There’s almost always an almost pleasant complexity given mixture of herbs used. What varies are undertones of sweet, sour, and sometimes smokey qualities in flavor. Consistency is like thick and gravy like. Similar to that of motor oil. Temperature is often piping hot.
I find in order to best endure drinking this, it’s best to wait till its warm enough so that you can down it as quick as possible. Wash it down with a bit of water unless you have a more effective palate cleanser. Listerene works great for me.

Well … I happened to have caught a sinus infection (I couldn’t even talk) and I decided to give an alternative medicine (traditional Chinese medicine) a try this time.
No appointment is needed — you just walk directly into Dr. Ong’s office (a separate office located behind the front ginseng shop). $ 15 per consultation /​visit. After the consultation, you take your Chinese herbal prescription and give it to the staff at front counter (you’ll be paying for the herbal prescription separately). I paid $ 15 for two bags of herbs (one bag = two servings).
Always remember some of taboos when you are consuming these bags of Chinese herbal medicines:
* I believe you are not supposed to consume ice, chili (anything spicy), white radish, celery, and water spinach (kong xin cai)
* Import message: don’t just grab bags of herbal medicine and leave … ALWAYS ask about things you can or cannot eat
* Apparently you are not supposed to brew these herbs using pressure cookers and there are specialized Chinese herbal medicine cookers for the solo purpose of brewing Chinese herbs (

* Generally speaking, add 3 cups of water into Chinese herbal medicine cooker will yield 1 serving of Chinese herbal soup
* Haw flower is used to make your Chinese herbal soup tastes less bitter
I can’t say the Chinese traditional medicine is the magical cure-​it-​all solution, but it is something worth a try if you are adventurous enough.

I’ve been to Dr Ng 3 times in a period of 2 weeks due to arthritis I developed randomly 3 months ago. I’ve been going to a rheumatologist who has prescribed a whole lot of drugs but haven’t gotten better. Since I’ve seen Dr Ng, I noticed immediately that I slept so good after drinking the prescribed herbal tea although pain was still there. Second set of prescription I had a virus from my kids, the day after drinking the meds I felt better and was able to go to work. Then, miraculously I started to wake up pain free! So now on to the third prescription, I am continuously waking up pain free and feeling healthier! I see that the herbal tea is healing me naturally. One drawback is that it seems expensive at first-​but shoot I think it’s worth every dime. $ 200 later I feel great! Eastern & western together seems to be working out great. Just make sure to wait 2 hours after taking your western meds to drink the herbal tea. About the taste, hold your breathe and down it like you’re downing a beer! it gets easier! Also, he speaks English pretty well!

I think is too expensive. It cost $ 90 for five days medicine and $ 50 for the pot to cook the medicine and $ 13 for the doctor. As I was describing my issues he is writing the medicine. I think there might be misunderstanding. I am afraid too eat the medicine.

Dr Ong understands southerners body type. You won’t feel too hot or dry after taking his medicines. He cures hormones irregularities to stop my hair from thinning. It took roughly a month. He also gives you tips on how to live well. Also have a smile on his face.

With the help of Dr. Ong, he helped my boyfriend and I recover from a recent bout of the flu. Especially with my boyfriend, who seems to have a stronger constitution than yours truly, Dr. Ong’s herbal medicine prescription got him up and back to work in just two days. I took a bit longer (4 – 5 days). Unlike Western meds, like Theraflu or Sudafed, there’s no speediness and a sapping of your system. Only supportive elements to help balance out any deficiencies or weaknesses in your constitution.
Seriously, the moment my boyfriend and I felt the slightest flu symptoms, we drove straight over to Wing Hip Fung, and saw Dr. Ong immediately. Why wait when you can nip things in the bud? Two thumbs up!
